Dr. Natasha Lee has been my family dentist for decades, and I truly can't say enough great things about her. She is absolutely amazing and hands down the best dentist! Dr. Lee can truly fix anything, her work goes way beyond what you'd expect from the average dentist. She is extremely skilled, caring, so kind, and her level of expertise is exceptional. She genuinely listens, is incredibly mindful of patient concerns and needs, and always makes you feel comfortable, heard, and well cared for. The entire office is wonderful. Alexis at the front desk is so friendly, kind, and responsive, she always gets back to me and makes every interaction pleasant. Cessalyn, the patient coordinator, is good at helping me schedule appointments and making sure everything runs smoothly. Jess, Dr. Lee's dental assistant, is also fantastic and provides excellent support during dental procedures. Everyone here is super friendly, caring, and easy to work with. I returned for a cleaning which I was way behind on, and the hygienist Claire was very gentle since it had been a while. well, previously this office had a super terrific dentist Dr Joy but apparently Dr Joy moved to San Diego, so there is no Dr Joy in Mudville! So last night i saw my right lower gum was scary swollen and needed a dentist! i texted this office and Mo Response-- and i called twice this morning and they are Understaffed and couldn't fit me in til OCTOBER-- today is August 28. -- So The Moral of the story is MOVE ON DONT WASTE YOUR TIME-- Find another dental office elsewhere. Wonderful, kind, and caring dentistry. Most people dread going to see a dentist... but with Dr. Lee and her team, I look forward to every visit. The office is clean, the staff is friendly, and their Covid health protocols are top notch. Also, the Inner Sunset location is great too. My husband and I are both patients/clients of this practice. He sees Dr Lee and I see Dr Joy. We picked this practice because it is very close to home and had good reviews, and we have been amazed at how great it is. The staff are kind, attentive, and efficient, and both dentists are very skillful with really high standards. Sadly we have had to have three crowns and a handful of fillings between us this year, so we have had ample opportunity to experience Dr Joy and Dr Lee's expertise. Their work is very thorough and precise, and they explain everything in detail using digital photos taken during one's visit. We're very impressed. They also have a lot of small touches that make the experience more pleasant - I was given a neck pillow and a cozy blanket during a long procedure, and was frequently asked if I needed a break. I had to reschedule a procedure twice but very short notice due to family/health emergencies and they were very accommodating. They also manufacture crowns on site using 3D printing technology, so you don have to wait for days wearing a temporary crown. read more

I was way overdue for my cleaning... whooops. When I made my appointment the scheduler reassured me that wouldn't be a problem and was very professional. Dr. Joy took the time to really go over my history, took technologically advanced pictures of my teeth that she immediately showed me (before and after cleanings), she never judged and was always positive. I've been back since my initial "deep clean" and the hygienists and staff at this office are thorough, gentle, kind, and personable. You will always receive a written quote before you arrive for any appointment, including how your insurance plan works out. The woman who greets you at the front is efficient and welcoming. And they use online scheduling that reminds you via email and/or text (depending on your preferences). There's street metered parking, or it's about 5 steps to the N Judah. They really aren't misleading with a name like "Better Living Through Dentistry." My smile is back and brighter than ever!! read more

