Great location, facing the beautiful lake Dillon, only 15 minutes away from Loveland ski area. We loved the lodge-style rooms. Our room was downstairs in building 2, which is the same building as the hot tub & sauna, just behind the office/breakfast room in building 1. Having the room directly open to the parking lot made it easier to get our winter sport gears in & out of the car. It was also nice to have the view of the lake through the window & when you walk out the door. Now, the accommodations. Coffee, tea, & granola bars were always available in the office, next to the reception desk - loved this! Breakfast options were 2 hot items (eggs & sausage/bacon), individually-packaged pastries, breads, peanut butter & jelly, oatmeal, yogurt, 3 types of fresh fruits, coffee, juices, milk, & nondairy milk. Loved that they had uncrustables in the pastry box. The room was spacious, with a kitchenette, medium sized fridge, wine opener, bottle opener, plates, cups, eating utensils, a baking pan, basic utensils & pots/pans for simple cooking & baking. It was nice to make & enjoy a quick warm meal in the comfort of your room after a day of skiing/snowboarding. There is a City Market grocery store (Kroger family store) less than 5 minutes away drive, past traffic lights. There are many stores & restaurants within 5-minute drive. The room pricing was reasonable for the provided amenities. We would definitely come here again. read more

I wish I could give this place zero stars. It blows my mind this place is rated as highly as it is. Booked a NON-SMOKING, pet friendly, double double room w/kitchenette for one night, in advance, as we were traveling cross country for a family wedding. At check in I was given 2 key cards that did not work. Back to the front desk. Was given 2 different key cards that worked about 50% of the time, and the room reeked of cigarette smoke. I'm allergic. Back to the front desk. After driving 8 hrs. Front desk clerk offered to move us to a king room, allegedly non-smoking, no kitchenette. Not what I booked or needed. No other rooms available. Asked to speak with manager. Front desk clerk called Ana the mgr and I asked to speak directly to her. Over the phone she reiterated what the clerk said and gave me options: 1) They'd place an ionizer in the room but we'd have to vacate the room for 2 hrs. It's now 6p 2). Move to the king room, unacceptable as that's not what I booked or needed, with no guarantee THAT room is really a non-smoking room 3) Check out and not charge me for the 15 minutes we've been in that room. At 6p, after driving 8 hrs, manager Ana suggested I find another hotel. One that accepts dogs, is non-smoking, 2 beds, on the first floor, and just for 1 night. Sure, that'd be a snap! For a manager of this hotel to even suggest this is ridiculous. Instead I suggested Ana compensate me for THEIR problem, THEIR error. Something for the fact that I had to take meds for a headache and nausea while in that room. She ignored my request. Only 1 of 3 lightbulbs worked in the bathroom, the Iight fixtures had a thick layer of dust on them, and the ceiling fan could not be set to 'high' as the blades sounded like they were going to fly off! I was charged $187. This property has a SPECTACULAR VIEW of the Dillon Reservoir! It's a great location. But they clearly refuse to put the money into the property for repairs, let alone a badly needed update, or hire properly trained staff, including their manager. ******* Since I posted my review on other apps, Best Western Ptarmigan manager Anna Staszel responded. I pushed back on her lies: Ms Staszel, In your last paragraph you state: "The desk did try reaching out to you shortly after you the issue in your room was brought up and the options were offered to you in order to see how you would like to proceed. However, there was no answer from you when calling you or the room. Therefore, they assumed all was fine with the room and your stay." My response: THIS IS A LIE! NONE OF THIS HAPPENED! I can only surmise that you're confusing me with another dissatisfied customer. I spoke with you on the phone ~6p on 9/1/25. Your front desk clerk (whose name I neglected to ask for) called you as I was standing at the front desk. I asked the clerk to hand the phone to me so I may speak with you directly. No one called our room. Why would that even be an option when you had my cell phone number? WE SPOKE DIRECTLY! A simple check of your front desk phone records will prove you're lying. But nice try. The options you and I discussed on the phone were outlined in my Google and Tripadvisor reviews. The ionizer treatment is now 30 minutes from 1-2 hours? Does that happen often? Where the time gets shorter each time you tell your story? ALL my conversations took place face-to-face with your front desk clerk, or with you on the phone and your front desk clerk present. There was zero ambiguity about my dissatisfaction with you during our telephone conversation. I booked a pet friendly, double double room, with kitchenette, NON-SMOKING room, on the first floor, for one night, and I booked it in advance. You have an obligation to provide that room or another room meeting those requirements. You did not do that. You LIED about my room being NON-SMOKING, you didn't have another similar room available, and you could not guarantee the room you offered me (king w/NO kitchenette) was truly a NON-SMOKING room. You didn't compensate me for YOUR error and YOUR problem. You should have. Then to charge $187?! Outrageous! We stayed at a number of pet friendly hotels during our cross country trip, and NOT ONE of them charged even close to what you did. They honored my reservation, requirements and all, with zero problems. The lights worked in those rooms, so did the ceiling fans, and key cards. Their NON-SMOKING rooms were truly NON-SMOKING and were in much better shape too. Lying doesn't help you at all. You'd be better served to just acknowledge your errors, the condition of the room, and the horrible manner in which this was handled. As a retired Human Resources executive for a Fortune 100 company, you should be fired for LYING about what happened. DO NOT STAY HERE We had a terrible experience at Best Western Ptarmigan Lodge in Dillon, CO. They gave us a basement room that was extremely musty and smelled strongly of mold and mildew. The rooms have NO A/C, so there is almost no air circulation -- the only way to get air was to leave our door open to the hallway (which felt unsafe) or crack a tiny window that did nothing. We told the front desk within 2 minutes that we could not stay there because of how unhealthy and unsafe it was. The only "solution" they offered was a small fan, which we didn't even take because it wouldn't fix the problem. They refused to move us or refund us, even though we never stayed in the room at all. The whole place felt run-down, with a sketchy vibe and clientele that made us feel even less safe -- like a motel that rents by the month or by the hour. Dillon is great but not this hotel. Unless you enjoy breathing in mold all night and wondering where the local hospital is, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. read more

