NIGHT AND DAY!! I knew turf would make a huge difference, but this transformation was insane. I did my due diligence reaching out to different turf companies for both pricing and expertise. We have resisted the idea of artificial grass for 12 years, fighting against nature and reality to try to get an 1,100 sqft lawn to stay alive and healthy beneath a redwood canopy. After several friends told us great things about Jorge and his team at Better Than Real, we finally went for it. First, they are extremely professional and reliable, they show up on time, and their bidding process is simple and straightforward. They were able to start our project just days after signing the contract, and they did the entire project in just 3 workdays including their standard process of removing the old lawn, digging down 3", replacing it with based (which they compact with a machine), laying down gopher wire, and then installing the grass. When Jorge came by today for the final walkthrough, he asked me to try to find the seams (the grass comes in 15' wide rolls), but it was impossible to find them. The actual grass product has come a long way in recent years: we went with "Royal," one of their best sellers, which has great color (rich green on top, and brown down toward the "roots" to emulate real grass) and feels comfortable on bare feet/legs. I'm just so happy to look out the window and see a gorgeous, pristine yard that requires no precious water. In conclusion, we are very happy, and I can't wait to give away my lawn mower. read more

Jorge met with me to go over my small dog run project. Even though it is a tiny area (under 90 sq ft), he gave me all the time I needed. I had a couple of follow up questions which he responded to promptly. After getting two other quotes, I decided to go with him. Fortunately, he was able to fit my little job in quickly. The crew of three guys came on time. They were professional and respectful of my property and clearly new what they were doing. They had the old concrete patio jacked out and the area dug out in record time. I watched the whole process carefully because I need to know what is under the ground around my foundation! I rarely if ever right negative reviews, but Jorge was so rude, I feel like my experience should be public. The work that Better Than Real Artificial Grass did was excellent and the 7 workers who did the actual work were all great as well, but the owner, Jorge, was horrible. He was rude and confrontational, yelling at me that they were not going to replant the plants they were taking out. When I told him that it would have been helpful if he told me that in advance so I could have lined someone else up to to do it, he said he would take my deposit and leave. He basically yelled at me for 15 mins. I wanted to get him off of my property as fast as possible. Luckily the team that did the work were all wonderful. We bought nearly $2000 of artificial turf from this place for our landscaper to install. Upon unloading it, we discovered it was one foot shorter than what we had ordered and paid for. Unfortunately, this made it about 4 inches too short to cover our space. When I called the company to report the problem, Jorge drove out to inspect the issue (because he didn't believe me). He measured the turf several times - with a measuring tape, with a string line, again with a measuring tape - and kept saying it doesn't make sense because he measured it out this morning and it was correct. He did finally agree to replace it and (only reason for the two stars), he did have one of his guys drive out a new correctly sized roll. However, he never took responsibility, he never apologized. His measuring mistake was not only inconvenient (disrupted the middle of my work day for several hours to figure this out), but also cost me several hundred dollars in extra labor to have the landscaper stay late to complete the install. When I mentioned the extra costs and asked if he would consider a small discount/credit (to offset my increased costs as a direct result of his mistake), he got upset and said "I don't know what happened between when you picked it up and now!" and "I don't want to argue with you!" and that "If this is how you want to be then we don't have to replace it." Seriously? Like I would deliberately remove 8 inches of turf just to spite him?! Everyone makes mistakes and I am very forgiving of this. But not taking responsibility for your mistake and then turning the tables and making it seem like I'm the one at fault and he's doing me some huge favor is dishonest and unprofessional. I don't know if this is just how they treat all their customers but I do wonder if this is how he would have treated my husband. I would like to think this was a one off/ bad day thing but every aspect of my and our landscaper's interaction with this company was disappointing. The person who answered the phone when I first called to ask questions was grumpy and dismissive. They wouldn't let me place an order on the phone even with a credit card (in person only) and even the landscaper said they gave him attitude when he picked up the material. Also their website says the turf is American made but they confirmed on the phone that it's all made in China. Normally I wouldn't have ordered from such a place but a contractor friend and our landscaper had used the company before so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I would not buy from them again. And neither will my landscaper. read more

Just had artificial turf installed in my front yard. It is a large area, and quite the investment. We are very happy with the finished project. It took two days -- one for prep of the area and one to lay the turf. Both days were very long for the excellent crew that did the work. They were right on time to start, even after a one day rain delay. The prep was done to perfection and the clean up at the end of each day, was excellent. The second day the turf went down. Where day one was all physical labor, day two was the tedious hands and knees stretching, trimming and seaming the turf followed by adding the infill and lots of brooming and grooming to fluff. We had the artifial turf put in 3 months ago. It is mashed down in large spots all over the yard.We don't have kids or a dog, we just basically go out to rack leaves, and we use the right kind of rack. I called to find out if we could do anything about it. The person on the phone shut me down, Just told me that is normal wear. We paid a lot of money to have this put in and he offered NO help. We wanted a makeover of our back yard. It was mainly filled with dirt and weeds, with a pool and raised garden beds. We wanted to get some nice artificial grass for our kids to play on. We requested quotes from three companies, including Better Than Real (doing business as Rainbow Landscape). I got in touch with Jorge and he was extremely responsive and showed up when he said he was going to. He offered suggestions and was not pushy at all. We had an old buried concrete curb, which one company didn't want to touch. They originally scheduled us for two days to install. The first day was rained out, so they said they would bring an extra helpers for the second day. They were able to knock it out in one day. They were careful to lay out some tarp so as to protect our front pavers. They did a lot of the little things right too, including replacing our hose nozzle after using it. The only critiques would be to plug back in the pool pump plug (they used the outlet), and some of the workers left some minor trash in our front yard after their lunch. Their final price was very competitive and fair, and it was about $3000 less than another company. They seemed to have more samples to choose from than other companies as well. We would use them again in the future, and just may if we decide to replace the front lawn. read more

We took so long to decide to get artificial grass. If i had only known it would go this smoothly after making the decision i would have done this so long ago. German came and gave us an estimate a year ago. He was so patient. The crew came this morning (6-3-2013) I had not watered the grass in 6 weeks. It looked rugged. At the end of the day our "grass" looks and feels amazing. They even moved a medium sized citrus tree to another location. I thought it was gonna be lost. We planted that citrus tree when we moved in with our daughter. These guys are special. The main reason for all this grass is we are getting a Service dog for our autistic son.
