TLDR: Worst experience I've ever had at a dentist office. Consistently being hampered with upselling and extremely rough handling/cleaning by dental hygienist. Floss was jammed with extreme force into my gums and was given a snarky response about how my teeth were not clean. I've been to Dr. Tobar's office twice and they were by far the worst experience I've ever had at a dental office. I chose her office because of all the wonderful reviews but my experience couldn't have been more opposite. The first time I had a cleaning the dental hygienist was the roughest I have ever experienced after telling her I had one bad experience with a rough cleaning. We finished the cleaning and after I left I had realized that she had forgotten to polish my teeth (fairly standard after a normal clean). I thought maybe I had one bad experience the first time around and given the great reviews, I decided to go through with my already scheduled second appointment about 6 months later. I had the same dental hygienist and although the cleaning felt a little more gentle this time around, she clearly rushed through the polishing and then proceeded to jam floss down my gums with extreme force. After we were done with the flossing, I asked her "is it normal to floss that hard", she then proceeded to give me a snarky response stating that my teeth were never clean when I came in and that she was in a rush to the next appointment. Being in a rush to your next appointment should never take precedent over a client's experience and this was exactly what happened. I checked my phone after we had this exchange and we were a whopping 2 minutes over. The office consistently tried to sell me on a 'deep clean' stating that my insurance would cover 90% of the cost but that it would still cost me $200 out of pocket for this 'deep clean'. The office was very pushy and continuously asked me to schedule a deep clean every chance they were able to while I was in the office. Needless to say, I will not be coming in for a 'deep cleaning' or ever again for that matter. read more

I tried setting up an appointment with her office ...she was so busy that took almost six months to see her. .Today finally...Her office is by itself with no other doctors sharing. Very clean & modern up today. Sharon hygienist was very pleasant. She took x-ray of my full mouth & spent time cleaning my teeth. She did a great job. Afterward Dr Tobar walked in. A great first experience! Finding a dentist is so hard and with Covid, time flew by without finding a new one. I saw a dentist pre-Covid that I didn't love and that made me avoid jumping back into the process of finding another one. After my experience at Dr. Tobar's office, I finally found a good dentist! It was a warm environment when I checked in and the appointment started right on time. Paperwork was done beforehand online which was quick and easy. Office was clean and easy to get to. Shannon, the hygienist, was so great! She was really warm, explained everything she was doing, and was thorough but gentle. She gave me some helpful tips and didn't make me feel nervous or ashamed having not been to the dentist in a while . Dr. Tobar was great too. She gave time for me to ask questions which was really nice because I feel like I'm always getting rushed out of medical appointments. Much appreciated! Am I seriously writing a review for a DENTIST!? Yes, Dr. Tobar and I were clearly meant to be just like me and my OBGYN! Never common for me to "like" my dentist since they're the ones who purposely cause pain to your teeth. Yes it's been some time since my last dentist visit and I have my reasons. I was in horrible pain and needed immediate relief. I was referred to Dr. Tobar and lucky for me the woman answering phones could hear my desperation and painful tone she squeezed me in that very same day. Office location is convenient and parking was easy. Office is super cute and cozy, I love how they have a mini fridge for the thirsty people like myself. I'm greeted by a friendly face so sweet and warm, almost forgot I was there to be tortured. As I'm sitting there my hands start to get clammy; must be the nerves...the door opens...and yet another friendly face! Here comes the scary doctor...NOT AT ALL! I'm introduced to the cutest lil doctor (I'm a big girl) who looks like she's my little sisters age. I'll be honest I was a little taken aback with how young she looked. It made me doubt her skills and experience. Dr. Tobar let her work speak for itself. She immediately sought out the root cause (no pun intended) and provided me with a temporary solution. She was receptive to my worry and anxiety and treated me appropriately. Normally I'll hear something like "oh come on don't be a baby" but Dr. Tobar offered assistance and right there I knew I was in good hands. The energy felt safe and from there I closed my eyes... I came back for a few other things and again Dr. Tobar showed compassion and empathy to my fear and anxiety. My most recent visit is why I'm writing this