The service here was perfect. I needed a massage and facial but I didn't need a stuffy, fancy place. The exterior made me wonder if I was in the right place--it's just a house on a small street. Debbie Elert was my therapist, and she gave me tips on stretches and things I could do to improve mobility and relaxation. She was the right mix of down to earth, caring, conversation, and silence. I will definitely come back. The appearance of the place really isn't what made it such a good experience--again, it's just a house. But it's simple and caters to what really matters. Don't get me wrong, I've had many fancy spa experiences that have included the atmosphere and all the complimentary saunas and such. Those are good too, but Better Living Day Spa is more about the individual and their healing or relaxation journey. read more

Today was my first time visiting Better Living Spa. I had a great experience, feel incredibly relaxed and I'm completely ready for a nap when I get home. I carry tension in my shoulders/upper back. While I know with my training and school schedules my body gets tore up I'm confident that I will be feeling better sooner than later by incorporating massage into my life. This is one of the hardest reviews to rate with the star rating system, because there are so many factors. First I think it is only fair to give a run down of my expectations, then walk you through my experience. I expect the atmosphere to be the first thing that hits you, serene, mild, and calm. I expected to smell faint lavender, patchouli, or something aromatic, I also expected to walk into a welcoming bright (by natural light/natural looking light) reception area. Their logo make me think there may be potted bamboo or bonsai trees inside. So here's my experience. A couple of years ago I received a gift certificate for a 30 minute massage, facial and manicure. Yesterday I called to see if I could use the gift certificate - Yes, it was still good! They also allowed me to switch it to 1hr massage + manicure. I was thrilled to book a same day appointment b/c my back has been killing me. Soon after the phone call, I hopped in the car, it was easy to find, & centrally located in midtown - great location! The exterior appears to be a house converted into a business (pretty common in Tallahassee), looks nice out front and they have off street parking. When I walked in I was hit with the scent of something implied industry cleaning products were in use (it smelled like a hospital to me) it was apparent that the inside of the home had not been redesigned for business use. The entrance is a foyer with a hallway to the left with a bulletin board displaying the professionals licenses (required by law). It didn't look like anything was going on in the room to the left at the end of the hallway, so I walked forward (short hallway) that opens into a narrow sitting room facing a plate glass window with sliding glass doors on either side. Turned right and at the end of that room was the reception desk. There was a huge piece of the ceiling hanging down with evidence of water damage (likely recent damage, due to the storms we've had) - but I couldn't take my eyes off of it. I didn't understand why nobody had climbed up and cut off the dangling mess while waiting for repairs. That aside, the staff were lovely. They were all kind, and soft spoken, which is nice. I'm generally bombarded with requests left and right from co-workers and my child - so it was in stark contrast to my reality on the exterior of the building. I was seated in the sitting room overlooking the backyard - which was lovely. There was a nice patio on the other side of the glass, and the landscaping is definitely the best feature of the layout. Reagan Simpson introduced herself to me, and took me to massage room, I discussed my ailments and gave her a medical history run-down, then had an hour deep-tissue massage. She was great, and worked out all the knots I'm been carrying around in my back. She's knowledgeable and was able to discuss and explain anatomy in an understandable way. After the massage I returned to the sitting room where I met my "nail lady", I feel terrible for forgetting her name. She was sweet and took her time, which helped me "slow down". I move around fast all day, and having someone not rush through the manicure helped remind me that I should relax and enjoy the quiet time. This was a much needed escape from my routine, and I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate future visits into my schedule. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of ambient lighting, it's dark inside just like you would expect from a home of this era. It would require electrical upgrades, nice fixtures and dimmer switches. The walls are painted with glossy paint which makes it feel institutional. I have loads of recommendations for improving the "feel" inside, but they would cost money... and the impression I got from the moment I realized the inside was not overhauled from it's original design, is that maybe the owner just rather make the space work, instead of creating a spa. This is the part that takes away from the spa experience. It's the house. It can easily be upgraded, but the business opened 17 years ago and it hasn't been done yet. I do maintenance on rental properties and my own home so I hope you can understand why the piece of hanging ceiling is really sticking with me. This place needs some serious feng shui. read more

Love, Love. Love Shayani! This gal can rock a massage - she found spots I didn't even know existed! That's saying a lot because I've had more than my share of massages - multiple countries, cultures, and methods. She knows what she's doing and is always cognizant of what your body needs. I've read a bunch of the reviews and I felt the need to share my experience with this local business. I've only ever come here for massages, but I have to say it is the best place for massages in Tallahassee if you need deep tissue or have severe muscle tension or back problems like I do. I've been coming here for years because consistently they have the best massage therapists. I can go to any one of them and receive an excellent massage that helps to relax me and relieve pain. The atmosphere is not that of a luxury spa, but has a soothing, homey atmosphere. It's small, quiet and a little kichy and that just makes it charming to me rather than tacky. The services are superior to every other place I've received a message and their massage services rival those of some luxury resorts I've been to. I highly recommend it! read more

