Saw this listed in DoIt512.com's list of underrated Mexican restaurants and decided to try it out. I'm glad we did. The dining room is old school but the food is spot on. My mini tacos were amazing with juicy and tender Al pastor done the right way. Guacamole disappeared quickly as it was really fresh and delicious. Pretty reliable Mexican spot especially at the price point. We came here for breakfast on the east side and it was well worth it. Really good tortas. The coffee was also pretty good for a diner style. Staff were quick and friendly. There's a good amount of parking space. I will likely return if I'm in the area. read more

A perfect combination of really good price point and flavorful food! I got huevos rancheros and coffee, and I really liked the sauce on the eggs, it was spot on! I added some green salsa as well to add some spice. Everything came out super fast and fresh. The server was also on point with coffee refills. I had an incredible takeout experience from Beto's when I was feeling under the weather. I ordered some chicken tortilla soup in the restaurant and the woman at the front said it would take a bit. I didn't mind -- I believe the cook was preparing me fresh pico and frying me corn tortillas. Whatever it was, it was worth the wait!! I've tried tortilla soup all over east Austin and it's not good...overly salty and not enough chicken. This, however, is now my go to! The staff is friendly and you can literally see the kitchen from the parking lot through their door. I cannot wait to try more from Beto's! Such a cute local place with an extensive menu! The prickly pear frozen margarita was enormous and strong- yum! I had the enchiladas al carbón, and they were absolutely delicious! The beef was tender and flavorful, and the chile con queso is the best I've had in years. Even the rice was amazing, and I am typically not a fan. Since the restaurant is close to the Austin Community College Eastview campus, I look forward to stopping here before or after classes. read more

Here is a hidden Austin gem! Beto's has become one of our favorite go to places with affordable yet surprisingly excellent fare. Surprising since the outer appearance is unassuming and does not scream "trendy". First the staff is consistently welcoming and friendly. The place is always clean and tidy. Down to the gritty. First, the salsa is one of our favorites in town and there is a delicious green salsa option as well (not for tender palates). I personally come for the tortilla soup which is consistently fabulous! It has a clear broth enhanced with chicken, rice, carrots and other goodies. It also comes with all the fixin's; onions, cheese, cilrantro, diced jalapenos and of course, totopos (re-fried tortilla strips). Phil loves the carne guisada and beef fajita tacos--with a unique South Texas flavor. It's a busy place but not so busy you can't drop in and stay awhile. Another note about the staff. I left a brand new pair of Ray Bans there and the manager kept them safe and gave them to me when we next returned. So kind. In any case, we hope it never gets too busy for us to drop by and linger over a bowl of steaming tortilla soup. read more

I grew up on the south side of San Antonio. So I love me some hole in the wall Tex mex. If that's also your jam, then Beto's is for you. First off, it has that classic family feel from the staff. They are always friendly and will help you navigate the menu if you have any trouble with your Spanish. In fact, most items are listed in both English and Spanish. The food tastes just how my grandma used to make. I often get the carne guisada tacos, the enchiladas, or the been and cheese. Now this is a lil controversial, but I think this place has some of the best menudo. They have what you'd expect in the way of beer. The margaritas are the pre made kind and a lil too sweet for my taste. This is one of my go to spots. read more

Finally stopped by, to try out this place. Great food! I got the Veggie Burrito, the gf got the Cheese Enchiladas. Great atmosphere in this place. Four tv's, music playing, people having fun. Our booth by the windows was comfortable. Our waitress was very friendly, and she got my order just right. I'm vegan, and can't eat most pepper sauces, and no cheese, and she and the cook came through with flying colors. We'll be back, very soon. Highly Recommended! read more

Definitely a mom and Pop spot which I always love in the heart of East Austin it hasn't been gentrified yet. Excellent service great food great drinks pricing is amazing you must eat here. accidentally landed on this place while getting lunch and it is a HIDDEN GEM. I'm from Chicago so I'm definitely not shy to the rugged exterior of the place. but once you get passed the area its in and how it looks visually you realize only once eating that it can compete with some of the better restaurants around. Will definitely be returning. my daughter loved the pancakes we ordered a second round. The pastor tacos were my favorite but the torta was just as equally pleasing. No frills tex-mex with insanely good homemade salsas! No pretenses with their food, it's simple, filling, and flavorful. Best dish is definitely the al pastor tacos and beef fajita platter. Enchiladas need some work, but you can beat the price overall! read more