These people ROCK!! I went in to get a "State of the Nation" on my teeth and they served it up solid. They make sure that even the "dentistry challenged" peeps feel comfortable and get with the program. Fortunately I am a great believer, card carrying member "I drink the dentistry kool-aid" kinda guy. For those of you that just can't get into the dentistry THANG, have no fear, this office is all about making everything as comfortable, pain-free and care oriented as possible. I recorded an unusual first at Dr. Lee's office: trading restaurant and foody tips with the hygienist. Went a little something like this: Hygienist: Yeah Hayes Valley has some great places. Do you ever go to Suppenkuche? Moi: (insert saliva sucking sound) ssssssshhhd blarterbrrsssssssss shhhhshshshs YES...sshyshsssh. Hygienist: They have really good food. Moi: Ssshshshs uh-huh (head nodding). Hygienist: So where else do you like to go out in terms of food. Moi: Ssslllrrrrrppp shhhhssssssrrrrplllgorp. HAYES VALLEY ssshhhh! Hygienist: Oh Cool. I JUST came back from my first appointment with Dr Lee, and I was so impressed I wanted to write. I have teeth that easily get cavities. So I've had a lot of dental work in my life. She did THE MOST comprehensive exam I have ever had, hands down. She was really nice, explained everything to me, and prescribed me special toothpaste to help with my cavity prone teeth. I was/am concerned about money, and she's going to get back to me with a plan of care for my husband's teeth and mine that work from very necessary, to less necessary so that we can take care of some now, then save for the rest. I'm going back for a cleaning tomorrow. If I could give her 6 stars, I would. *** Update*** 11/25/10 I just went for my second appointment. I was super cold and Dr. Lee noticed and her response was: "Oh! You should have told me! I'll turn up the heat and get you a blanket!" 3 minutes later I'm ensconced in a soft blue blanket and hear and feel the heat turn on. No joke. Also, my crown feels great. I predict that no one will ever give Dr. Lee anything less than 5 stars. If someone does, then that person has either never been to another dentist and has no real reference for comparison, OR, more likely, they are dangerously, criminally insane. This is unquestionably the best dentist office in the world. It has A) the best dentist, 2) the best equipment, and finally, no doubt the best staff ever to work in a dentist office, and one more thing, the artwork on the walls is consistently interesting. I've been going here since Dr. Lee started the practice and continued to go even after moving out of the city. I would continue to go to see Dr. Lee if I moved out of the country. Why not? International flight fares can be purchased, but a PERFECT dentist is a once-in-a-lifetime find. I know from hard experience just how bad a bad dentist can be. A mediocre dentist is no great shakes, either. A good dentist is a rare gem. A PERFECT dentist is blissful, wonderful, a huge boost to one's overall quality of life. I've been seeing Dr. Lee for a few years now, and the bottom line is that she's an excellent dentist and she REALLY cares about your teeth. I recently had a dental emergency over the weekend and had to page her - something I do not take lightly as I believe everyone has a right to time off, but I was in a ton of pain and would not have made it through the night without her assistance. Besides that, her staff is always very friendly, helpful, and thorough. She also uses state of the art equipment, which was a huge change from my previous dentist. Dr. Lee is the sweetest and most intelligent dentist I have ever met. Her office is amazing with all the state of the art equipment including digital x-rays and give you 90% less radiation than the old school xrays which made me happy to know. After reading my post here, Dr. Lee wrote me a detailed 3 paged letter detailing her diagnosis and treatment recommendations; including photos of my teeth and journal articles. While I truly appreciate this outreach, I confess my eyes glazed over by page 2. Let me just clarify on here that I do not question Dr. Lee's thoroughness and professionalism. I still can't drop over $2k on my oral health at the moment and have chosen other options that is good stopgaps. I can't imagine ever going to another dentist. Dr. Lee is fantastic. It says something when you actually look forward to your dental appointments. It's such a total contrast between her office and the dentist I dreaded visiting for the first 20 or so years of my life. Dr Lee definitely has that "The dentist office of the future- TODAY!" thing going on. They have the digital x-rays and you can watch Discovery Channel Planet Earth on the monitor during your appointment. I think its also the only dental office that actually puts good music in their disc changer. They even started doing text message reminders for your appointment which is great for forgetful people like me. Outside of having all of the new technology and such, its really the people here that make it great. I know Dr. Lee teaches at UCSF and I think it really shows in the way she explains what's happening with your mouth and what she's doing as she works. I've learned alot about my teeth and how to best take care of them over the years. Emily is aces too. The whole staff is just super warm and friendly. We havent found the dentist since we moved back to the city. We came across Better Living through Dentistry while waiting to get some drinks from Jamba Juice. I called for the appointments for my whole family. Ada was friendly and was easy to work with when it came to making accomdations (I wanted my kids to see the dentist before school starts). Favorite dentist ever. I was living in the Inner Sunset just as Dr. Lee was opening Better Living Through Dentistry. After months of procrastination, I finally made an appointment. She was awesome(!!), and so is the rest of the team. My favorite story from past visits is when she told me I had to take out my tongue ring because I was grinding it against the back of my teeth. Dr. Lee, at the time, had a tongue ring herself and was -- as a fellow mouth jewelery wearer -- super hesitant and apologetic for giving it to me straight. At the end of the appointment, we took a picture together with our tongues sticking out, and I took out my tongue ring right then and there. I've sent a handful of people her way, and all have nothing but good things to say. Dr. Lee & her team really are the best. I'm making my next (admittedly long overdue) appointment today!! read more

