Booked it because it was right next to Termini and we had a quick 1 night in Rome. Arrived at 11pm to check-in, only then informed our room has a leak in it, so they reserved us a room 15 min drive away at The Inn at Spanish Steps. This completely ruined our travel plan for next morning to walk all our luggage to Termini. By the time we settled down after midnight at the new far away hotel, we realized the new hotel had no hot water. read more

The staff was outstanding. Any requests we had were immediately completed by the staff. The air conditioning did not work in our room. So they moved us to another floor, including our entire party since we all wanted to be on the same floor. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. They also spoke English. Which turned out to be quite a life saver since we had a medical emergency in our party and they were able to translate. The paramedics did not speak any English. The rooms were clean and cozy. The hotel was safe. The breakfasts were very good to quite outstanding. If I ever returned to Rome I would stay here. The only issue was that they prefer the hotel tax to be paid in cash. We paid the hotel tax the night before. When we checked out, we learned that the person at the desk did not record one of the rooms as being paid for. So we had to pay twice. In the future, I would only pay the hotel tax at check out to avoid this problem. read more

Hotel Morgana is advertised as a four star hotel, and that seems about right. The sleeping arrangement that we had for our room is a big reason why I'm giving it a good rating. We have a family of four, so I'm usually stuck sharing a bed with my brother, but that was not the case here. We had a bed and then two bed/couch things that were converted into beds that worked very well. Everybody was really surprised to see that because usually we just get two beds, but this arrangement worked out better. Another plus is the breakfast buffet. The food at the breakfast buffet was far and above anything I've had at an American hotel. They had typical things like eggs, sausage, and yogurt but also more European style options with the meat and salads. Also, the staff was very friendly. The location can be a big plus as well if you don't mind walking. Hotel Morgana is not located in the city center, so it is not very close (1-2 miles) to a lot of the typical Roman attractions. However, it is very close to the subway terminal and Termini train station. From the station, you can take high speed trains throughout Italy on a day trip to Florence or Napoli. The one thing that did concern me a little was that the city tax had to be paid in cash at checkout. I'm always a little hesitant whenever something can only be payed in cash. It is 7 euros a day per person at 4 star hotels and on a week long stay that adds up. read more

Great hotel with superb front desk staff. Conveniently located to the Termini, restaurants, souvenir shops, and a hop-on-hop-off bus away from all the famous Roman landmarks. Daniella from the front desk was very helpful upon arrival and gave us a map. She also made recommendations for a restaurant and activities for us, which we appreciated. The breakfast buffet offered a good selection of hot food, deli meat, and pastries. Drinks were available for order at no additional cost. Though there was no coffee maker in the rooms, coffee, tea, and pastries were made available in the lobby seating area, which we enjoyed between our adventures. The hotel also provides a breakfast biz if you are leaving early -- such a great service! Lotions, soaps, and shampoos were plenty with the housekeeping staff refilling constantly. Most things have been good, but housekeeping does leave a bit more to be desired. The flooring need to be swept in the room every day. I dropped my black sweater and it was covered with dust when picked up -- umm, not cool. The bathrooms were also not cleaned daily, which surprised me because most hotels do... The neighborhood is okay, though tons of peddlers, graffiti on the walls, and groups of people standing around the Termini felt a bit uncomfortable in the evening. However, you do get used to it after a couple days (particularly because Rome seems to have peddlers and graffiti everywhere near their tour sites. read more

We stayed at the Hotel Morgana during our visit to Rome this summer. Let's talk about the good stuff first: The staff was friendly, spoke great English (especially appreciated given our limited Italian), and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. The room was "cozy", yet comfortable. This isn't a 5 star hotel, but then again we weren't paying for a 5 star hotel. It was a safe, clean, and comfortable place to crash and recharge in between venturing out into Rome. Bonus: The package we got included free mini-bar! Sweet! The restaurant downstairs was fantastic for breakfast every day! Every morning we loaded up with fairly traditional breakfast food. The coffee was truly amazing. It actually kind of ruined coffee for us since we're always thinking of the stuff we had in Rome now. The location was a mixed bag. On our way there we were specifically told by our driver not to walk around the area at night. Fair enough, since we were dead tired every evening. However, we were only a couple of hundred meters from the Termini train station. On the whole we really liked the Hotel Morgana. It had everything we wanted in a hotel. The price was reasonable, staff was great, room was comfy and clean, and it was close to where we wanted to go. If you're looking for all of the above on a trip to Rome I definitely suggest checking them out! read more