Noisy, Smelly & Hot! We got hardly any sleep here! The short story... PROS: -Convenient distance to Dillon Amphitheater (just across the street); if you are here for a show. You can hear the music from your room & don't have to find parking. -great breakfast food variety & coffee creamer choices CONS: -Room 102 has an awful and unbearable smell -No air conditioning or air unit, so it gets stuffy in there if you don't open the windows. -No quiet hours are enforced -If you come for a concert, you may end up dealing with belligerent/drunk and disrespectful guests. The long story... We stayed here the other night as a family of 3 & specifically because we were going to a music show at Dillon amphitheater. It is right across the street, which was great for convenience. However, from the moment we checked into our room (#102), the room had an awful smell. I knew they were sold out, so we were stuck with this room. This is a motel-style of hotel, so we had to open the windows and door to air it out. The awful smell was bearable only when fresh air came in. After the concert, we tried going to sleep in our room with the windows and door shut, but it was way too hot and stuffy (as there is no air conditioning unit). We opened the windows and tried falling asleep. But some drunk guests next to us were partying outside our door and were loud! The partying then turned into a full on yelling match/fight between a man and woman that lasted (on and off) until 2am. At one point, she was punching and kicking someone's car. A staff member of BW walked right by without addressing it! Then at 3am, someone's car alarm kept going off- at least 8 different times. At 6:30am, a family was packing up their car, yelling at each other "DO YOU HAVE THE KEYS? DON'T FORGET TO GRAB _____" Needless to say, we got very little sleep! read more

I last stayed at this hotel 40 years ago. Not much has changed. It was a solid choice back then. Today it feels very dated. The phones are the same retro push button model, decor is mostly the same, TVs were updated maybe 15 years ago but nothing smart about them. WiFi exists now but is at speeds that were considered fast 15 -20 years ago. Not enough outlets for the era of devices and charging. Two clocks in the room both set to amusing random times. Ceiling Fan is in the corner of the room above a small table which does nothing for sleeping. Key card system is the same as it was 40 years ago and is very finicky. People rave about the breakfast. That is simply confusing. I think I ate eggs but I can't verify it. A selection of prepackaged pastries awaits you. Bathrooms were partially redone but after 40 years grout just looks dirty because it is. The biggest negative is the heat in the room. We stayed in mid December and had the heat off the entire time. The room was so hot we had to have the door to the balcony open the whole time to sleep. Still too hot. Positives: by the lake (though we had no view), balconies, friendly staff. Free breakfast. Points for fresh whole fruit and almond milk. A relative value in an expensive area but a time trip back to the late 80s and hot rooms even in winter. You can hear everything in the hallways as well. Needs updating. I could not help but think that someone was making good money on this place by simply not updating and maintaining it. But it's a good choice if you can't stomach the stupid-expensive rates down the road for mediocre but more trendy. This feels slightly down market but safe and friendly. read more

Never in my life treated this poorly. Got in late with my wife and attempted to check in. My hearing bad so the clearly had to repeat herself more than she liked. All the sudden she says in a sharp voice "what's the matter you no understand Asian accent!" I say to her you don't have to be so f'n rude. She says no room for you m'fer and threatened to call the police. She was off her rocker. Never in my life have I had to experience this! read more

