Dr, Mitchell also allowed us to see the diabolical cancerous tumor, under baby's tongue, after the procedure. This solidified that we did what was right by kitty, and not allowing her to suffer any further. No cold tables and blank walls for your pet's final breath. One reason we left our last vet was because they kept trying to sell us on every test and unnecessary thing our cat didn't actually need. In the annual check-up she detected a heart murmur and "gravely sounds" in my 6 y/o cat's lungs. She said she didn't think there was a need for additional testing, and told me to keep an eye on his respiration rate - count it when he sleeps and call them if gets fast. I did that, and over the next few months called their office on 2 different occasions to report respiration that was just over the "fast" side. The person that answered the phone took the information and I was told there was not a concern. I brought my boy back for annual exam. The night before he had a bad coughing fit. I was told they did an x-ray and that his heart was enlarged and he was in hear failure. I was there over an hour waiting and knew something was wrong. I was sent to Blue Pearl in Southfield - told they had vet cardiologists there. (NEVER go to Blue Pearl - terrible!) Discovered the next day that Veterinary Cardiology Consultants had an office only a few miles north of Troy Vet Hospital! At Blue Pearl they diagnosed my boy with congestive heart failure / hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). This was approx. $3,500 visit - after spending about $700 at Troy Animal Hospital. I followed-up with Vet Cardiologist Consultant's for my cat's care. In the following 11 months I've spent another $2,000 - $3,000 on consultations, echocardiograms, fluid aspiration, monthly medications, supplements, holistic care. My boy was in advanced heart failure and died two days ago. I've learned along the way that in that initial annual check-up at Troy Animal Hospital in November 2017 that the heart murmur and gravely sounds detected in his lungs were early & strong indicators of cardio myopathy developing. I wasn't even offered the option of additional diagnostic testing - I would have done it! Instead told she "didn't think it was necessary at this time." If testing had been done and treatment started then he could have lived a long and healthy life with condition management. Instead, his quality of life deteriorated fast - he died at only 8 y/o - and it cost me approx. $7,000 in that 11 months along with so much stress, sadness and grief. My heart is broken. My boy was one of those special cats - the kind even people who hate cats love. He deserved better. I understand mistakes are made in life but this was inexcusable. I called twice to report fast breathing afterwards and they weren't concerned!! Is this a matter of being too busy to give proper attention? Why not suggest testing to rule out a potentially deadly condition developing? I wish I had never stopped going to my previous vet who specialized in cats. My boy would be alive.

Dr. Noble is amazing - she takes excellent care of our animals, and of us, and explains things in a way that actually make sense to two non-doctors. When we nearly lost our older dog when she had some significant health issues, Dr. Noble was always fair but positive and understood that we were a complete collective mess. I never felt judged while struggling with decisions or sobbing uncontrollably. Several years later, my dog is the happiest and healthiest she's ever been. I'm glad I was always presented with both thorough information and time. Besides the two doctors we've seen, the office staff and techs are freaking amazing. My younger dog is terrified of other dogs (except his older sister) and Westgate always schedules his visits so that no one else is in the waiting room. They make sure that any movement of other dogs happens while he's in the exam room, and let me get him out to the car before coming back in to pay, buy food, schedule additional visits. This small touch prevents the epic meltdowns Knuckles is known to have. They let us bring in all three (two dogs and a cat) when everyone is due for stuff. This is both highly entertaining and a yeoman's task. We are more than satisfied with Westgate and can't imagine ever going anywhere else.

I offered to take her out so Dr. Kemp could examine her but that woman (dr.) declined and clearly had no interest in continuing the visit as if I am not welcomed. She seemed eager to end this session ASAP. Prior to taking my cat in I discussed my concerns over the phone with the vet tech and also mentioned I am looking to get flea treatment as a preventative measure they seemed excited about it thinking I will buy from them, but as soon as I mentioned to Dr. Kemp that I want a written prescription so I can get it from chewy as I have a coupon, her tone shifted. Finally after 2 minutes of talk, she said she will get me the prescription for gabapentin and revolution and disappeared for 25 minutes, just so she could drag out the visit and collect her fee for no service provided. I could hear her chit chatting with the staff. Then finally the vet tech came with gabapentin med, and told the front desk that the woman (dr.) would not prescribe Revolution because my cat had not been weighed, even though I had already offered to take her out for an exam and they had every chance to weigh her. They wanted me to come in again for follow up appointment while still charging me for no service. Total time with the doctor was 2 minutes. I am a seasoned cat rescuer and a foster parent with a fair share of problematic cats and vets. This is the worst form of greed and incompetency I have ever experienced. Edit: the cat carrier had 3 zipped sides that completely opens, if they really wanted to get her out they could have done so but they did not choose to.
