This was an awful experience. For one, a $200+ motel caliber "hotel", first room was locked from the inside probably by room service. The second room they gave us was upstairs and had what appeared at first to be a bloodstain scattered across the floor. I was p;$$ed off by this point and wanted another room. Nights clerk instead wanted to go see, had gotten off the phone with what sounds like a manager, and had the nerve to tell me "that's a wild imagination you've got, Sir." and proceeds to state it's hairdye. Interesting choice of words for this line of work, to condescend to your guests, right or wrong. So he offers to cancel the reservation, which would've not refunded since it's same night. I calmed down and just wanted a damn room. If Best Western wants to know what night this one, they can contact me and I'll gladly explain. Don't think I forgot this one. Breakfast was meh... Over the last nine years, I have stayed several times. I always look online for the rate, then call the motel directly to make the reservation. This time, the published rate was $115. When I called, I was told the rate would be $182-a rate that didn't show up anywhere. When I asked for clarification, and a lower rate, I was told that was the best they could do. I then booked, online, and received the $115 rate. I just checked in. When I asked why there was such a discrepancy in rates, I was told that the room is $115, and they put a hold of $125 on my credit card. He then told me I "just don't understand how it works" but the $182 was the room plus the deposit. I realized that pointing out that $115 and $125 don't add up to $182, was pointless. So, I was essentially told that I am too stupid to understand their pricing and how holds work on credit cards. I worked for a credit card company for 31 years. Yeah....I kinda do. I went to my room. This room was not at all what we expected. The rooms are dirty, no hot water (lukewarm). Our party had two rooms, one didn't have heat (it's 42 degrees!). I would steer clear of this one! Wyndham needs to update their brand because having hotels like this representing your brand, will result in having no brand at all because people won't stay in these sub par properties. read more

This is now a Baymont. Don't believe the stars on Trip Advisor which is what I did without looking into it. They are in a total remodel BUT none of the rooms have heat! They have a sign on the front desk saying so. Unfortunately we didn't know that when we made the reservation and all the motels in Durango are booked so we can't go elsewhere without driving a distance at night in the mountains. The room we got isn't too bad other than being cold. Carpet is old and dirty looking. Would like to contact corporate Wyndham if I can find a number or email and report the lack of heat --in a mountain town in fall for Petes sake! read more

Whatever you do - STAY AWAY! I arrived Thursday to check-in and from the moment I entered the drive way I had a bad feeling. The photos that are online are a complete lie. This place is run down and disgusting. But I had a reservation and I was coming off a long drive so I wanted to give this place the benefit of a doubt. Maybe the room would be nice - WRONG! When my husband and I went inside to ask if we could check-in early (we arrived in town at 1:45pm). The woman at the desk (the only redeeming this about this place) said she would check. As she was getting ready to see if our room was ready the man working at the computer next to her jumped up and said "I need to check something first. Besides they're early." He got on her computer and proceeded to click around for 10 minutes while the rest of us stood there awkwardly. When he was finally done the woman proceeded to check us in. Once I gave her my credit card she informed me that there would be an $85 hold placed on the card for incidentals. I'm sorry what?? I've been on the road for 10 days throughout the Southwest and no one has done that. She asks if she can place the hold to which I responded "I guess so" since I felt like there was nothing else I could do. Once she had my money locked in she gave me the normal paperwork to sign. She made sure to remind me that there would be a fee charged if my husband or I smoked anything of any kind in the room. Now I was annoyed. I don't smoke (if you do that's fine!) but she pretty much made me feel like she thought I planned to start a cigar lounge in her hotel. Then she proceeded to tell her where should park my car. This was not a recommendation this was her telling me which parking space was my assigned space. Weird. Not bad necessarily but weird. We head up to our room - a King Suite apparently - on the second floor. The room is directly over the lobby and on our way there I pass thru a cloud of marijuana smoke from somewhere. Nice. Again I don't care if you smoke but I have a feeling that these people make a habit of collecting on that no smoking deposit here. Our room is at the end of the hall. Outside our door is a broom and dustpan FULL OF CIGARETTE BUTTS. I can't make this up! To get into the room you open the door and step down. WTF. The room is plain and weirdly laid out. Shabby and not like the photos online. I went thru the room checking it out like I do at every place I stay. I stepped into the bathroom and lost it. There were "particles" floating in the toilet and there was a ring around the bowl. So someone took a sh*t in there and left something behind and housekeeping didn't think to clean???? The shower had this hard white crystallized crap in the bottom of the tub. Not idea what it was. Hubby thought it might be ice but after testing it with his pocket knife determined it wasn't. DISGUSTING. Under the sink was a lump of red...something. And the sinks had white junk in them as well. So we headed downstairs and told the woman at the desk we wouldn't be staying and described the HORROR of the room upstairs. She was genuinely surprised and said she hadn't checked after housekeeping had been thru. I'm sorry - that was AFTER someone cleaned?? She offered us another room which I declined and we left. She was nice but not nice enough to make up for that. Two hours later I get an email saying that the $85 hold will be released in the next day or so BUT I will be charged for the room since it was a late cancellation. F*ck that. I am waiting to hear back from the manager but there is no way I am paying for that room. Do yourself and your family a favor and stay far away from this place. Just down the road is the Best Western Plus Rio Grande Inn. Same (or lower) price and clean room. read more