What a Wonderful experience. The receptionist signing us in was a true treasure. So hospitable and kind. The room was very comfortable and accommodating. So far we have stayed in two Best Westerns and they were absolutely the best. Only one small issue. We were told to keep our room keys away from our cell phones and unfortunately we did not remember we had to do it. When we tried to open the security door the card did not work. Luckily when we called the front desk the reception man kindly brought us a new card. We felt terrible for inconveniencing him and we apologized and thanked him for helping. He was rather rude and abrupt. Otherwise we have decided that Best Westerns are the hotels we will stay at. Very reasonable very respectful and very accommodating. read more

The hotel staff seemed really friendly. However, the room smells like a wet dog. I found some moth's lingering in the bathroom, but worst of all the room is freezing. It is 16° outside and it's probably just slightly warmer inside. I'm huddled in a fuzzy blanket and winter clothing and a heating blanket and I'm still cold. I complained to the office- they said come and get a heater. I went to the office to get a heater and they said that the maintenance man would work on the issue. It is almost 6 in the evening and it looks like I'll have another restless night as I'm trying to stay warm. Also, the walls are incredibly thin and last night someone was blasting their music into the early hours of today. My last time here in 2019 was great. The rooms were warm and clean, and didn't stink. read more

I've been going up to Summit Country for 20 years and I can't believe I never stayed here before. The location can't be beat; the view of Lake Dillon and the mountain from the breakfast room was better than any other place I've stayed at. The property has a quiet courtyard and lot's of benches and tables to sit at and relax. All the staff we met were kind and helpful, from the maids to the front desk clerk. A place like this is a piece of nostalgia and quite the gem. I can't give it 5 stars for because it does not have any sort of air conditioning, and we were there in November and the room retained heat after then gorgeous Colorado sun hit it. However, the windows opened in the room they were large enough to provide good enough air flow. The trouble is being with someone who doesn't want the curtains open during the day. Although the areas does not seem sketchy, having windows open at night on the first floor is problematic. And, there are not very many electrical outlets. We rented the dog-friendly double-queen with the kitchenette and it was really comfortable The beds were soooo comfortable and very clean. The one criticism I can give is that the counter in the kitchenette was not well wiped down between guests. There was some remnant of something a bit crusty and stuck on. It was very small and had my hand not fallen on it, I probably would not have seen it. Still, not a great idea. The bathroom was very clean and the updated vanity and tiles in the shower were well-maintained and clean. Although the kitchenette floor was not brand new, it was clean and in no way out of place. From our window, we had the best mountain and lake view. And we were so close to the walking paths that we could break away when we needed. The air was so fresh...as was the room. We stayed there for a conference and were informed during the conference that this very nostalgic ski-town motel was going to close. My guess is that it was blighted for not being updated to compete with more current places. Understand that blighted does not mean that a building is in terrible shape. Homes can be blighted when they were built with only one bathroom. In some cases, when surrounded by more modern homes with two or more bathrooms, a dwelling can then be considered blighted...even if it is in good repair. There are more nuances, of course, but I often find the blighting of properties problematic. By allowing this to happen, Dillon, which is a very cozy Rocky Mountain town, devoid of a plethora of tourists...at least between October and November, may lose that quaint ski-town feel. And, that, is a shame. Ptarmigan is a Best Western, which is a hotel chain, of course, but they are all independently owned. The staff was truly helpful and kind while we were there. I am so happy I had the chance to stay here while it still exists. More and more these little gems are going by the wayside. So, if you have a chance, stay for the night. There are great restaurants within walking distance and a sweet little Ampitheater that hosts some good concerts in the summer. And the bike/run/walk path is fantastic, right off the resevoir which does take you around the dam. read more

The lady at front desk night shift on May 31st 2024 had a very bad attitude. We booked a lake view room and upon arrival she said 'there's no such thing'. So I asked if can we get one, she did not reply. I understand if all rooms with a view are booked but absolutely so reply. We told her we will pay extra for it, she just said no. We could have paid 20$ more and gone to Hampton Inn with a Mountain view room but chose this hotel because it said lake view. Such a waste of money for nothing. She did not want to answer any questions and just wanted to get rid of us. Will never stay of recommend anyone to stay here. Terrible customer service! read more

