One year ago (when I was 30 years old) I was diagnosed with DCIS Stage 1 breast cancer. One of my biggest fears was how my breasts were going to look after everything. During my consultation with one of the doctors at Cedars Sinai - I expressed how important to me that my breasts look as normal as possible after a double mastectomy. He then referred me to best reconstructive cosmetic surgeon ever - Dr. Betty Kim and because of her, I have the best confidence any woman can dream of. The pictures speak for itself. My first consultation with Dr. Kim changed my spirit completely. Before meeting with her, I googled pictures of women after their reconstruction and I was terrified. I was really nervous at first. The receptionist checked me in and then I was called back into a room where I met Dr. Kim. She's a great listener and I explained to her that I work at a pool party club in Las Vegas and that I would be continuing to work throughout my surgeries. She was very understanding, funny, yet professional at the same time. After my double mastectomy, I had to stay two extra nights in the hospital and Dr. Kim saw me every morning to make sure everything was okay. Expanders were put in. Then every other week, I would drive down to the office and she would inject saline to stretch out my skin. I did this about 4x and it was time for the swap. During that same time, she also did fat grafting and she took fat from my thighs and inserted it into the breast area. They looked so natural! I did another round of fat grafting and now my breasts looks amazing - I'd say they look better then before the mastectomy. I have very minimal scarring and I always get compliments. No one would ever believe all the surgeries that I've gone through. I've already referred another woman that was going through the same thing I was - she saw my pictures I posted post surgery. It's been almost 25 years since I had my double mastectomy with Dr. Giuliano (Cedars Sinai) and reconstructive surgery with a former plastic surgeon who no longer practices. Since then, I have had 2 implants rupture. Mostly from wear/tear and the saline implants simply aging. I met with 2 surgeons in NYC, where I now live and 1 other renowned surgeon in Beverly Hills. Of the 4, I liked Dr. Betty Kim the most. Not only did she came highly recommended by several doctors (including my oncologist), I loved her approach, results and thorough explanation of options. It made the decision very easy. She supported my decision to replace the implants with saline and she performed fat grafting which was a new concept for me. I am beyond pleased with the results. I am grateful. I surrendered many years ago about replacing them for aesthetic reasons because I was never thrilled with how I looked. I'm sorry I did. Her technique and ability to make saline implants look so natural is unbelievable. And her stellar team of women (Mitzi, Erin, Karen and Lauren) who provided excellent communication and follow up care made the experience from scared to great. I had bruising in my abdomen from fat grafting and before Dr. Kim cleared me to fly home, she suggested I get a lymphatic massage. I wasn't aware of it until I had my appt with Lilian Magna of Detox Spa. It helped tremendously with the bruising and the mild soreness. Lilian shared that Dr. Kim came for an appt herself not sharing that she was a doctor. It surprised Lilian with all the questions Dr. Kim asked but she did to understand the benefits and how it can improve a patients journey to heal. I think it is incredibly thoughtful for a surgeon to provide suggestions, ideas and resources for after care. These are my 3rd set of implants. And these look the BEST! My wife had surgery last week from Dr. Kim and even though I wasn't the patient, I lived through it with my wife. As a quick backstory, my wife had a very bad surgery two years ago with another group of doctors, so we were very careful in who we selected this time. If I could give Dr. Kim and her staff (Nicole was also a super star!) 10 stars I would. She listened and then followed up with every detail from pre op to post op. Sent us to the most caring specialists for outside opinions and then hand selected the surgical team at Cedars. Wow! All with a steady hand and a smile. It could not have gone better. THE WORST. she screwed up my first breast reduction, and years later when i went back for a fix, her entire office did a disaster. I arranged for a week off work and the morning if my surgery she's running THREE HOURS LATE. Then when i because upset because i didn't have child care to watch my child later than 5 pm she cancelled the surgery entirely. Not only that, she was RUDE and totally unprofessional. Didn't care that i had arranged for a week off work, didn't care about my childcare situation, was just a cold, uncaring, unprofessional horrible mean person with zero empathy. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. Oh, and she ripped the IV out of my arm and told me to leave without so much as bandaging me. I have to say I was referred to Dr. Kim in 2018 by my oncologist, first of all what a great Doctor! I immediately felt comfortable with her, I was scared as I was about to have a bilateral mastectomy and she was going to do the reconstruction the same time. The outcome of my breasts were amazing m, I was actually shocked to see how good they looked. I have continued to see Dr. Kim for my routine follow ups and she is always a pleasure to talk to! Dr. Kim is absolutely AMAZING! I had a breast reduction back in June 2012 -- Now we're in November 2012 and I could not be happier with my results. I know a lot of the healing depends on each persons individual body type, but my healing has been phenomenal and my scars I am sure willl fade very nicely because of Dr. Kim's work. I had an amazing experience with Dr. Kim. I had a breast lift and augmentation to deal with asymmetry and sagging after having three kids. I was very self conscious and saw two other surgeons and was completely turned off by their rote approach, before someone recommended Betty. She was attentive and thorough and always took her time to answer my questions and her office staff was equally as diligent and attentive. After our two consults I had this feeling that I hadnt been clear enough about the size I wanted so I did a little photo collection and sent it to her with a note. She did exactly what I asked for. Now I understand why reviews on professional services are scarce on yelp -- You have to let the whole world know what ailments you have in order to describe your level of satisfaction. That being said, I had a milia (clogged pore) on my upper eyelid that was getting out of hand, and in no way was I going to pluck this thing out myself or trust anyone but a pro with sharp instruments near my eye. I'm not the one to write reviews especially negative ones, but when it comes to