I first visited Dr. Lee based on a recommendation from my co-worker approx 5 years ago. I moved to NYC 3 years ago and still have her as my primary dentist. Why would someone retain a long distance dental relationship? She is that good... Often I was surprised at the gadgets she would produce from visit to visit. My work life balance is pretty terrible so when I showed up for a filling hungry and exhausted, imagine my elation when she introduced this comfy tooth wedge that propped my mouth open for me. Imagine taking a nap during a filling! That is how comfy she made it (although she prob wouldn't recommend sleeping during her procedures). It's cool to know your dentist is actively pursuing the latest tools in her trade to make the experience much better for her patients (it's right in the name of her business) Ever had your teeth cleaned to Depeche Mode? I've been going to Dr. Lee and crew since they were recommended by my hometown dentist in Sacramento (she happened to work with him) who I had been with for over 20 years. As sad as I was to switch, it's been an incredibly smooth transition (not to mention a much shorter drive!) Dr. Lee and her staff are extremely considerate and exercise a great deal of care in catering to each patient's individual needs. The office and front desk staff are great as well, including their reminder system (via Demand Force). My only suggestion is that they update the video options you can watch on the overhead monitors while your mouth is being worked on! read more

Wow! Dr. Lee is awesome. I was referred to her by my childhood dentist in Petaluma, who I was afraid of leaving for so long...but, it was an emergency. I was so lucky to get in on such a busy day, right before Christmas when they are totally booked. They made an exception for me in such short notice, and I really appreciate it. Dr. Lee absolutely amazed me. On my first visit, she and her assistant gave me a fast, thorough, really informative examination. The last time I had a dentist measure my gum pockets (some don't even bother), it was a long, tedious, painful process. She got through it in half the time and I barely felt a thing. She answered all my questions, and also chatted knowledgeably about the health psychology and public policy of dentistry. She told me I needed to take better care of my teeth, but instead of giving me a long list of things to do, she discussed each option in detail and talked honestly about their relative importance. I had three cavities, and had to come in for a second appointment (this is probably due to the 18 months of wildly incompetent dental care I got before I upgraded from the HMO). I was expecting it to be pretty grueling, but she and her assistant were astonishingly fast and sure-handed -- they did three fillings in less time than it takes some dentists to do one! And they let me see their photos of the hole they'd drilled in my tooth, which was very exciting. They were also polite and patient when I had to ask them to stop momentarily so I could check my email and handle an emergency at the office (which made me feel like a serious d-bag, but I had to do it). There was a little bit of confusion about my insurance and how much I was supposed to pay, but the receptionist took care of it quickly and competently. Every aspect of the experience was wonderful. Dental work at BLTD isn't cheap, but I think it was worth it! read more

I've been listening to several friends recommend Dr. Lee for several years now. Due to a variety of issues (money and fear), I was not able to get it together enough to go to the dentist. Luckily for me, the stars finally aligned and I made an appointment to see Dr. Lee. After several bad experiences, I have developed a huge fear of dentistry and they really went out of their way to make me feel more comfortable. Best dental experience I've ever had, ...HANDS DOWN. ...With that said... I have had PLENTY of dental work my life and its to the point where now I'm having to get stupid root canals. I had to get one in LA while I was visiting friends and had 3 weeks to get a crown. Low and behold, I was able to go and get one on the SAME visit made out of porcelain! Dr. Lee was awesome and the procedure was painless. They even have little TVs that keep you entertained with beautiful places in the world where you'd probably rather be than sitting in that chair! SIX STARS is what Natasha Lee and her professional and friendly crew deserve. They are the absolute best in dentistry. She was referred to me by a friend and I have since referred several coworkers to her because she is nothing short of the best dental experience I've ever had. I am inspired to write now because I just saw a mediocre dentist and staff in Baltimore (my new student dental plan does not cover work done in California; otherwise I'd be back in this BLTD office) and was reminded of how unique Natasha's practice is. Everything is clean, method products are used for the hand soap (i heart method), revolving local art graces the walls so you have something interesting to look at (like a mini art gallery), and all her staff remember you and treat you like an individual, not just a paying client in a time slot (like other places). I really like how Dr. Lee takes the time to explain to you what she is going and what is going on with your teeth and oral health. She really knows what she is doing and cares that you understand what is going on in your own mouth. I really appreciate that. She was also quick to spot the "5th" root that another dentist AND endodontist had missed during my previous root canal. With a quick referral to a great endodontist colleague of hers, I had that taken care of. No more pain. I wish I could make an appointment at BLTD now, but I'll have to wait until I'm done with school. Until then, be good to my favorite dentist and make an appointment here! read more