Yelp. I got a call from Marisa (woman who answers phones) who kindly informed me that I was due for cleaning. She worked around my schedule (so cool she remembered my work hours) so that it was hard for me to say no. I'm the type that'll make an appointment and forget I even made one. Marisa is definitely on the ball when it comes to reminders. Noting over the top and annoying, one simple text to confirm and another saying how excited they are to see you on the day of appointment. What Im about say next will blow your mind...my teeth cleaning was pleasurable and satisfying! Dr. Tobar took her time with my pearly whites and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. I've been going here for a year now and have had 3 teeth cleanings. Dr.Tobar is so attentive and really listened to my needs. The whole staff is welcoming and warm and always will thoroughly explain what they are doing. I changed primary dentists to Dr. Tobar and I'm so glad I did. Dr. Tobar is incredibly kind, patient and understanding. Her voice is very calm and instantly comforting. I came in to her office for a check up and a second opinion on my root canal over a year ago. My old primary on Noriega said I had 10+ cavities to treat.. also a root canal. Unfortunately, I got a second opinion AFTER my old primary attempted to treat the root canal twice.. but i'm thankful i did before treating 10+ cavities. I have decent oral care imo so it didn't seem right to be told I have 10+ cavities. Dr. Tobar is actively monitoring my root canal.. (just recently referred me to a endodontist since i'm now having occasional symptoms) and told me i only had one cavity which has been treated. Dr. Tobar recently did dental bonding on 3 of my front teeth that was causing smile alignment issues.. and she did a wonderful job.. Such an amazing job i want it done on one last tooth to finish my smile transformation after my invisalign. I really like this dentist, i never have any complaints or leaving with a ill feeling. She's very conservative in the sense that she knows what she is capable of. I moved to the States from Australia and haven't seen a dentist in over two years. I spent a long time researching which dentist to go to. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Shannon, the registered dental hygienist. She gave very clear concise instructions and explained exactly what she was doing which I appreciated. She spent almost an hour cleaning and detailing my mouth and teeth. She was very gentle and I was comfortable. Dr Tobar has a very lovely demeanor and she went over everything and I felt like the whole experience was smooth. She was also very gentle and explained what she was seeing and examining. So I decided to give this practice a shot due to a reference. This is for the front office. I showed up and a woman in medical gear was apologetic and said the Hygienist cancelled. I said when? The office managed said, " we called twice.... this am and last night". I checked my phone and I did miss a call on my phone on the day of the appointment. Nothing last night on our cell phones or home. She said they didn't have any other phone numbers, but I know I have them emergency numbers. They had to have an email too. I filled out all the forms. Dr. Tobar and Joyce did X-Rays, a cleaning, and a new patient exam today, and they were so thorough, kind, and professional that I really enjoyed what is normally an unpleasant experience. Dr. Tobar took the time to show me what was happening with each of my teeth on X-Rays, explained everything she and Joyce were talking about, and offered advice without ever being judgmental. My appointment was on 10/18/11 (a little less than two months ago), I wrote this review a little earlier but didn't have time to complete it until now. This is my 5th/6th review on yelp, and it's my first 5-star review. So I checked various sources and I discovered that the service sector in the US accounts for about 80% of GDP. The US is largely a service-based sector. I'm mentioning this because every time I conduct a transaction with a business here in this country, I generally get shitty customer service from the businesses I do deals with. Either the results are disappointing or the attitude/demeanor of the employee/employer offering the service is unpleasant. Living Social featured Victoria's dental practice and there were two deals that were offered. The first was a zoom teeth-whitening treatment for $175 and the second was a dental exam, full-mouth x-rays, and cleaning for $90. I opted for the second option (dental exam, full-mouth x-rays, and cleaning) because I had already purchased a zoom teeth-whitening treatment from a different dental practice months before that I wanted to take advantage of later that month. So I wanted my teeth cleaned. I walked in the office and they knew I had a Living Social voucher from when I told them over the phone when I made the appointment. I then filled out the required forms that new patients always have to fill out. There