Quaint little place with great breakfast! It was bigger than we expected. There was a another dining area in the adjacent building. The staff and owner were very friendly. We looked up places to eat on Yelp and almost didn't go because someone posted 1 picture of the outside and captioned it with condemed building. Let me assure you, that was not the case. This is definitely a local place. Staff and customers knew each other. We took that as a good sign. Also, the place was packed - or we thought so until we were escorted in to another room to be seated. My initial excitement turned to slight disappointment when we got seated. no longer did we have the wonderful scent of a kitchen and banter of locals but instead had overflow tables in the ice cream since of the building. It smelled like basement... damp and musty. The waitress was friendly and brought us drinks and food quickly. There was no rush in ordering and she answered all our questions without an attitude. I had a eggs, pancakes, and sausage links. My daughter had just pancakes and my wife had a veggie omelette. Even though we were seated away from the main room we saw the waitress enough to get regular coffee and water refills. Our food showed up rather quick too. The pancakes were thick and good! Don't know what kind of batter they use but whatever it is it works. The eggs were cooked correctly and my wife enjoyed her omelete. A different waitress came to get our plates when we were done. We ended up chatting about our dogs during that time. Always nice to meet another rescuer. I think if we were in the main area I might have given it 5 instead of 4 stars. There is only street parking but we easily found a nearby spot big enough for our truck and RV trailer. A previous review mentions that the place is very small and we were concerned that we might have a wait, but we needn't have worried. We arrived at 10:30 on a Friday morning and 3 of the 7 tables were open. The waitress invited us to choose a seat. She got our coffee and water immediately and took our orders - Philly cheese steak omelet for hubby and ham and swiss omelet for me. Both were delicious and accompanied by potatoes and toast. We had a group of 20 that was looking for a place to have brunch. I called Better Half on Thursday and they were more than willing to accommodate us for Sunday morning. The wait staff was wonderful - pleasant, courteous, and helpful. A couple friends and I stopped at Better Half Family Diner after a weekend at Cedar Point. I wanted a local place to grab breakfast on our way out of town and found Better Half on Yelp. I was pleasantly surprised when we walked in; it's a charming, small-town diner style restaurant with two halves - one main dining area and then a side room that also has an ice cream shop! The menu is large for such a small place - lots of lunch options, omelettes, pancakes, build your own breakfast, etc. We all opted for breakfast sandwiches - two on croissants and one on English muffin. We also ordered a couple sides of American fries and a blueberry pancake. Our server was friendly and the place was full of local regulars. Our food came out quickly and was hot and delicious! My English muffin sandwich had two fried eggs, cheese, and sausage (you can pick sausage, ham or bacon) and was really good! The croissants were a bit dry but they were pretty big. The potatoes were crispy and perfectly done. The pancake (ordered blueberry) came out plain, but my friend said she didn't think the server heard her correctly. And she devoured it, so I guess it was good! The ketchup at the table tasted a little off (too sweet) but they also had hot sauce so I didn't mind. We were looking for a good brunch place and this diner rated highly among the suggestions. It's close to downtown but I dont think I would walk here from downtoen. The restaurant has two smallish rooms for people to eat and has a very family feel to the diner. After that comes the food. I believe I had the country fried steak with eggs, sausage gravy, and skillet potatoes. Right from the get go the sausage gravy was fantastic and very thick and rich tasting, I poured it on everything. The eggs I got were over medium and solid. The skillet potatoes were really good too which was a surprise since normally I'm not a big fan, usually breakfadt potatoes are doused in peppers and arent good on their own, these weren't like that at all. Finally the country fried steak was very crispy and not too gamey but flavorful. I also didnt feel the meal was particularly greasy either which was a nice surprise. Even though I grew up in Sandusky, I had never been to the Better Half. I saw an ad for it in the Register, then looked it up on Yelp. It had very good reviews and I found those were quite accurate with our experience. The service was great and the menu had many choices. I went for my standard at any breakfast place- 2 eggs, home fries, bacon and wheat toast. The food was excellent and prices were very good. We will be back for sure. The next time I will get the Big Breakfast, which is a combination of eggs, home fries, bacon, sausage, cheese, mushrooms, green peppers and onions. read more

Food is just average. My daughter got chocolate chip buttermilk pancakes and they were sour some how. The sausage gravy is from a can but the biscuits were tasty. The big breakfast was good but the potatoes really dried it out. My toast was not at all toasted. Flies and gnats had invaded the diner. Good luck! read more

This family diner looked very promising from the outside: Nice downtown location, kitschy decorations, and lots of locals. However, after seating ourselves and ordering (mostly omelets), our waitress disappeared for 30 minutes. 10 minutes later, 2 omelets arrived (there were 6 in our party). 5 minutes later a third came, and eventually our entire party got their food (approximately 40-45 minutes after ordering). When we enquired about the wait, the waitress reminded us that "breakfast takes 45 minutes" and that "you should know that". The food itself was acceptable-- I've had much worse, but I wouldn't drive out of my way for it. We asked to see a manager before we left and they gave us a very slight discount on the meal while explaining that "complicated" orders like ours just take a long time to cook. This, however, did not explain how two separate groups of people managed to arrive after us, be served promptly, eat, pay their check, and leave prior to us receiving food. The bottom line: Cedar Point tourists beware! If you are not a local, expect slow service and a bad attitude. read more