The room was clean and the service were great and friendly #Costco Travel. The trip was great but have one bad part. We book a business class packages to Rome and pick our sit 2 month ahead. When we got to the airport the seat has been chance. Still business class but are unable to sit together. Damon was able to get us sitting together when he spoke with someone at the business lounge. On the way back they still couldn't help us. If this was the case we could have book it ourselves like we did for Australia and New Zealand trip. Not going to use Costco Travel again. This was a great hotel! We were arriving late at night and leaving early the next morning for a flight. The location is just around the corner from Termini station so that just can't be beat. We arrived in the middle of the night and they were able to check us in very quickly and painlessly. The lobby and hallways were extremely dingy and tacky and old, so I was pretty worried that the "four stars" were somehow wrong. Luckily the rooms were really, REALLY nice. They were brand new and completely spotless. It was so clean we could almost pretend we were the first to ever stay there. It was great. I love when hotels include some extra clean pillows in the closets and they do that here. Very modern finishes too. The beds were comfortable too and they did a good job soundproofing. There was construction outside all night and it was very loud with the window open but we could barely hear it when we closed the windows. The buffet breakfast opens earlier than most (they know their market) and was just ok. Very standard, eggs and bacon, yogurt, fruit, caprese salad (which seems to be standard in most places I've been). Eggs were a little rubbery. But for an included hot breakfast, can't complain much. All in all definitely recommend this hotel if you need access to termini! If you don't need that, there are probably better neighborhoods to stay in in Rome. read more

Excellent hotel! The location was perfect - 5mins from the Termini main line rail station with coach or direct train to and from the airport, about 15min walk from the colosseum and 20-25min walk from Trevi Fountain and other main sites. The hotel itself is a boutique with each room room decorated differently and with their own layouts. We had one double bed room with a small shower and our grown up sons had a larger room with two single beds and a full bathroom. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. The breakfast was included in our rate and is always something we look for when booking a hotel. It was a buffet with full cooked breakfast in addition to continental and free flowing capuccinos brought to our table. A good breakfast set us up with full bellies until mid afternoon. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful and even printed our tickets for the Vatican and visit to Pompeii. We would definitely stay here again. read more

Friendly staff, close to Roma Termini station, and easy to find. We were greeted with a friendly smile and while waiting to check in, we were shown the way to some welcome pastries and beverages which were delicious. Came to stay in this hotel through Costco Travel. Breakfast was average. I expected somewhat more. There is an extra charge for instant coffee/tea in the suite. Not enough amenities supplies for me (No towel robe, no spa slippers, used shampoo tube, etc) One of the things I disliked the most: we had to pay for the city tax (6 euros) per PERSON per night in CASH. They didn't allow us to pay with credit card. Very fishy. read more

