Decided to spend the extra money to have a service like this performed at home, rather than a cold and informal vet office, as our sweet kitty was more than worth it. A compassionate team that is very helpful with the scheduling on the phone. Never rushed me through anything. Dr. Mitchell arrived within the scheduled time frame, and was absolutely wonderful. Explains every step of the procedure and allows questions. Our baby was at home, in her favorite place to be - our back yard - listening to the birds and enjoying the sunshine. Dr, Mitchell also allowed us to see the diabolical cancerous tumor, under baby's tongue, after the procedure. This solidified that we did what was right by kitty, and not allowing her to suffer any further. No cold tables and blank walls for your pet's final breath. Sadly, using the word "great" when you need Crossroads hurts a little, but I understand that it's just part of the Yelp rating system. And I never thought that I would be using this service twice in seven months June 2022 and Feb 2023). But each time, the vet took her time to explain the process, what might or might not happen. It was just so much easier on my little terrierists to keep them home, with the bed and blanket that they loved, with their sisters at their side. Such much better than a cold and sterile vets office that the dogs hate going to. Dr. Ellen was very patient, loving to both my girls at home last week, gaining their trust by sitting on the floor, little snacks in her pocket. We recently had a horrific experience with Crossroads. We booked euthanasia and cremation for our pet that came to a total of $910.00. We had a 1:30 p.m. appointment and our pets health started deteriorating rapidly. I texted and emailed Crossroads at 06:00 a.m. and advised them of the situation and requested an earlier appointment if at all possible. I received a response stating the doctor (Dr. Mitchell) could not make it to our residence prior to 1:30 pm. I responded that I understood and thanked them for attempting to provide us with an earlier appointment. Our beloved pet passed away in our home at 12:30 p.m. I advised Crossroads (Patti) that our pet passed and received a text that she would reach out to me. Crossroads called me back and advised me that since euthanasia was no longer needed the doctor would not be coming to our home and we would have to call and figure out cremation services on our own. Patti stated they would refund our money back but unfortunately we would have to set up cremation and pick up on our own. I was shocked and disgusted with Crossroads response. After hanging up the phone I had to call around to different businesses to find somewhere to take my deceased pet while my wife and kids cried and said our pet doesn't deserve this. I was able to take our pet to Pet Passages in Livonia, MI and they were wonderful to work with. I would advise anyone who is considering using Crossroads to avoid them at all costs. read more

It's been six months since we said goodbye to our best friend, Dylan dog, who at 13.5 years old came to a point where it would be cruel to let him suffer longer. He never liked the vets office so I always knew I did not want to take him to a place he feared for the last moments of his life. I made a note when the time would come that we would reach out beforehand, get to know the process, and schedule a home visit to put Dylan to sleep. It all happened so much faster, on a Friday morning I made my first call to Ellen, we were desperate, the time had come quicker than we expected and she was so flexible and reassuring, promising she would come at noon. She arrived with so much kindness, patience, gentle instructions, options for us to grieve and say goodbye how we needed, and empathy. She is truly a special person for what she does and this is her calling. She let us be at our deepest moments of sadness and celebration as we laid on the floor around our boy and held him as he died painlessly in his sleep. Our vet recommended Crossroads for our senior cat, but I was told that the Dr. doesn't service our area, not because of distance but because we live in Detroit (albeit near 8 Mile and Woodward, one block south of Ferndale which they DO service). It has been a little over a week that we lost our sweet angel to cancer. After visiting our primary vet for a lump that we discovered in our collie's neck, I called Crossroads to discuss hospice and the possible crossing of the rainbow bridge for our girl. I met with Dr. Ellen and she walked me step by step through my questions and possible outcomes for our baby. My primary vet performed numerous tests and could not come back with a reason for the lump. At the age of 13, I did not want my dog to go through surgery due to her age and background. We hoped that a spectrum of medications and instructions would be the step in the right direction. When I called Dr. Ellen's office, I received prompt, caring and compassionate service and advice. We made an appt. with Dr. Ellen and her quality of life testing, her examination of our dog, and her advice made us feel we were on to something in the right direction. Unfortunately, the tumor continued to grow at a very rapid rate. I finally came to the conclusion we had to do what was best for our baby no matter how hard it was for us. I called Dr. Ellen's office on very short notice and her staff did everything they could to make this decision easier by their caring nature. Dr. Ellen arrived the next day and was gentle and very kind during this difficult time. Dr. Ellen took care of everything and at the end of the procedure,and even comforted me with a hug. Later that night, I received an email checking in on how we were doing. And this week, I received a sympathy card from Dr. Ellen and her staff. I did not want my baby to cross the rainbow bridge in our primary vet's office, but in our home. I did not want her stressed out or uncomfortable. This was the right decision for my family, and I am very happy Dr. Ellen was the hospice vet we chose for dog. She is a true caring professional and I would refer her anytime, to anyone. read more

We recently met Dr. Ellen when we had to have our dog put to sleep. A friend of ours recommended her and I'm so glad she did. Dr. Ellen came out to our house and we were able to have our sweet old guy euthanized on the comfort of his own bed. She was very gentle both with him and with us. She explained every step of the process and even let him eat the entire box of treats she brought. She made a very sad event as nice as it could be. She made a home visit and lengthy consult for our beloved senior dog Barnaby.And even hand delivered some much needed medication to our home. She was able to guide us to the best care for comfort and pain relief for our little guy ,who sadly did have terminal cancer. When we made the decision to let him go, she was so supportive and reassuring of this difficult decision. Barnaby was in his own home, on his favorite couch and on his favorite bed while Dr Ellen gently and easily performed euthanasia . Barnaby literally just quietly fell asleep. I was very upset the day I knew I had put my sweet kitty down, so I asked my mom to help me find someone that could come to my home. I feel so thankful that she found Dr Ellen, and that she was able to come to my home that evening. I wanted to write a review for Dr. Kristin Kender much sooner, but it has taken until now since I knew it would bring back tears from the loss of my cat (Sinclair) of over 16 years. As difficult as it was saying good-bye to him, I was (and still am) so grateful for Dr. Kender. After numerous attempts to get a vet to come to the home (and no one willing to help me), she was the only one who made the time the same day (in the evening) to come out. Sinclair would not have made it through the night. Dr. Kender was so kind, compassionate, and calming. We lost our beautiful Lexie last Friday. She was an 114 pound Alaskan Malamute. Our Lexie got sick very quickly and was in great pain when anyone touched her. Our regular vet wanted her examined. It was not possible to move her, so we got Dr Ellen's phone number from Faithful Companion of Royal Oak. From the first time I spoke to Dr. Ellen, she was kind and caring. She asked me all the needed questions. She actually was at our house within 30 minutes-we were lucky she had another appointment down here. She talked to Lexie to reassure her before the exam. She tried to examine her while causing her as little pain as possible. She talked to me and my husband what her finding were. She listened to us and answered our questions. She gave us as much time as we needed to make our decision and to say goodbye to our precious girl. Lexie's passing was very peaceful and it seemed pain free. Dr Ellen was so kind and caring. She did not rush us-she gave us all the time we needed. Her priority was taking care of Lexie, and then us. I can never thank her enough for what she did for us. She is the best. read more