my baby girl that's a whole different level! I was referred to Dr. Kim by our pediatrician, so I automatically put my trust into her because we LOVE our pediatrician(Dr. Scott Cohen). My daughter had a dark birthmark on a side of her knee about an inch long and we were advised by Dr. Kim that it would be best to have it removed, because a tiny thin scar is way better than a dark round birth mark, but what she didn't advise us about is that everything could go wrong and the scar might not heal well and end up looking even worse then the actual birthmark! God I wish I have never touched it! And unfortunately that is what happened to my little girl! I'm livid about this situation and furious about how the office and Dr. Kim has handled it! everyone should be informed about how the stitches are done, what type of stitches and that your body might not tolerate them, and that it might take months and months for the stitches to dissolve. I'm not used to setting up an appointment to see a doctor and waiting 2 hours to see them! I had a 10 am appointment and was called 3 times before to show up 15 early to fill out paperwork. I arrived at 9:45 and waited until noon to see the doctor! I understand doctors get delayed, but communicate with the waiting patients so perhaps they can be given a chance to take a walk or do something in the meantime while the doctor is busy. The worst part of the visit was when the dr came into see me and didn't have the courtesy to apologize for the extended wait time. It was as if nothing had happened! Dr. Kim came highly recommended by doctors I trust, and she has not disappointed. From my first meeting with her she was friendly, informative and very patient with the myriad of questions I had. My procedure went smoothly, and she was available after hours the couple of times I did need to reach her, and she was always friendly and patient, even late on a Sunday night. My follow ups with her have been much of the same. The office staff are all very nice and professional. 17 months ago I started the process for a panni. She cancelled two appointments and by the time I saw her, about 6-7 months elapsed. I had not sought treatment for the rashes as I had zero benefit from the drugs. As I had not had treatment for 6 months I was denied. She refused to help me appeal even though the delay was her fault. It took me two months to appeal it and it was approved. It took 5 months to get scheduled(give or take) One week before surgery she called me. We had a disagreement over my using Lovenox which I abhor, but when she said she wouldnt operate without it, I agreed. She then said she didnt want to operate and that she was risk adverse. I have been on coumading 25 years. I was honest about it. Why did she just realize it? Lousy medical care as far as I am concerned. I had to wait 6 weeks for an appt with another surgeon and surprise! The authorization expired and I have to start over! And guess what? Because I was scheduled for surgery, I havent sought treatment for the rash ! Can we say I am going to be denied again? I figure it will have taken me two years to have surgery from the first time I contacted her. No way, no how would I refer anyone. read more

I had an exceedingly poor experience with Dr. Kim. Dr. Kim made it quite clear that she would not consider me as a surgical candidate. I asked her why was I even referred to her if I was not even a surgical candidate? She said she had not spoken to my doctor. Perhaps she should read a referral before accepting an appointment or have dialogue with her colleagues in regards to her standards. Her focus was that this was elective surgery as opposed to reconstructive surgery, with narrow standards for whom she considers for surgery. Dr. Kim is revenue focused and wants easy and profitable clients. I have had several surgeries in the past and have never been treated with the dismissive attitude of Dr. Kim. Not impressed at all. Dr. Kim is all about making money and she doesn't like to be bothered with detailed questions pertaining to exact procedures used. If you ask too many questions or say you like it another way, she'll shake her head, look at you like you were stupid and tell you not to do it then "if you have all these questions you must ask" (paraphrasing). So she basically avoided half of my questions and dismissed me when I had more questions. It also says she is board certified, but I couldn't find her name on any of the board certifications she said she claimed she was part of at the time. Didn't have a good feeling about a Dr. who only cares about the bottom line, is arrogant and just doesn't seem very passionate about the patients and work. I just received a call from Dr. Kim's office for the FIRST TIME about a bill from January of this year. [Note: Dr. Kim performed a cyst removal for my daughter above her left eye. She STILL cannot close her eye completely, but the scar is minimal and the recovery was relatively quick.] After the surgery, my family moved. Dr. Kim was aware of this, since we even planned the surgery to occur before we left town. We gave her staff our updated contact information, so they would know where to contact us for our post-op appointments. Apparently, they didn't update their system. Anyway, I received a call today about an outstanding bill. After asking if I could make a payment towards the amount (but unable to pay the full amount or even half of what is supposedly due), I was told that if I couldn't pay at least half right now, they would just send it to collections. Well, what wonderful customer service! This is after my insurance already paid thousands of dollars for a 15 minute procedure. On top of that, Dr. Kim unnecessarily brought in another surgeon to oversee the procedure - and someone out of network from my insurance that I SPECIFICALLY requested not perform the surgery in the first place. Word to the wise, be careful when dealing with this office. read more

Despite getting fantastic referrals from many friends for other surgeons, when my OB/GYN and GP both independently recommended Dr. Kim, she jumped to the top of my list. And after my initial consultation, it was obvious to me why she is considered the best by her peers. She was thorough in all of her explanations. Despite explaining medical techniques and procedures, I was able to understand everything that would happen and what to expect. She was very upfront and honest about risks and complications, expectations, recovery time, etc. I was nervous of course, but felt very well-informed and knew that I could not be in better hands. Her description of how I would feel the next day, week and month were completely accurate. My recovery was fast and painless. I explained to Dr. Kim how I wanted to look and let her make all of the other decisions as to how to get me there. I completely trusted her, and I could not be happier with the results.