I had a wonderful experience at Better Living Day Spa. I called an hour before my appointment the day before NYE, and they accommodated my last-minute request and fit me in for an Express Facial. The receptionist greeted me warmly and Debbie, my aesthetician, was lovely. Most of the facials I have had in the past have been somewhat painful and harsh on my skin. I have always assumed that my skin required that. However, Debbie gave me a very soothing and gentle facial, and I left looking refreshed with instantly improved skin. In addition, she gave me wellness tips to help improve my skin, such as drinking more water and also suggested acupuncture for other health related matters I am dealing with. There is also something to be said for the energy of the person providing your service. It definitely translates. I took Debbie's card, and saw that she also practices Reiki. I meant to ask her if she did after my service (but forgot to) and that confirmed it for me. She definitely sent lots of love and healing my way. Better Living Day Spa is the best day spa in Tallahassee! This service was a gift from my boyfriend and came with a relaxation massage and express facial. Upon arrival I upgraded the package to a deep tissue massage and they were very welcoming. Was taken right away and I was greeted very nicely by the owner. I met my massuse Debbie - and let me tell you she is heaven on earth! She was very caring and asked me about my lifestyle and some back issues I might be having and recommended me some treatments and remedies to help with the problem not the symptoms! She was extremely kind and did a great deep tissue massage. She was very personable and made me laugh most of the time. You can obviously tell she is very pasionante about what she does. What a nice relaxing day at better living day spa. I had a very relaxing facial here which included face steaming and extraction. I was provided tips how to avoid needing more facials including good sleeping habits. I enjoyed the products used. Very responsible products. I also liked the architecture in the building. I have been under a lot of stress from work, so for Valentine's Day my boyfriend got me a gift certificate from Better Living Day Spa for a deep tissue massage. The location is in a really cute location in midtown Tallahassee in a pretty small, independent building. The interior is not exactly spa like but its definitely cute and very clean. I got a 60 minute massage and it was soo relaxing, the ambience of the room was wonderful and the LMT wasn't too rough or too light with her hands. Very happy with my experience and I would love to go back to try the hot rock massage! It was fairly busy when I went on a Saturday morning so I would definitely recommend making an appointment. read more

I'm giving this place only 1 star because the masseuse and the nail tech were nice. Spa was in a renovated house, not very clean, and a bit tacky (curtains/furnishings). Pedicure chairs were reg. chairs and an electric basin of water was put on a platform for my feet. I was charged $40.00 for the pedicure and POLISH WAS AN EXTRA $15.00. OPI Polish is only $10.00 for a whole bottle! Not a "spa" at all. No recommendation here!!!!! read more

I was in town on business from Fort Lauderdale, and scheduled an hour massage deep tissue. I was blessed with having Shayani as my therapist. I have back issues and at the time, was struggling with a stiff neck from stress and probably also the drive from Ft. Laud. Shayani asked some detailed questions about what was going on with my neck, and she worked on me in ways others have not in the past! I feel that this speaks to her knowledge and expertise about the human body. She was gentle given the sensitive area of the neck, yet also went deep enough for my specific problem. My wife visited here with her mother a while ago but forgot to finish the review. So I'll finish it but keep in mind the review is a few months old and hopefully some things have changed. Very soothing music and atmosphere. Mother enjoyed herself greatly. The main services provided are massages. The have body waxing, manis and pedis. The lady doing the manis and pedis is very nice. My mother in law ended up getting a massage. So over all they had a good time but it's a bit pricey and she wished that had a better set up for mani and pedis because they had to put there feet upon the worker since they did not use the pedicure chairs with a feet rest but regular leather chair with no feet rest. Also used a portable foot bath or a bucket with water (the kind you get from a store for do it yourself) so it had it's fallbacks. Hopefully they update that area. But my wife mentioned she didn't think manis and pedis were their main seller. read more

I took my mom there for mother's day for a day of relaxation for both of us. It was a very quaint establishment and everyone was extremely pleasant and accommodating. Liz and Chantelle were great. I was extremely tense and she really knew how to relax the muscles that were stressed the most. I was impressed with their service. The atmosphere was calming and relaxing. My mom is definitely going to visiting again and when I visit again I will most definitely make an appointment. I feel great!! read more

My friend & I went to this spa for a relaxing massage. I was surprised when we arrived to a ranch style house that had been turned into a spa. I did not have an enjoyable experience for several reasons. The room was entirely too cold to the point where the woman had to get heating pads to place on me. The walls and doors were not sound proof; I could hear the noise from outside such as the cars speeding pass. The employees were entirely too loud, I could hear all of their conversations. The lighting in the room was not dim enough therefore didn't make the atmosphere any better. The woman giving me the massage was quite talkative; I expected her to get the hint with my very short responses, but she kept talking. The massage was $75, but I rather pay more money for a more pleasurable experience as the only thing I could think about during the entire massage was how much I couldn't wait to go back to my go to spa in Michigan (I was only visiting Tallahassee for the weekend). This was the first and last time I go to a spa inside of a once upon a time 3 bedroom ranch house. This was more of a $30 experience rather than a $75. read more