were a few women around the front desk and I didn't know who was who or who was going to check my teeth out, and then Victoria introduced herself and I was eventually seated soon after. In order for me to give this place 5 stars, I would've had to have each procedure (dental exam, full-mouth x-rays, and cleaning) not just completed, but completed very well. The dental exam was performed throughout my one hour stay from the time my teeth were checked out. X-rays of my teeth were taken for record keeping and also to evaluate the condition of my set and to see if there were any cavities. And lastly, she along with a dental assistant, helped clean my teeth. Victoria got me in and out in an hour which was convenient for me because I had another appointment for something else at noon. During my one hour stay there she was very patient and attentive not only with my dental needs but with my questions. Her and I talked a lot about my teeth from what toothbrush, toothpaste, and mouthwash I was using to advice she'd give me about which toothpaste I ought to be using. And one of the things that impressed me with her was when she asked me if I was using any teeth whitening toothpaste because she observed that the enamel of my teeth was alarmingly receding. I told her that I was and then she advised me to stay away from those kinds of toothpaste. I want to also add, for the people using vouchers on any of these social websites whether it be Living Social or Groupon or Bloomspot or whatever, you can tell whether the business you're dealing with is deserving of a 5-star rating based on a number of characteristics: -Were they snotty or unhappy when they took your voucher? -Did they give you (the customer) any less than excellent service while they sat you down and performed the tasks? -Did they either upsell their services, surprised you by charging you covert fees for work done, or put you on-the-spot and force you to cough up more money for things you didn't feel you needed or wanted? -Etc. Thankfully this practice did none of that. The price for a cleaning over there is $99 and I'm hopefully planning to go back sometime in the spring to get another cleaning. Positives: -Speedy stay (no more than an hour) -Attentive, responsive AND patient staff (to service AND questions) -Fairly modern equipment -Gentle and welcoming staff (I know "gentle and welcoming staff" sounds redundant, but if they were unpleasant in any way, I would've indicated it here) -(And for the guys) Beautiful Latinas (I can feel the anger and rage from the female readers now) Negatives: (Nothing that really stood out in this visit) read more

I admit, I am a little apprehensive about dentists. I've had experiences in the past where they try to upsell me or pressure me into getting treatments I don't need. Not the case here! I bought a zoom whitening treatment off one of those deal sites, and fully expected to be pressured and sold as a new client at every turn. Not so - Dr. Tobar's staff, and Dr. Tobar herself, are relaxed, courteous, and treated me as if I was any other patient (vs. one who was just scrounging for a good deal.) They are extremely thorough in all they do and check in with you frequently to make sure they understand your needs and that you're doing ok. The zoom treatment itself require 2 appointments - 1 to do the assessment and create "molds" you can use for upkeep afterwards, and a second appointment to actually perform the whitening. The first took about 30 mins, the second took about 1.5 hours (20 mins each for the 4 zoom sessions, plus some set up and cleanup). I was well prepared for the treatment - they recommended a special toothpaste to use before the treatment to combat sensitivity. I was skeptical, but it really worked! I've had zoom treatments before where I didn't use the toothpaste, and this time did not feel any sensitivity at all until the very last session. What impressed me most? Her modest little office, though small, really knows her customer base and is decked out with little technological upgrades. An ipad was used to fill out my new client form, and I received a reminder text to confirm my appointment. In a city full of tech snobs, these little touches are big wins. The only downside, sadly, is her location - I don't live anywhere near this area and it's a bit out of my way. Luckily, there's plenty of street parking out in front to make my commute just that easier. Good job Dr. Tobar, keep it up! read more

I had not gone to a dentist for some time, mostly, because I never found one I liked enough to return to, I was skeptical, that is until I went to see Dr. Tobar. She is patient, incredibly personable and easy to talk to. When working on my teeth, she took great care to be gentle, paid close attention to all cues of my comfort level, and made a clear effort to listen to all my concerns. She took all the discomfort and worry I had about going to the dentist and turned it into quite a pleasant experience. I plan to use her for all my dental care needs.