Incompetent staff and ran out of hot water for over 12 hours. We picked the Morgana because it is conveniently located in Rome when you are arriving by train. A short 2-3 minute walk and you're at the Morgana. The location can't be beat for an average tourist: the neighbourhood is safe to walk around in at all hours, there are many tourist-oriented restaurants (fixed price menus, english menus, english speaking staff, etc..) and you are close to the transit/train system. We found the hotel was within walking distance of the Colosseum and for those more adventurous like ourselves, we walked all the way to the Vatican. The area is not an upscale area and the restaurant prices reflect this. It is common to receive a 3 course meal for 10-15 Euro's at dozens of establishments within a 5 block radius. Check-in went smooth and we were given a map of the city and some basic directions. Because we booked on the internet we were told we would receive an upgrade and we did. We booked the basic room and the room we received looked identical to the first photo for the Executive Room on their website. First impressions were good - the room was spacious and clean. At night we didn't hear any excessive noise which was really nice. WiFi worked well and fast, when it worked. It was a nightly task to call down to the front desk to have their equipment reset, which is very frustrating when you drop a Skype call. At check-in we were told we received free breakfast and given a card that clearly stated free breakfast. Part way through eating we were told that our room did not have breakfast included, even after the wait staff checked with the front desk. Rather than make a big fuss we figured we would just sort it out with the front desk ourselves seeing as how we had a paper that we received at check-in which clearly said breakfast was free. Unfortunately we received a rude response from the front desk that "it was a mistake" and breakfast was not included. In addition we would have to pay for their mistake as well with the breakfast on our first day. The right thing to do would have been to acknowledge their error and tell us the first day was free, other days would be charged. Instead they insisted that we pay for their incompetence. However breakfast was not the worst part. One night the hot water stopped working. Not that it was cold, nothing came out of the faucet when it was turned to hot. We called the front desk and the gentleman that came up fiddled with the shut-off valves at the top of the bathroom to no avail and said that this is what happens when their hot water runs out. His solution was to leave the hot and cold water running and check back in 30 minutes. It took almost an hour-and-a-half before we were able to get any hot water. Luckily it was enough for a 10 minute shower and by the end of our shower the hot water was gone. Interestingly enough when we checked out the hot water in our room still didn't work - turning the tap to hot resulted in no water coming out. Overall the hotel seemed like it would be a pleasant experience: the upgraded rooms were nice and the location is great. But when you have to deal with calling them daily to tell them the internet is down, having to pay for their incompetence and dealing with almost an entire night of no hot water it seems like a very poor experience. During our 6 weeks in Europe it was, by far, the worst hotel experience we had. If you do want to try this hotel I highly recommend checking their website first; we received the best rate booking through them while getting a free room upgrade and free internet. I suspect the reviews indicating poor quality rooms are from those who used third-party websites as the crappy rooms have to go to someone and it seems everyone who books through them directly is upgraded. read more

This is a great place to use as your home base to see Rome. The staff are very helpful and courteous. The rooms are well kept. Despite their "standard European" size, there is plenty of storage to hold your stuff for a long stay. The grand buffet breakfast may not be traditional Italian, but it helps fuel you for a day of sightseeing; the servers are always ready to bring you another cappuccino. Its proximity to the train station makes metro or train trips easy, while still being nice walking distance to most of the major landmarks. We spent nine nights there and will go back if/when we return to the Eternal City. read more

Our room looked like it was recently refurbished and was very nice and comfortable. Our reservation included full breakfast, which was excellent several types of bread, cheese, eggs and it included Capuccinos! Hotel is walking distance to most of the major attractions. The hotel is located close to a evening market and can be intimidating with the number of people around. We would definitely stay here again. read more

Eh, it was alright. I've been to better hotels in Europe and in Rome. Our check in was really weird. They asked us to go sit in the other room while they took our passports and stuff. We waited and waited and waited and waited...they were busy doing other things to even check us in. 20 minutes later we were called in and we got our keys. The wifi wasn't free and we had to purchase it on a 24 hour basis. We found the elevators....around the corner and up a few stairs (yeah elevators upstairs). There were 2 but only 1 person with luggage could fit in it at one time. That wasn't fun. Once we got to our room it wasn't what we asked for. We had requested 2 twin beds. Of course that wasn't what they gave us. So back downstairs...luckily it only took about 5 minutes. Back up stairs to a room that wasn't as big as the original room they gave us but it did its job. The wifi wasn't very reliable. We had to sit in one spot in the room to get it. On our last night the power went out (not their fault) BUT they didn't tell us anything and the generator was blowing directly into our room so we had to leave because we were starting to get sick over the fumes. They didn't know when it would be back on and wouldn't switch our room. So we had to sit in the lobby until the power went back on to avoid choking to death over the fumes. Would I stay here again? Maybe. I'd rather stay at another hotel but if it was my only option I would. read more

