Well, I won't be able to stop giving this place five stars because it's my favorite restaurant in Austin. This last experience was special because they decorated for Valentine's Day and had a photo op which was super cute. Maria was our server and she was super sweet -- speaking both Spanish and English. I tried my spanglish this time around and didn't do so hot but she absolutely took care of us. My friend was here for her first time and this is all she can talk about now. We dined around 2:30am and it was alive and pumping. No drunks or people loitering. It was a wonderful atmosphere. We ordered the fajita dinner special and it was perfect as always. The green sauce (my mouth is watering) is still the best in Texas. They had a new habanero sauce that was very good but butt burning for sure! Man, I love those bagged chips so much -- they're super light and crispy. Also Maria set us up with a bunch of incredible limes. A BUNCH! We ate them all. One thing my friend pointed out was that her charro beans were fatty as they had every cut of pork in them. I didn't like them at all. My refried beans were okay and my rice was edible. Las Cazuelas has a special place in my heart cuz I used to come here all the time during college. I've tried various versions of their cheese enchiladas, and most recently their cheese taquitos, and I can say that I've never had a bad meal here. The taste/flavor isn't very consistent so I would recommend not getting too attached to any specific preparation, but however my food comes out of the kitchen, it's still always good and filling. read more

We needed tacos and it was too damn hot to walk far. This was the first place we saw and it vibed just right Good call!! Breakfast all day, and mostly well under $10---sold!!! We each got three breakfast tacos, which were delicious. I ate them all before I thought to take a pic. Chips come with red and green salsa, and there's a whole salsa bar with other choices. For me, this is what an unassuming Mexican restaurant should be, with great funky decor, obviously some history in the location, and a range of selections in the food, from very simple and cheap to more ambitious when you want a full meal--and what looks like a substantial bar menu. It's a very small place but the food was so good. ordered the Chicken Tortilla soup w/o cheese. Pretty hefty portion. They have plenty of food/drink specials to choose from. Avocado salsa was awesome & our waiter was respectful & attentive. I used to frequent this place when I was working at the airport and wanted a fix to my Mexican food craving. I love coming here for their tortas and extensive bar menu. Service is like your usual locally owned family restaurant. I loved the music they were playing and I love seeing all of the pictures they have around the restaurant. This is by far my favorite place for taqueria brunch when I visit Austin proper. Why? Well, in part due to the comfort induced by repetitive good habits that is an integral part of the Human Condition. I first visited Las Cazuelas back in January after a bit of a bummer of an experience the evening before. The place was quaint, cozy and quiet. I was promptly greeted by a nice waitress who worked diligently with me so I could order my standard taqueria brunch (Steak, eggs & bacon (à la carte)). Okay, if I'm being honest, the first time here it was a pork chop instead of bacon, but you get the idea. I now come here for brunch almost every time I'm in town. They have good food, good people and good prices. It is surrounded by a lot of homeless individuals, but they come off as fairly harmless, and hey, that's life in the big city. So that might be a turnoff for some. But, for anyone with a basic understanding of Human Nature, this should not be a deterrent. In short, I highly recommend Las Cazuelas for some good classic taqueria brunch. Oh, and one more thing; they have some tasty salsas! read more

Open 25 years? I have been in Austin for a very long time and cannot believe that I have never been to this restaurant. Especially since it is open late at night. We were looking for a place to eat after an ACL taping around 11 pm on a Thursday night. Their site says open till 2am. Las Cazuelas has an extensive almost overwhelming menu. My friend is a vegetarian so she has plenty of questions for the server. We both decided to try some of the New Original Plates. They started us off with chips and salsa. The red salsa was watery tomato and bland. The green sauce was thick and spicy fantastic. She ordered the Spinach Enchiladas which consisted of cheese enchiladas with a generous amount of spinach topping with rice and refried beans (which may or not have been vegetarian), salad and guacamole. The guac was pretty bland but it was pretty late at night. I had the Emolada Enchiladas. Five shredded chicken enchiladas swimming in a mole sauce. I didn't want to mess with rice and beans since I had filled up on the chips and salsa. The enchiladas varied with the amount of filling. The mole sauce was rich and chocolatey...just a little too sweet. Ended up taking a couple home because I was full from too many chips. Curiously! Pretty decent food, good prices, late night dining! I need to try them again but earlier in the day as I can only imagine how tired the staff must be by late night. read more