A neat little place. Obviously an older facility that is trying to adjust to the times. The important part is that the bathroom works and the beds are comfortable. We did have an issue with the door lock not properly working. It would take seven or eight tries to get the door to unlock. Didn't want to hassle with moving rooms so we just dealt with it. Still, overall the room was good. The location was excellent. A lot of neat places to eat that are in walking distance. read more

Worst place ever. First room the AC didn't work and the walls are paper thin. Second room smelled like a dog house and the AC worked marginally. Needless to say we left the property for another major brand for the rest of our work cycle (2 weeks). Breakfast was good. I completed a auto email review from BW with the facts of substandard BW properties and I got a email from the Micheal (property manager) stating that I was put on their do not rent list. When we walked in the room, both beds were undone like someone had just slept in them, the floor was littered, and the walls were so thin you could hear your neighbors. We went to the front desk and told them we would not be staying. My bff fought between the bank and the hotel for 3 weeks trying to get a full refund which she did end up receiving. Like how are you going to charge someone that didn't stay there for a valid reason? I mean, we showed up, saw the place and dipped.They're argument was that we didn't accept another "clean" room. This is a great choice if you are staying in Durango. While it is a bit outside of a town, the rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable with parking right outside of the room. There is a large indoor pool that is pretty cold, but the hot tub is awesome. The breakfast is hot and fresh, which includes house prepared scrambled eggs and sauteed meat with peppers and onions as well as other awesome stuff like yogurt, cereal, and fruit. The staff is really working double time to make people's lives as pleasant as possible. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to stay here on a whim while traveling through Colorado. We first thought we were just staying a night, but because of the fair pricing and excellent room, we decided to stay three! The girl at the front desk was very welcoming and friendly for our 10pm checkin, and was helpful with answering all of our questions. Pool is nice and goes up to nine feet deep, nice hot whirlpool inside a dome that is separate from the motel rooms-- nice privacy. Our room with a single king bed came with a microwave, fridge/freezer, sink, toilet, fully equipped shower and tub, shelves, closet, about five or six lamps, blinds, a very comfortable bed and comforter. Only giving 4/5 stars because of the breakfast selection. Nice assortment of bread, bagels, make-your-own waffles, some pastries and cereals, but it was hard as a vegan to eat as well as an omnivore would. They have almond milk upon request, but were out during my stay. Some vegan butter options (Earth Balance?:) ) would be awesome! They do offer jam and peanut butter for toast and offer orange and apple juice which is nice. :) read more

Older property very well maintained. For a few bucks more we enjoyed a huge over sized room with mammoth Jacuzzi tub. Big comfy king bed. I loved the prompt front desk. We got a great deal on booking.com so I can hardly complain about the price. For what we got, I can also not complain. We got a two Queen bed room on the second floor overlooking the dome pool and had no issues with anything Water pressure was great, room was clean and modernish as it looks the place was recently renovated to be more up to date. They have a breakfast service in the am and it's very popular, the small room is full of people trying to get breakfast (waffles, eggs, bacon, cereal, yogurt, breads, bagels, juices, coffee, etc). My kids don't like those kinds of eggs and I don't feed them waffles or cereal for breakfast so we just had breakfast in our room or nearby most mornings. I guess only complaint was the beds were very very firm... But for the price, the great customer service and the cleanliness, we were pleased. read more

