Best western was amazing for two weary travelers.. we came in late approximately 10:30 PM and was met with a happy smiling face a quick check in with a reasonable price, the room was, very comfortable it smelt clean the water pressure was amazing in the shower. They had blow dryers tissues, coffee all in the room with the refrigerator that was clean. Every single thing was clean., the bed was very comfortable... the other hotels we stopped along the way on our road trip were at best OK but when we woke up and had eggs sausage potatoes, waffles, cereal, yogurt, fruit toppings, a clean area to eat our breakfast gluten-free options. making one less stop on our road trip from Ohio that would cost us a fortune for breakfast was a happy surprise. it was easy check out as well. the next time we come this way the best Western in at this location in Ohio will be where we are staying... read more

Avoid Best Western Mt. Gilead - Family Turned Away at 2am, Forced to Sleep in Parking Lot Booked a room with 2 beds last-minute (11:50pm) through Hotels.com for a late arrival while driving as the only adult/parent with my four young kids (ages 7-12) from Nashville. Arrived exhausted at 2am. Front desk refused us the room, citing occupancy limits. Solo parent with small children -- splitting rooms wasn't safe or realistic. We had no choice but to sleep in their parking lot which the front desk manager knew and let happen. I understand policies exist and even understand why we were ultimately turned away. What I don't understand is the complete lack of flexibility, compassion, or basic problem-solving for a family in a tough spot at 2 in the morning. No alternatives offered (despite what they might say happened as no additional room or discount was available or offered as an alternative option). No goodwill. Just "policy." Worse, the hotel and corporate continue to refuse any refund even though we received nothing for the booking. Paid for a room we were denied and no alternative options were available or offered. We booked at 11:50pm same night so we know we didn't displace or keep anyone else from booking this room. Best Western claims to cater to travelers and families -- this experience proves otherwise. Cold, rigid, and indifferent when it mattered most. This seems to be the common review when it comes to people's interactions with this staff and management. Hospitality is not just about enforcing policies. It is also about how guests are treated when something goes wrong. In this situation, the management showed no compassion, judgment, or willingness to help a family in a difficult position. I would not recommend this property to families or anyone arriving late at night. I hope people read these reviews and warnings and don't make the same mistake I made. read more

The general manager is rude, argumentative, and unpleasant. The hotel has no elevator, the rooms smell musty, and the free breakfast is not worth the price--coffee is unpalatable, and warmer eggs and bacon looked greasy and unfit for human consumption. When we arrived, the manager tried to charge us for early check-in (20 minutes prior to normal check-in!). Then we learned we were double billed for the room, b/c my wife booked prior to me. The manager said it was "your problem," and refused to address my issue, preferring to yell at me for my bad review on Google. Don't waste your time. If I could give them zero stars I would! I was there on a business trip with my husband and my my service dog. I was staying for 4 days and I paid them an extra $40 a night for the better room which was not better at all by the way, the shower was so small I could barely turn around in it! The next morning they seen my dog for the first time and I'm guessing they didn't understand when I told them about him, there was quite a language barrier there, foreign foke. So they said I lied about the dog and kicked us out the first night which was fine cause they were rude from the start with me. What wasn't fine is that they went ahead and took it upon themself to charge my card $160 for all 4 nights and plus they kept my $150 cash that I gave them for the damage deposit! How can they get by with that!? Only thing I can think to do is call the better business burro on them and hopefully they can help me! The hotel that we went to after they booted us out was GREAT however tho!! It was La Quinta in Mansfield! They were so polite and friendly! That whole ordeal was a blessing in disguise to be honest! Wow, tremendous comfort and quiet (even though very close to interstate). Kuerig coffee in the room; great climate control; soft sheets, comfortable bed. Wifi fast and reliable. Very few patrons -- just two cars in the lot; the check-in person had stepped away ('who can blame him?') but came in from outside as soon as I arrived. I'd been staying in a lot of $60 hotels so maybe that's why a $120 hotel felt so comfortable. One of the quietest situations close to an interstate that I've experienced. read more

An older facility, but very well maintained and clean. Rooms smelled fresh, I'm the type that looks for dust in the corners, and there was none. Breakfast was serve yourself with generous choices. We were camping nearby and after hours of rain and tornado warnings we decided to go to a hotel. They were able to get us in last minute for a reasonable rate and the hotel is very clean. I think it must be pretty new. Complimentary Breakfast in the morning was perfect though it does end a little early (9am). read more

We stayed here 2 nights, and although it's a very basic hotel, it was surprisingly clean. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We decided to cancel our last 2 nights because we needed to be closer to the college, and they cancelled without any hassle. Breakfast was just OK, but they do their best to make sure everything is full/stocked. I can't say that I'd stay here again just because I like my hotels a little fancier (haha), but I don't have any reason to discourage you from staying here. read more

Beds are comfortable, the shower water pressure is wonderful, and the room has Direct TV, a fridge, and a microwave. However, the air conditioner is extremely loud and takes a long time to cool the room. And the breakfast is nothing to get excited over: there's only three small tables in the breakfast area and the food isn't good. We ended up going out for breakfast 2/3 nights we stayed. read more

