Located on busy Via Magnagrecia in the San Giovanni district of Rome, our travel agency booked us for 2 nights at the Best Western Hotel Piccadilly in September for the last leg of our Italy trip. It was a little out of the historic center and a good walking distance to the nearest metro station on the A line. It is here where we were able to see and feel the normal day-to-day Romans, perfect for restaurants and shopping at a reasonable price.
However, my partner, our friends, family member, and I didn't agree to the rating of 4 stars. The front desk, situated up on the 3rd floor, required an elevator or stairs after arriving from a long day on a high-speed train with heavy luggage, deemed unacceptable. Staff spoke English well and were polite and welcoming.
Just like most elevators in Europe, they are quite small--enough to fit 3-4 passengers sans luggage. The rooms were well maintained and included all the hygiene amenities. The air conditioner was adequate but slow, with no instructions on how to use it.
The complimentary breakfast was a traditional Italian-style one with lots of bread, pastries, fruit, and meat. It is mostly full service, and the hosts were amazing.
We wouldn't recommend it for first-time travelers to Rome because the main attractions are 25-30 min walks on average. read more