We booked this with a multi-city Italian trip thru Costco. Which included airfare and transfers. Although this Hotel is next door to the huge Roma train station and adjoining transportation hub it doesn't get in the way. We feel that the hotel is on the edge of the city tourist attractions. One of the farther away attractions, The Vatican is easily accessible by the Metro (subway) "A" Route for 1.5 Euro. By your tickets in any tobacco store, it's easy. The hoards of train riders are just like us, trying to get somewhere without a hassle. Don't que if you see an opening, move. Anyway back to the Morgana Hotel. The hotel is a very non-descript place around a middle class working neiborhood. Some small restraunts, junk stores, local barbershop. We could walk everywhere except the Varican within 30-45 minutes. Walking is fun in Roma, lots of fun adventure. The hotel lobby is small and crowded with a engaging staff always ready to give cheerfully help. Next room to the lobby is a small bar sitting area with daily treats. Two corridors on either side of the lobby leads to the back breakfast room, a very clean comfortable dining experience. The breakfast was supplied with our executive room (lol) at 15 Euros, a good deal looking at local pricing. The 6:30-10am timing works well with crowds. The selection was good and varied for American & Continental appetites, Coffee Americano- Style was stout and acceptable. I like a shot of expresso in my American Coffee. The food quality was in line with the cost, not great but good & acceptable. I had seconds everyday, good bread, eggs, ham, bacon, fruit, granola, yougurts, quiche,etc. The manager and staff works well together, we're attentive and friendly. At this price level it's a value and very convienent. The hotel is a standard 5-6 story building with a white marble circular staircase and two small (2 person) elevators that are creepy at first but solid. One is faster than the other. The smaller slower elevator has 0,1,2,3 & 9th floor indicators which sent me on a fun ride while not paying attention to the ride. The floors all have a dark blue-ish carpet and nice dark Mahoney doors and trim. Hallways are narrow but cute. Room doors are impressive. Our "Executive Room" 414 on the street view was at first "Shocking", but very Eoro-Friendly. It's not the Executive Rooms at The Palmer House in Chicago. Small but adequate for a place not to live. GET OUTSIDE ITS ROME. Purple striped wallpaper and purple royal bedspread on a very comfortable bed. Small table, 2 chairs, good size closet, minibar ( soft drinks included). Nice window with privacy mesh & dark curtains. Residences across the street. I liked opening the window and hawking a view of the street life below. All the sounds you'd expect to hear. Cars, shuttering business, garbage trucks, people just living. A local Arab, African, Italian neighborhood. The bathroom was small but appointed appropriate, with nice deep narrow tub, shower combo. Hot water was plentiful, Hot and good pressure. Cold water pressure was very weak. Tap water tasted good. The room size made you want to be outside but not closterphobic. The room has a small safe. The cleaning staff was quite good and every desire was taken care of even to the point of staff coming to my room when I called about Internet service. Ok, what I didn't like. The included internet service was very poor, like AOL sometimes. Different parts of the hotel required new logins with the same password. I could get the Internet service by moving to different areas of my king size bed. This is a big show stopper when trying to buy tickets for different venues. Needs to be upgraded. Ok onto the final thoughts. For value, location, quality I'd have to give The Hotel Morgana a Thumbs Up . Fix the Internet was the big issue. Also a Great Staff. Would I come back. Possibly, but I like new experiences. Hopefully I haven't missed to much and Costco reads this review. read more

We wanted something very close to the train station for our final night in Italy. Glad it was just for one night. I read lots of nice shiny reviews before booking this hotel, so I was not happy when we checked in and I mentioned the free drink we were supposed to get upon arrival by entering the code MORGANAVIP at the time of our booking. The desk clerk acted like he had never heard of such a thing. Until I showed him our paperwork. Then he said the bar was closed...never got the free drink, which isn't the end of the world, but then I later heard the same thing happening to another couple when they were checking in a few hours later. Our bathroom had black marble flooring with a high step up to the toilet and bathtub, with the same marble flooring so that when entering the bathroom the step was virtually invisible. My husband and I both tripped on it, and then when getting out of the shower the step is narrow, so I almost stepped over the edge again. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this because it is such a danger, especially at night when the bathroom would be pitch dark (we left the light on). Also, I heard several guests complaining because the air conditioning was not working, and the desk staff explained that they don't turn it on unless it's hot?!? The website doesn't say they have air conditioning when it's hot, it says they have air conditioning. And it's up to the guest to decide if he or she is hot. Another guest showed us a picture of their room, which was shabby and had cobwebs, and judging from that, our room was a palace. We met someone at The Shamrock Irish Pub who had also had a bad experience with bugs in his room, and they had to switch his room. The hotel is a short walk from the train station through a somewhat shabby neighborhood, which I guess is to be expected for an area surrounding a train station. read more