I would say you're better off going to Taco Bell. The price point for quality of food did not match at all. We ordered a chicken quesadilla and a chicken burrito with a side of retried beans and 2 margaritas. The quesadilla was of very poor quality. The cheese was not fully melted and there was very little chicken in it. The burrito was of the quality that you would get at a gas station very little meat and too much sour cream. The refried beans were of the consistency of a smoothie. I literally had to add water to my margarita because it was "dry". It was very odd. I definitely wouldn't go back to this with the plethora of other options around. The waitress was very friendly but not attentive. read more

This location used to be a different Mexican restaurant that I had never eaten at but, I was excited to see that it turned into Beto's. I have been eating at their other location since before that one was Beto's as well and this location has the same menu but, a larger dining room so you are definitely going to be able to find a seat during peak times. They also serve breakfast at this location as well. We ordered our usual queso and I have to say it was better at this location, the salsa was perfect and the chips were fresh. The chicken monterey was on special and it's one of my favorites but, I decided to try something new that I didn't care for and ended up sending that back and ordering the chicken monterey. It was just as good as the other location. This is one of my go to lunch places to get good consistent Mexican food and I am glad they opened a bigger location with better parking. read more

Frankly, this place is walking distance from my house, and I was hungry. I've been to many of these types of restaurants in Austin, so I didn't expect much. But to my surprise, the food was prepared with a little more love than usual. I had the Steak Poblano: beef skirt steak with grilled onions, bacon, poblano pepper and cheese on top. It's served with rice and beans. It sounds pretty typical, but the beef was cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of caramelization. It was crisp and tender. And the rice wasn't the usual bland, watered down rice. It was spicy and actually had a great flavor, as well as the refried beans. They had a slight hint of bacon and beefy flavor. All in all, I was really glad I popped in. Not the best I've ever had, but it's definitely on my regular rotation of place's I eat at. Yes! This is some of the tastiest Mexican food I've had in a long while. Their tortillas are awesome and they have $3 margaritas! I ordered the chili rellano with shrimp and my friend ordered pastor mini tacos, both of which were flavorful and reasonably-priced. So happy to find this opened up in our neighborhood. Found this place by accident and was glad that i did. They have a breakfast taco special before 11am, 3 tacos (all the same, 2 ingredients) for $3.50! That is a great deal to me, considering my favorite taco is potato and egg. I get 3 of my favorite tacos for $3.50, I'll take that everyday and twice on Sunday. I have also tried a couple of their tortas, the torta cubana with milanesa and the torta Mexicana. The torta cubana was good but a little dry. Once i added in their green salsa to the torta that was better. The torta Mexicana was full of meat and is definalty a full meal. The torta Mexicana has lettuce tomato, sour cream, avocado, breaded, beef, ham, white cheese, chorizo & egg, and a weenie. I was tryin to eat this in the car and i almost ended up wearing half of it, so if you are going to get the torta Mexicana eat on a flat surface. The torta Mexicana was good but i was thinking when the menu said chorizo and egg i was thinking crumbled chorizo and a fried egg placed in the torta, but the chorizo and egg were mixed like in a taco. The texture of the eggs and chorizo was throwing me off, my mind was thinking sandwich but i was tasting breakfast taco in my sandwich so the mixture of both was a little off to me. I'll probably be ordering the quesadilla the next time i go. I saw one of the waitress taking one to a table the last time i was there and it looked so good, very full of meat and cheese. It's pretty standard Mexican food and they do a great job with it. They do one or two tex-mex things if you really want, like a "taco salad" in one of those ridiculously huge fried tortilla bowls. Personally, I love the burritos. Sizable, made like in Mexico. Meat, avo, beans, lettuce, tomato. I really appreciate that since I'm lactose intolerant and tex-mex is just swimming in cheeses, creams, and all that. They have a lot of "plates" too where you get a main and a couple of sides. Big portions. They have a wide selection of tacos as well. I think they have some drink specials and maybe a karaoke night? Not sure as I generally only go for lunch or early dinner. The prices are reasonable, the staff is very friendly, and the food is good. Love this place. read more
