Here is what his excuse was "The employee in question is actually not my direct employee. We borrowed him from our sister property to cover a shift." That's it! No offer of a refund, nada. 1. The front desk clerk was smoking a cigarette in the area that guests pull their vehicles up to to check in. I had to walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke to get by him. 2. I realized he was the clerk as he followed me to the hotel, reeking of cigarettes as he blew smoke on me while trying to talk to me. 3. Once he realized I was American, he said the following "Should we kill Donald Trump, or just impeach him?". I found this extremely insulting and disgusting. To even speak of killing another countries President is revolting. I made a comment hoping to quiet him and he would not quit. He went on and on and on about it, and even did so in front of another customer. It was extremely embarrassing. I don't know what kind of people they are hiring at this hotel, but after coming to this hotel multiple times a year and every year, we will never come here again. The man was insulting. The elevator also reeked of cigarettes, likely because of the employee. We also had to put up with a barking dog across the hall from us (didn't know animals were allowed), and the room maids never checked and reset the alarm clock. We were woken up at 5:00AM by the alarm clock and it woke up all of our children, especially our 2 year old whom we couldn't get back to sleep. I've never had an alarm clock go off because every other hotel checks the alarms and removes the previous customers alarm. The room was not properly cleaned and we found black chunks of something and stains all over one of the beds. We weren't going to call your guy at the front desk after our previous run in. The room also smelled of ciggarete smoke and we could smell it in the hallways as well. We have never had a worse experience at a hotel.

Breakfast was good, the waffle maker worked well, and there were lots of options. I won't come back unless it's the only option; it is not worth $250 a night.

There is a solid wall partition between the sofa bed and queen beds but about half of the room doesn't have a partition. It still provided a lot of sound protection, so that the person sleeping on the sofa bed wouldn't hear snoring from the other side. There's also a table with seating, microwave and mini fridge. Importantly, we didn't hear street noise. The breakfast was a little different from most Holiday Inn breakfasts I've eaten before. They had the pancake maker, yogurt and oatmeal like I'm used to but they also had a very bland French toast instead of biscuits, a very porky tasting pork sausage, and 2 types of omlettes.

At check-in I selected the standard 1,000-point welcome gift and the 750-point lounge alternative (in lieu of breakfast for two). When nothing had posted to my Bonvoy account after a week, I emailed the property. They confirmed in writing that both benefit codes were properly logged at check-in but said they couldn't escalate to Marriott until 10 days had passed. Day 10 came and went with no movement. I had to email again on day 12 and also submit a missing stay form to Marriott directly. Only after that did the bulk of the points post. The 750-point lounge alternative is still missing. I have now emailed multiple people at both the property and Marriott customer care about it. No one will resolve it. For context, I'm a seasoned Marriott traveler. I've had stays at Fairfield Inns and TownePlace Suites in suburban locations post points within minutes of checkout. A flagship Autograph Collection property requiring two weeks, multiple emails, and a missing stay form just to recover documented elite benefits is well below brand standard. We're talking about 750 points. The equivalent of roughly $5 to the property. I find it genuinely in poor taste that I have to write a review like this over such a small amount, but here we are. If you're a Bonvoy member who values your points and night credits, I would not recommend staying here. You're going to have to fight to get what you're entitled to

Also there's the SFU campus that is attached to a mall nearby which has the Neptune restaurant. It's in a convenient location. Pool was small though and the hot tub was only at 80f.

You do realize that you are effectively in a major city, with ambulances carousing down Kingsway seemingly at all hours, and the elevators seemed to take forever to 'latch on' to their destination floors, but overall the experience was a positive one. Front desk staff friendly and able to provide with extra supplies. Free breakfast had plenty of fixings, and we had a friendly lady named Crystal give us some of the details of the building during one happy hour. The pool was nice, if a bit overrun by the hockey crowd on the Saturday we were there. Otherwise there were plenty of resources, and the washing and drying machines kept us from having to do laundry on our trip back to San Francisco. Well done, Element Vancouver!