My Husband Bill and I checked in to at 3 pm on July 18. Because only one housekeeper hasd showed up to work we were told our room would be available in about 45 minutes. This wasn't a problem as we understand current labor issues. When we got to room found only 1 towel and only a partial roll of toilet paper. I found the housekeeper in another area and asked for towels and toilet paper. Went out to dinner got back to go to bed and although the bed was made nicely there was no top sheet and the fitted sheet didn't look clean. Notified front desk and a man brought us what was supposed to be a complete bed set for a king bed. We made bed and found the setup was missing two pillow cases and the top sheet appeared to be a queen. A man called wanting to pick up the bedding we removed. Told him that we still needed two more small pillow cases and the top sheet didn't seem to fit. The man told us the set he gave us had everything for a king but brought us two more pillow cases but not a top sheet. We were tired and decided to wait until morning to resolve the top sheet not fitting. On July 19 in the morning we found the bottom of my husband feet we extremely dirty, my feet were okay as I always put on slippers. I got a towel and wiped the flooring to try to figure out how my husband's feet got dirty and the towel was very dirty. I went to front desk to let them know the floor was dirty and we still didn't have the right top sheet after having none. To my dismay the girl at the front desk said we should have checked the room when we checked in. I told her we did and got towels and toilet paper but no we didn't check what appeared to be a fully made bed to see if it had all the sheets and clean or if the floor was clean. In all our travels have never heard anything like that. I asked to talk to the manager and a women came to see us. I told her about the problems, she also looked and agreed the top sheet wasn't a king and we showed her what appeared to be a grease stain on the queen sheet. I also asked her to look at the bottom of my husbands feet to see how dirty they where because the vinyl floor was dirty. She said the floor must have gotten dirty from outside (we came and went from room about three times since arriving and kept door shut, as it was very hot outside) but said she would have the room cleaned. She left and came back with another complete king set (including a new comforter). Out of curiosity I asked if the comforter were changed out between guests and she said no. That means all night I was under a dirty comforter due to queen sheet not fitting properly. This surprised me because there is just a sheet and light bed spread keeping the comforter clean and your body can easily touch the comforter. I asked the lady that we believed to the manager for a refund or discount for our first night and she said ok, but so far that has never happened. We were told that our room would be cleaned and bed made up correctly. We got back at 5:15 pm and our room appeared to be cleaned but the bed still wasn't made. Went to front desk and the girl who thinks we should have made sure our room was right in the first place was there. She wasn't happy nor would she look at me. I asked to talk to manager and she said manger was not available. My husband and I made the bed ourselves for the second time with the set the lady provided in the morning before the room was cleaned. My husband is 70 and I'm 65 and we have stayed in many hotels. We also frequent Best Westerns and this was the worst experience we have ever had in any hotel much less a Best Western. We were hoping to talk to the manager again before we left but it didn't happen. On the first morning we went to the lobby for breakfast. Both coffee pot were empty and the eating area was messy and no utensils. We left and came back for coffee and decided not to eat. We didn't go back to lobby for breakfast the next two mornings, so we can't say if things improved. The AC for our room was also noisy and didn't keep room cool. We understand many businesses are having staffing issues and the difficulty this is causing. But the towel, bedding issues and the vinyl floor being dirty are troubling. Even more so with Covid and other disease issues going on these days. read more

What a surprise at this hotel in Durango...welcoming staff, large clean rooms and a really good hot/cold free breakfast with homemade green chili! There is an enclosed pool too, close to downtown Durango, the train and many walking paths. It's a little more expensive than others in Durango, but l would stay again on my next trip! read more

