I am specifically rating Beth's for their breakfast. I'll have to drop in for a different meal sometime to speak past breakfast. Beth's puts out a wonderful breakfast plate. Full Stop. If you are looking for something trendy or shi-shi, that isn't going to happen here. This is standard cafe breakfast, done to a high standard. The staff is super friendly, and the coffee flows in a constant river to your cup as well. The place is for sale, so hurry up and grab it if you have always dreamed of running a place with happy diners and a good reputation. read more

We've eaten breakfast here two days in a row now, because there is basically nowhere else serving breakfast in 10 mile radius. The kitchen is a little slow due to lack of help (like everywhere), but at least they are open and the breakfast results are excellent. Traditional country/diner breakfast offerings. Prices are reasonable. Wait staff is very friendly, and hustle. Both versions of the stuffed hash browns are great. Excellent omelets as well. Don't forget to check the board for the specials, which we kept missing! Highly recommend for breakfast. read more

So yummy! We got the lunch special: creamy rice and chicken soup with a ham salad sandwich and I loved it. Another person in my party thought the soup was a bit too salty but ate it all nonetheless. The portions are pretty nice, a full bowl of soup (not a cup) and a whole sandwich (not a half like we were expecting for some reason). The overall menu had slimmer pickings but the lunch specials seemed to be where it was at. After we ordered they changed the soup lunch special to a new option that also looked fantastic. I do wish the second soup option was known before hand as I think another person in my party would've preferred that one. If I'm in the area ever again then I'll be coming back. read more

While in Alma for a weekend our bartender recommended Beth's as the best breakfast place around and she was not kidding! This place is your classic small town cafe except the service is really spectacular, the coffee is stronger than you'd expect, and it was packed! We tried the Stuffed Hashbrowns and the Biscuits and Gravy and both were awesome. They allowed us to swap out scrambled eggs in favor of over medium on both dishes. The prices were very reasonable and portions large but not overwhelming. If we are ever in the area again we will for sure be back! read more

Great place to go if you are a small party. If you are a party of 6 or more, plan on waiting a while. That's my only complaint! The business was Gang Busters! The food phenomenal for a small town in my opinion! I was passing through, as the restaurants in Alma were closed on Monday, and it was lunch time, so we had to double back. HOLY COW!!!! We had gone for a morning cruising from the twin cities. The day before we had looked for breakfast restaurants and this was the earliest one that opened in the area. At 6:30am! They offered patio seating and it was perfect for the morning. Great, fast and friendly service. They prefer cash but can go next door to the gift shop if you have card only. Don't let 1970's decor dissuade you from eating here. We ate here two mornings in a row. I ordered the same thing. Stuffed hash browns filled with diced ham and scrambled egg. Perfect breakfast stop on the Great River road! Our server, Pam, was excellent-friendly and attentive. Not a huge menu, but classic diner choices. My husband and I enjoyed the biscuits and gravy and eggs Benedict. The cinnamon roll was yummy as well. Have to pay at the gift shop if using a card. I wish I'd had more time to check it out. Wandered down to Beth's for lunch during an impromptu motorcycle tour of the region. If you'd like to get the picture in your mind, our riding gear is more astronaut than pirate. Our friendly server started listing the specials and we stopped her after one; the hot beef sandwich. Smothered with gravy and served with a fluffy, buttery scoop of mashed potatoes, it looked the part. And then we were offered creamed or grated horseradish; I was pretty liberal with mine and it really opened up the flavor. Finished the meal with righteous pie that was by all accounts homemade and locally sourced - I had the blueberry and my buddy had the rhubarb custard. Excellent on all accounts with a buttery, flaky crust and filling that was still bit tart and not the syrupy sweet mess you'll find at lesser establishments. One of the better small-town diner's I've patronized while wandering aimlessly around the Driftless Region, and certainly worth a stop if you have a predilection for well executed diner fare. read more

I haven't been back for awhile, but stopped with two of my Senior Citizens, and was pleasantly surprised they had fresh beef liver, mashed and gravy, bacon an onions, we ordered Medium and WoW, it's the best I've had in 25 years!!! Perfectly cooked, fresh not frozen, the onion and bacon was perfectly incorporated into the dish! The Special was $8.95.. included green beans, creamy slaw, mashed with a splendid beefy gravy on the mashed! It's illegal to put it on the Liver!! It's a true little Gem Cafe, Breakfasts are great.. Several of their Lunch specials are just that!! However, I'm not a huge fan of the Sandwich selection, they shine in the Blue Plate Specials!! read more

Beth's has really changed. It used to be family friendly in all categories. We recently visited and ended up leaving shortly after being seated. The menu is WAY over priced for the area; it's Nelson, not the Twin Cities! The décor hasn't changed in the last 20yrs or more. Service is not what it used to be as well. Not especially a warm and fuzzy atmosphere for a grandma's living room facade (rather chilly/seemed unappreciated as a paying customer). I felt better received at the cheese factory across the street... Which is where my son and I had our lunch. Kudos to Nelson Cheese factory. Maybe will try Beth's again? read more

Rude is all I can say. If I could give a zero star I would. I would avoid place at all cost!! Stopped in for lunch and had a burger. Burger tasted wrong and smelled odd. Everyone at table agreed smelled wrong. Told waitress (who happened to be the owner also) she instantly said that the burger was fine, fresh and they are open everyday so nothing could be wrong with burger. She returned again after taking my burger away and continued to argue that the burger was fine and fresh. Absolutely rude, she would have her say and walk away from table without hearing anything I had to say. Came back and threw our bill at the table. Went to another local establishment in town, in conversation my experience came up...the locals agreed with poor attitude and rudeness of the restaurant owners. Wow! This is what the world is coming too. Still cannot believe the rude customer service, shameful to treat any paying customer this way, even worse when it's the owner! The folks working couldn't be more friendly but the food was bland. My friend ordered a chicken and biscuit dish from the menu pf daily specials but had to search for any sign of chicken. Green beans were tasteless and obviously directly from a can with no effort to improve them. My ham and cheese was ok but unfortunately my french fries were the highlight of the meal for us. The restaurant didn't accept plastic but we were invited to pay for our lunch at the gift shop next door. A bit odd we think. Food was a "1" while service was a "3." The overall experience was a "2" and a big disappointment for anyone looking for tasty homemade-style food in a rural setting. read more

On a long trip along the Mississippi river Beth's Twin Bluffs Cafe was exactly the break we needed. The food was hot, fast, and delicious. We stuck to breakfast but couldn't resist the pies as we saw them coming out of the kitchen. Our server, Megan, was a delight and kept the coffees fresh and a smile on our faces. No alcohol and no Italian sodas, so instead of a healthy beer I ordered liquid junk food, a cola. Great place for an all American meal. We are vegetarians and often have a hard time finding food in rural areas but Beth's was perfect for us - lots of good, simple food (grilled cheese, french fries, salad). Nice server who was helpful. We sat by the window and watched the sparrows flock around the bird feeder - very pretty view. If you are looking for trendy/upscale, this is not the place for you, but if you just want a filling meal in pleasant surroundings, Beth's is great! read more