I always have been nervous going to the dentist & they showed me a whole different side of dentistry. I've had my fair share of dental drama in my life, so I very much appreciate having a dentist that I trust. When I first saw Dr. Lee about 2 years ago and had more cavities to fill than my insurance would cover, she and her team helped me to prioritize the work over a period of time to maximize my coverage. They also offered to help set me up with a very low interest (possibly no interest, I can't remember) payment plan. Since that time, Dr. Lee has really helped me become proactive about taking care of my teeth, to the point where I had NO cavities at my last visit (for the first time in 5 years)!!!! Beyond the good doctor herself, there are other reasons to like BLTD. Her hygienists are friendly and skillful (they are also often dental students that Dr. Lee mentors, which is sort of cool), the receptionist is helpful and organized, you can watch Planet Earth while you get your cavities filled, and there is a Morrissey poster on the wall in one of the exam rooms. read more

Dr. Lee is nice enough and has a good way with her patients, but beware her diagnoses and recommendations (and in the end that's what probably matters most). I had been given a clean bill of dental health by two dentists over a number of years prior to moving to SF, but upon seeing Dr. Lee, I was told that I had two cavities and needed another office visit to fix the problem. My prior dentist had seen me 6 months before my initial visit to Dr. Lee. Needless to say, I have never been back and my current dentist did not come to the same conclusions. I have at least 3 friends who have relayed a similar experience. If you want a personable dentist, Dr. Lee would fit the bill nicely, but on the downside, she is quite aggressive in her management style. One can only hope that the motivation for this type of management is based on a significant improvement for the long-term dental health of her patients. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Lee for, gosh, maybe 15 years. As soon as my wife and I moved back to SF we registered to be her patient again. She is simply inspirational as an entrepreneur and as a clinician. Her team is cohesive and talented and super nice. Her tech is cutting edge. She's a professor of Dentistry and a mentor to young dentists. If you're lucky enough to be treated by her you will never leave. When her hands are working I can just sense their steady expertise. She has perfect touch. She's extremely knowledgeable. And is very friendly and nice. I laugh every time I see her, she's got a great sense of humor. If you can laugh and feel relaxed while someone is in your mouth, and just know, that no one else will give this level of expert care.... well that about sums it up. I would keep up the superlatives but I don't want wait any longer for appt's so get lost.... :) read more

Beware: you may get unnecessary procedures, and might not get your teeth cleaned! While I agree with other Yelpers that Dr. Lee's offices are beautifully spa-like and that she has a lovely bedside manner, I do worry that she is too focused on novel technologies as a means of increasing the amount that she can bill insurance. I made an appointment for a routine cleaning. When I have seen other dentists, my experience has been that they do a dental exam and a routine cleaning during the same visit. After an hour, I had had individual digital X-rays taken of each of my teeth, followed by detailed ultrasound and video diagnostics, but my teeth still had not been cleaned! They explained that initial appointments are for diagnostics only, not cleaning, because they need to determine whether a "deep gum cleaning under anesthesia" is "needed". This sounded like an invasive and potentially risky procedure, but fortunately, Dr. Lee did not recommend this in my case. My concerns about excessive procedures grew when I was told that I had 6 new cavities (I have only had 2 in my life). Dr. Lee told me not to worry as my insurance would cover 90% of the cost. I hesitated to make the suggested repairs without a second opinion, as I was worried about potential pain, and the need for subsequent maintenance. Three dental check-ups later (from separate dentists in Boston and SF), I still haven't been told that I have a single cavity, so I can't help but worry that Dr. Lee is procedure-happy. read more

1, 2, 3. here comes dr. lee!!! i once asked dr lee if she bought the practice "better living through dentistry" from a dentist who retired. she said that she didn't, she bought the liquor store that used to reside on 9th and irving right where i now go to have my teeth photo'd, scraped clean, and then rinsed. my friend referred me, and her friend referred her. i love going to the dentist, now. natasha has all the latest and greatest gadets. large lcd's screens, digital x-ray machines, watercooled ultrasonic vibrating watercooled teeth-scraping-doohickeys and more! i just went and got a check-up, and i can't wait to go again! what a clean feeling. read more