Travelers BEWARE!!! Absolutely the WORST experience I've ever had at a hotel!!! I booked the room through Hotels.com, and paid-in-full before arriving. When we got there, the place looked deserted...no one at the front desk...there was a handmade sign taped to the plexiglass saying the clerk had stepped away. After several minutes, a young man came from the back (seemingly his living quarters), rubbing his eyes, and speaking VERY POOR English. After spending over ten minutes giving him all my information OVER & OVER, including DL, and car information, he informed me he was changing my card $100 for "incidentals". This hotel has no restaurant, no snack stand, or mini bars, and when I inquired what "incidentals" I could possibly run up to $100, he grew agitated, telling me they'd had HORRIBLE (his word) guests who'd ruined it for everyone else, with some guests even bringing SNAKES into the hotel!!! With signs posted all over check-in regarding their credit card hold taking up to 14 days before funds were released, and hearing all the reasons he justified for this charge, I became EXTREMELY uncomfortable, and couldn't wait to get out of there...no way was I staying! He clearly didn't need the card for incidentals, but as a deposit for damages! I do wonder how many guests get their money back...it certainly comes across as a scam! Looks like my pre-paid room charge is lost, but you couldn't PAY ME to stay at THIS DUMP! I travelled another 10 minutes, and checked into a CLEAN Comfort Inn with no problems! We recently spent the night here because it was pretty much the only choice in the area where we needed to be. The person who checked us in was either in need of a lot more training or was just bad at his job. Fortunately, after we finally got checked in, the experience improved. The room was big and clean, DirectTV, and a nice pool. Totally slipped my mind that they had breakfast, and we missed it. We were planning to stop at McDonald's on our way out, but the lady at the front desk said she kept breakfast open longer because of many late check-ins the night before. She even when and got fresh items for us. We were surprised at the options: 4 cereals (one gluten free), coffees, juices, bagels, cinnamon rolls, waffles with tons of toppings, biscuits, eggs, sausage, well.. you get the idea. If we're in the area we will definitely stay here again. read more

The only place to stay out of all the motels around! Have stayed here many times and keep coming back. This past visit was for a trip to see family and we couldn't have had a better time! Front desk staff was fantastic, very friendly, made us feel like family. We ended up extending our stay for a couple of days and they couldn't have been more courteous. Breakfast was great, even though it was supposed to end at 9am, they stayed open later. (Best orange juice and pastries around.) House cleaning was good also, had no problems at all. The room was beyond great! Quiet, 4 star clean, and the beds were to die for! Had family over for pizza and games with no trouble. I know most places frown on it, but when I let the front desk know ahead of time they couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay again, and again!! Decent hotel, just not worth the $100/night price tag. I'll just give a list of pro and cons. Hopefully it helps! Pros: -Nice and soft bed. -Clean room. -Clean bathroom. -Clean lobby. Cons: -No room fridge. -No room microwave. -The air conditioner barely pushed air. -Had to argue with the desk help for a few towels. -They only put us in for a night, while we paid for two nights. Had to go back down stairs to figure out why our key cards didn't work. -Breakfast bar was less than sub-par. The waffles were the highlight, proteins were disappointing. -Housekeeping took a laundry bag we did not want them to take. Charged us $18 to ship it to our house, although not our mistake. -90 degrees outside and the pool was not filled. Could still be a bit early in May, but they advertised it to us before booking. -And this may be nit-picking, but the ice machine was garbage. Took about 4 minutes to fill up the room bucket. Hope this helps! We will not be staying here again, as there are much nicer rooms for that price. read more

While traveling from Oklahoma to New Hampshire on a move, we stayed at the Best Western in Mt. Gilead. For $90 with AAA, the single room we got, while a bit on the small side, was spotless, well lit, and free of any noticeable allergens (both of are highly sensitive to cigarette smoke, mold and dust and consequently have a hard time with hotels). Everything worked properly, including a very good wifi connection, and the beds were PHENOMENAL. It has literally been years since I slept so well. My wife prefers a super firm mattress, and I prefer something a little more forgiving, but this thing pleased both of us...it was a perfect compromise. The continental breakfast was also WAY above par, and I've stayed in many hotels and tried many free breakfasts. So if you're looking for a good night's sleep and a good breakfast...this place is highly recommended. read more

My son and I rendezvoused at this hotel; he, on the way to Upstate NY and me on the way to a reunion outside Cincinnati. While it is certainly off the beaten track, the place was clean, the price very reasonable and the staff and management exceptionally kind and accommodating. There was a family style restaurant within walking distance and a Mexican restaurant just seven miles and a scenic drive away. If you enjoy rural surroundings and a clean and quiet place to rest your head, I highly recommend this little oasis. read more

It's not fancy but it's a really nice value. As stated in another review, the beds are excellent. The staff was helpful, and it's conveniently located if you're north of Columbus, OH. Housekeeping does a good job, and my room was a standard size for two queen beds. The wireless internet was easy to use, and included with the room charge. The quantity of tv channels was large, with many movie channels available. Possibly the most channels I've ever seen in a hotel, so you'll have plenty of channel choices if you're in the room for a while. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice my stay turned out. I definitely recommend the hotel if you're an experienced traveler. read more

I realize it might sound like I am a complainer, but I am not. But when we discovered BEDBUG bites all over us the hotel did nothing to apologize! We noticed them on the way home. We called to alert them and to ask for a refund. At first they agreed to refund us and then the GM declined the request. He insisted that we didn't get it from them (the only hotel we stayed at) and dismissed our concern, saying that since we waited two days to call them, it wasn't them. I pointed out that the bites slowly became apparent at the end of the first day.(BTW the American Academy of Dermatology states that the welting can take a couple of days to appear). Over those two days, we consulted a physician and an entomologist who is an expert on bed bugs. We wanted to make sure that is what it was before calling the hotel. Finally, I called corporate and they said they would get back to me in two weeks. After a month they still hadn't called so I called them.They said "sorry, you can only get a refund from the hotel itself". I used to be a loyal customer of BW.