Further the hotel is located in a sketchy part of town with limited food choices in close proximity. Reader, beware. I don't know how this place gets away with charging what they do for a room, because for the same price you could stay at the La Quinta at the other end of town, which was built in 2016 and is much nicer. This Best Western reminds me of a Motel 6 with slightly nicer bed linens. We got to our room, and immediately noticed a bad smell - imagine a rest stop bathroom and you'd be pretty close. Pillowcase on the bed had a stain (looked like blood?), curtains dingy, bathroom window opens yet doesn't have a screen. We had driven 5 hours to get to this "hotel" to check in for our last night in Durango before driving home, but after being in the room for less than an hour we decided to just drive the remaining 7 hours home and fight exhaustion than stay in that gross, creepy, smelly room. Hotel is older but generally clean. Biggest issues is no sound insulation between rooms. Our room had a crack in wall and had to leave tv or bathroom fan on to have a little noise isolation from neighbors. Popular with ski folks who are apparently noisy and take up a all available space in any given area. Standard hotel breakfast but will run out of things when hotel is super busy. King room had plenty of space, fridge, microwave but low low sinks and counters might be struggle for tall people. Toilet was hard to get to stop running. Staff was very friendly and courteous. BWMS is a fine property, and the rate was reasonable ($124/night and $140 with all tax included in July) when compared to newer properties around Durango. The service from the staff and property managers is the shining star here. Due to incldement weather, we had to shorten our stay here and the manager was very flexible in allowing us to cancel our reservation for that night by 11AM on that morning. Nice! As for their continental breakfast, I liked that they offered a couple of coffee choices to go with the eggs, bacon - and waffles (which had both whipped cream, blueberries & strawberries to be used as toppings...yum!). The covered pool is a very nice touch for the kids, as it was getting pretty cool out even in July (low 70s). Even the FREE WIFI works at the pool area. The rooms here are nicely updated but for me personally the bed could have been more firm. My critiques are very picky, but they are anyway; 1.) Why do hotels that put 6 pillows on a bed and each pillow and all are EXACTLY THE SAME TYPE?!! What's up with that? Don't they understand that different people may like different pillow types? 2.) My other critical comment was regarding the air conditioner; the desk / table and the curtains completely blocked the air flow from an otherwise perfect room. Overall, we like staying in northern Durango and will stay at BWMS again! read more

We had the pleasure of staying here for 6 nights while we explored all around Durango and were really happy with the experience from start to finish. The staff is all very friendly and helpful and the room exceeded my expectations. It was your basic room with fridge/microwave, which was nice. It felt very clean and the maid/maintenance service was top notch. The in-room toiletries were really high end and they even include make up remover face wipes which is an absolute first for me! The hair dryer in our room was bad and they didn't have an extra one on hand. An hour later, they arrived with one that we can only guess they ran out and bought just for us. The free breakfast wasn't that bad either although it was your typical fare. The waffles were tasty though! The spa and pool were a big plus as well, as was the real fruit flavored water they had available in the lobby all the time. Also, having a full on grocery store almost directly across the street is a big plus too for those of you that might need that! If we could put up one fault, and this is minor, it would be nice if the TV provider gave you a TV Guide-style channel so you knew what was on at the time. When we switched rooms the new keys did not work and we needed to go back to the front desk to have them activated. After a rough start to our visit here all was OK. The room was old but functional. First time in Durango, stayed here for a night. At first, the hotel has a little worn appearance on the outside. However, the rooms are nice and clean which is what matters the most. The receptionist was very nice and check in/check outs were smooth. Breakfast was ample and typical - waffles, cereal, bread et al. However, seating was enough. Hotel has a big covered pool - did not use it so no review. Hotel is in a convenient location. Restaurants are in the vicinity. It's on US-550 to Ouray, so perfect place to stay close by for anyone who's going to use it. Nice experience overall; I will definitely be staying here again if I go back to Durango. read more

This is a classic motel that has been updated with lots of granite and is done tastefully. Room was nice and roomy and everything was up to date. I booked this place after seeing some of the reviews of the less expensive motels and, although more expensive, it meet our needs very well. It is too bad that you must pay this much for a decent room these days!! The indoor pool and spa worked well and the breakfast was adequate. The bed was nice and firm and we slept very soundly with no noisy neighbors or police coming around like was in the cheaper places. read more
