Alex came to give an estimate for sewer lateral replacement. He scanned with the singing wand to locate our street cleanout and determined it was under a retaining wall. He said they would dig around and find it there. Fortunately I got 2 additional quotes that completely disagreed with Alex's conclusions: 1. I had no street cleanout. The house is 100 years old so never had this. 2. The sewer lateral runs to the other side of my yard. This quote really me stressed and wondering if I had multiple sewer laterals (I don't). Really could have gone better. I used Better Rooter in August 2021 to get a sewer lateral replacement. They would have to remove some concrete next to our home to access the sewer. I had confirmed multiple times, first with Alex, and then later with Reyna, that while they made no guarantees, they would "try to match" the color of the concrete. This is maybe on me, but it seemed like a simple matter, so I didn't press further beyond that. So I was disappointed when the work crew informed me near completion of the job that they were not going to be able to match the color of the concrete: They didn't bring any equipment or materials to color match. I called the office to clarify the service and contract, and Reyna told me to have them complete the job, take a picture, and they would reach out to see if we could reach a resolution. I agreed, in good faith paid for the service, and they wrapped up the job. When I followed up with photos by email the following week, the CEO, Veronica, responded tersely and dismissed my concerns. I guess I learned my lesson, but it could not have come in a less professional way. read more

After getting a few estimates I choose Better Rooter because their price was reasonable and their yelp ratings are very good. I was not disappointed. Alex showed up the same day I called to give me an estimate. He said that they would replace my lateral sewer line using the trenchless approach. On the day when the work was to begin they discovered that they were going to need to change to open trench using cast iron because my lateral line was too shallow but said he would do it for the same price even though if was going to be more work. They did the job in one day and left the job site clean. They took care of the permits and the certificate of completion that I needed to apply for the City of Richmond's sewer grant program. I call them to repair 3 toilets 1 toilet only need it to be tightened so he did a good job with that. The other 2 toilets he told me needed a tool and he "d me a price once he started the repair work he lets us know that the toilet will work if we get another part. My husband told him to go to home depot and get the part this need it he did that and now I have 2 out of 3 told us that actually work the 3rd toilet is having the same problems had except it's worse now. I don't want to call them back because it seemed like he wasn't too happy when he was asked to go and get the part that he needed to repair the toilet. read more