I've been here on multiple occasions already, food is always delicious, service is mediocre as is at any Mexican restaurant, and the atmosphere was exactly what you'd expect from a late-night East Austin gem. I would definitely come back to Las Cazuelas. BUT I unfortunately fear I cannot ever show my face in this establishment again. I'm not sure if the small bathroom means they had smaller toilets (in comparison to other toilets) but after devouring my birria tacos and Cuervo Rita the explosion that came from between my ass cheeks immediately devoured the toilet beneath me. Toes clenched, hands gripping the slick porcelain, and clenching my ass cheeks so tightly as to not let a single drop hit the floor, I made my way over to the sink to finish my business. I was surprisingly able to save the floor from getting shit stains; however, the ceiling wasn't as lucky. I am honestly not sure how the ceiling got explosive diaherria all over it, it must've been while I was doing my debloating yoga poses to help me with the constipation I was dealing with- since that was the only time my ass was in the air. While debloating, I sharted so aggressively that while doing so my butthole let out a sound that one could only describe as the scream of a million sinners burning in hell. I was hoping nobody else in the restaurant heard my shart over the lovely latin music they had playing (which really added a nice touch to my bathroom experience, I even busted out a few salsa moves while trying to debloatify and unconstipate) however I know everyone heard the demonic sounds coming from the bathroom, due to the look of horror on the staffs faces when I came out. don't get it twisted though- the birria and margarita is NOT what caused this fiasco- it was the prior bad choices made in the night that led me to my fate. read more

The service was decent, the food left a bit to be desired. It was pretty standard Cisco fare. The salad that came with our fajitas smelled spoiled, I think the tomatoes were bad. The corn chips tasted like they were made with wheat flour; they were so bad my 10 year old refused to eat them (an absolute first for her). The Jalapeño salsa was so salty, I couldn't eat it (an absolute first for me). As far as the ambiance, it was ok I guess. ...except that we were greeted by a heroin junky who had soiled himself and was nodding off in the front covered dining area blocking our entry when we arrived and our exit when we left. Fortunately, there was a second entrance. It really freaked my daughter out and I promised her we would never come back. No one at the restaurant did anything to request he leave, but seemed irritated that we took pictures for our yelp rating. Yeah... One of my favorite spots for Mexican in Austin. Such an under the radar spot that there is no line or wait for seats even on busy nights. Open 24/7! So it's a great late night spot to hit on your way home from the bars on 6th. Can't say the ambience is great but you don't need it to be at 2am Food is spectacular! Traditional Mexican food cooked perfectly! My absolute favorite is the Burrito Bombero. Once I found it on the menu I've never ordered anything else since. The sauces on it are amazing and I'm not even sure what they are. The chips and salsa are all fresh and perfect for munching on before your meal comes. Our last trip we tried the chorizo queso and flautas. Queso was delicious but didn't remain dipable for long. Flautas we're kind of dry but that seems to be common as far as flautas go. Still the meat and rice and beans were excellent. Margs are excellent as well and VERY CHEAP. Would give 5 stars but while the food is great, the service is not. We often run into slow service or mix up's while eating here. Not a huge deal usually but worth noting. read more

One of the few late nights eateries left in Austin. And for that I'm grateful. A rather traditional TexMex menu and well done. Entrees are served with the usual beans and rice and all we had was tasty and well prepared. The margarita selection is varied as it is in most Tex Max spots but we stuck with the traditional Rita (rocks, salt) and they were perfectly made and a rather generous "pour." ;) The service was very friendly and attentive but never rushed. Prices are very reasonable especially for the gentrified East Side. If you need to dine after 11 on the weekend and don't want Denny's I recommend giving Las Cazuelas a try. read more

The prices are still up on par with other, better restaurants. Here's what I got, and specifically why it wasn't good: Ponce's Combo, sub chicken instead of beef: Quesadilla: burnt outside . When they thankfully re-made it for me, somehow the cheese inside seemed burnt or had some dark mystery residue, even though the outside was under-cooked. Even worse the second try. Chicken: dry. This is (or should be) the star of the show. If it's not good, what are you really getting? Queso: faker than fake. I like fake cheese. I like queso made with American cheese or Velveeta. This wasn't that. This was nacho cheese sauce. Thin, bland, and the only taste was best described as chemical instead of cheese. Rice: over-cooked and mushy. The lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, and beans were fine I guess, but they don't make the meal. read more

It barely had ice, it wasn't cold & it was just a watered down mixture, cheap tequila not good at all. We asked our server if we could trade it for the frozen. She said I would still have to pay for it even when be barely took a sip.... I ended up not getting another one. For my dinner plate, I had a spinach and cheese enchilada with rice. I took one bite and did not touch it again. It was room temperature, the cheese wasn't even melted, the spinach was super oily, wet and wilted... The only good thing l'd say about this place was that the salsa was delicious. Green and red, both. The bathrooms were dirty, smelled, had no paper towels. I wouldn't come here again. I never My friend ordered fideo and it was greasy! How is fideo greasy?! The flautas are smothered with green bland salsa (not spicy) so it took away from the crispy flautas. They were soggy. Food was amazing and the service was even better. Walking in, you know your food is going to be authentic Mexican food. The decorations, the tables, and the menus, are all big signs of its authentic cuisine. We had the Huevos Rancheros and the Huevos Ala Mexicana; and the portions were very generous. Eating them with the Tortillas de Maíz definitely made me feel like I was a kid again, eating my mom's cooking. There is nothing I can say that is wrong or needs fixing. The people here are amazing and make you feel like you have a piece of home in your neighborhood. 10/10 and will definitely be coming back. read more