We were impressed with this hotel for their safety practices during the pandemic, which was our main reason for booking here. We had no complaints, had a great sleep in comfortable beds, quiet room, bagged continental bfast, a nice room, good service, good cleaning, and would stay here again for sure. There's a restaurant right there next door, it's walking distance to the Ice Castles for Winter, and it's close the the rest of the town attractions. Easy drive along the lakeside to the next town up. Our room had good heat, working windows, microwave, fridge, ironing board, nice bathroom, great mattresses and pillows... Will stay here again for reliable amenities. And we want to give them our business for their efforts in keeping all of safe by taking the pandemic seriously. This little hotel/motel is convenient and priced well. Plenty of parking, in-room microwave/refrigerator, free wifi. Fantastic views of the lake, quiet setting, and easy walking to a host of nearby restaurants/taverns are all positives. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This hotel used to provide a free continental+ breakfast including eggs and waffles. With COVID protocols in place, they could easily have skipped the free breakfast. However, they still provide a breakfast as a complimentary grab-and-go with most of the same goodies. This impressed me so much as they really do appreciate your business and provide above average service. It may not be a five-star Hyatt Regency.... but they'll treat you better than what you'll get at the glitzy hotels. Their customer service and appreciation really shows. Dog friendly is not accurate. You cannot leave your dog in your room even if in a kennel for fear they may bark and annoy other guests. Never mind the poorly insulated ceiling/second floor that allows you to hear every footstep above you. Or that there is no air conditioning so you have to open your windows for cool air and hear all the the other guests chatter outside your door as well as them hearing your own private conversations...or intimate moments. NVM we had none of those because we got stuck in a smaller, less comfortable room because hotels have yet to figure out how to explain pet policies to third party reservation companies that lie to you about being the be all end all of the reservation cycle. This is a great little hotel property, nestled on the shores of Lake Dillon. They are pet friendly, so my dog and I were able to sleep well after some fun days exploring the area in the fall. They have several different buildings, and the dog friendly one that we were in, was an old one story building near the office. It was great to be right in town, where we could walk down to the lake front trail, and also so close to so many other trails too. I was a bit skeptical at first about staying at a Best Western, but while this property is quite old, it has been kept up so nicely. You can definitely tell that the owners of this hotel take great pride in their hotel. Can't wait to stay here again soon! read more

We've been coming to this lodge off and on for many years. We always feel comfortable and at home. The rooms are clean and very well maintained. It sits right next to Dillon Lake. The breakfast has a nice assortment (scrambled eggs, bagels, muffins, toast, cereal, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, refrigerated items - packaged yogurts, fruit, juice, coffee, tea, milk). This hotel is fantastic! Nothing overly fancy or complicated, just a nice simple clean room and friendly staff. Had a nice stay here for a snowboard trip. Keystone and others are only minutes away. Parking is free and you get to park close to your room. There is a nice hot tub area off building two that is clean and very large. There is also a sauna, two rest room's, a shower and plenty of free towels provided in this area. My only issue was the temperature of the room. it was unbearably HOT!! I think the heating is set by the office because the in room thermostat did nothing. Sleeping with the window open when it was 9 degrees outside wasn't an option. So we just had to sweat it out. I notice plenty of other reviews that mention this, so I think this is an ongoing problem. Beds were very comfortable with nice linens and good standard size pillows. Would be 100% perfect bed if 2 king pillows were provided as well. Overall, this is a great value for your money. And would be 5 stars all the way if the room had heating the guest could set to their preference. read more

I cannot recommend it unless you are staying on the top floor. walls and ceilings are paper thin so you can hear the steps in the room above you as if they were in your room, really annoying. Cleanliness is what matters to me when staying at a hotel. We found some long and short black hairs in our blankets. I think finding hairs in your bedding is pretty disgusting because it doesn't make you feel like the bedding has been properly washed. Also disappointing, was that there was no air conditioning, which we knew and is fine because we know the weather at night is pretty cool pretty much year round, but it's really annoying when you have to open your windows to cool the room off at night and have to hear a bunch of drunk loud kids in the parking lot, listen to the beeping of the garbage truck early in the morning, and also smell the cigarettes from the neighboring rooms balcony. On the upper half of 3.5 stars... This is probably the best place to stay in Dillon for your Front Range ski trip... You are 15-30 minutes to several major ski areas. The rooms are standard, but the beds were quite comfortable! Flat screen TV's (not HD).. they recently re-modeled the bathrooms so that is always a plus.. There is an inside hot tub which is pretty relaxing after a day on the slopes... The complimentary breakfast is about a C / C+. Everyone that works here was very friendly. I would have given 5 stars but we didn't realize it would be outdoors where there is no hallway- instead, you park in front and walk into your room. I wouldn't have stayed had I known before we booked since I do not feel safe doing that when traveling. I also didn't like that we could hear the people above us and people right outside. Such a great hotel. The views are amazing, and this is a very lovely, well maintained property. Dog friendly and not far from local restaurants. I love Dillon and this is a great place to stay while visiting. It is right across the street from the outdoor concert venue and the views! It is amazing here! The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were updated. They don't have air conditioning but there is a very nice breeze that comes through . In the summer if it gets too warm, ask for a box fan. I didn't mind that there is no air conditioning, it rarely gets as hot as it does in the City here, so it's not bad overall. The front desk was friendly and the complimentary breakfast was very good. I thoroughly enjoyed the stay at the Ptarmigan and will most definitely be back again! read more
