There isn't really a system for ordering or receiving your food/drinks. It's kinda like when you go to a family's house and they're busy making sure all the food and drinks have enough love, so you gotta wait for them to do their thang and just quietly enjoy the process. The owner is suuuper kind and greets you as you enter and you can tell he really cares about his customers. He will let you know if he's busy and around how long to wait. I just gotta hand it to the owner, it sounds like he has a lot of regulars who come in for dosa, lentils, and chai. It smelled good every time he made some dosa! Masala chai: got mine with oat milk (he has to brew a new batch if you want a different milk), he usually uses half and half I believe for his chai. Love the spices! I like my chai pretty spicy and this is really good. He sells packs of loose chai so you can brew at home also Note: their masala chai is made with black tea and their pink chai is made with green tea and has pistachio Will come back to try the food and pink chai when it's not so poppin!

The interior now is a very clean, well-decorated restaurant that is very heavily frequented, but makes you feel comfortable, unrushed, and unaware of the conversations around you. We were about a month out from the date we made our reservation - expect similar, though do check in for cancellations, and know that the bar does full menu service as well. Greeters and waitstaff were kind and complete the welcoming vibe through the whole service. Start with some specialty cocktails, or a selection from a decent wine list, and have at the menu. Indicate your interests to the waitstaff and they will help you program your meal service. Family-style works great here and the 4 of us split focaccia, charcuterie and a kale salad, split two pastas for primi, two entrees for secondi, and two deserts. The focaccia was studded with dark cherries and was a nice change. The kale salad was a huge hit, with ceasar-like dressing and almost a granola of seeds and fried capers tossed in. The summer cavatelli special was like a walk through a garden, very fresh and light. The tagliatelle is iconic, for good reason. We did a double-cut bone-in rib-eye that was prepared, paraded thru the dining room, and then carved for sharing. The king salmon was very fresh, but none of us were a fan of the braised bitter greens and leeks that accompanied it - skip this in favor of king elsewhere. As for desert - while the chocolate torte and tiramisu had great flavor, we all agreed the preoccupation with cocoa nibs was distracting to the mouthfeel of both dishes. If I had it to do over, I'd probably do more small plates and wrapping up with pasta and doing desert elsewhere. BUT gorgeous experience, on a gorgeous summer evening and still very glad we went!

I had been wanting to try Il Nido for a long time. Reservations are in high demand, and I had to…read morebook as soon as the reservation window opened. We visited as a party of two. One thing I found interesting was that for reservation times between 6:00 and 7:00 PM, the only available option seemed to be patio seating. The restaurant has a parking lot, but compared to the size and popularity of the restaurant, it's fairly small. Finding a parking spot on a nice day in Alki can be challenging. The patio setup was a bit surprising for a restaurant of this caliber. As you can see from the photos, it felt more functional than inviting, and I expected a warmer atmosphere. Service was excellent. Our server was attentive, efficient, and communicated well throughout the meal. For food, the focaccia was the standout. It was fresh with a crispy exterior and a soft interior. The texture almost reminded me of something between bread and a croissant, and the olive oil served alongside it was excellent. The burrata was just okay for me. I wasn't a fan of the amount of spicy sauce on top, which overpowered some of the cheese's flavor. The tagliatelle was very good and met my expectations. The seafood special that night was salmon. It was cooked well and nicely prepared, but at $55 for a 6-ounce portion, it felt quite expensive. For dessert, we ordered the tiramisu, which was served in a mason jar. We were told to dig straight down to get all the layers in each bite, but it was served with a spoon that made that a little difficult. The presentation was unique, but the eating experience felt somewhat awkward. Overall, the food was good, service was excellent, but the pricing felt high for what we received. Between the limited seating choices, challenging parking, and decent-but-not-amazing food, I left feeling that the experience didn't quite match the hype.

It's a little high-end with all the bright lights and neatly placed grocery items but looks smaller from the inside. To be honest, I only came here to try The Cookie, which was something my friend recommended for me for the size and taste of their large cookies. We decided to quickly drop by here specifically for that, and I grabbed myself a chocolate chip cookie with nuts. Server behind the counter was very friendly and helpful, especially when I asked for another bag to keep the warm cookie fresh. For this cookie, you gotta split it between two days, or among more than that if you're health-conscious. There's so much sugary taste yet you never really get tired of eating it. The chocolate chips and the nuts complemented each other while also taking away some of the taste that the excess sugar in the cookie otherwise has. Cookie also melted in my mouth so well that I was tempted to ask my friend to drive back for another.

Our server was incredibly friendly and professional, we never really waited for anything throughout our meal, and even after needing more time to pick out drinks they seemed to come back at exactly the right moment to take the order. The food was fantastic. Their menu isn't huge, but there's some good variety. We shared the Baby Bok Choy salad-ish dish, and I can't describe how good it is--the description in the menu is right about flavors, and they come together perfectly. We also tried a mussel-based cassoulet, which was very good. For entree, we shared the pork chop--best pork chop I've ever had, and something I recommend trying, even if you don't normally that kind of item. There's enough on the menu we're interested in coming back to try so we'll probably be back in a couple weeks. So good.

The chile verde pork is so good, my wife, who primarily orders vegetarian, goes for all their variations, quesadillas being her favorite. This weekend is Valentine's Day, and while I am not with my beloved, George and Erika shared a sample of their new menu items, chilaquiles (heart shaped for the holiday) - both chili verde and chipotle. The other item was a stack of tres leches pancakes, with fruit. While all were delicious, I liked the chipotle chilaquiles the best. Good enough to make me consider mixing up my wet burrito with salsa macha in the future. So, we just came back from Playa del Carmen Mexico, where we hoped to have some over the top Mexican food. While breakfast was great it wasn't enough to outshine Fire Tacos. A waiter at one restaurant summed it up well. Everyone in Mexico makes good food, but the best of the best succeed in the US. Fire Tacos is right on Alki beach and in the summer, they pull up the garage door side walls and have an open air restaurant! Get there! You will be happy you did! Say hi to Erika!
