I visited Cootie Browns with 3 friends on Dec 21. As usual, the food was awesome!! But the service was horrible. Our server was Sam who never checked our drinks or how we were doing... even after our food arrived. Nothing. We watched Sam follow another server into the women's restroom 2x and then go outside while we were waiting. My friend got up and told the people at the desk we needed refills. They went outside to get Sam. I finally got pitchers from the drink station and refilled our drinks. Sam showed up at the end of our meals with 2 drinks.... for 4 people..? I explained I already refilled the drinks, but would like to go boxes. Sam turned around and walked away. We waited - no boxes. I looked behind us and saw a stack of to go boxes. I grabbed a couple and gave them to my friends. Sam returned with no boxes. I said, "I already got the boxes" Sam said, "Well, I don't really need to be here then!" Obviously Sam needs a different job or some ethics training. Whatever the case, I won't be returning any time soon. My goodness, their homemade chips are delicious and their tamales are outstanding. Their menu is a vast majority of options from southern comforts to Mexican food with mole and a really good verde gravy. Their servings are massive and they are directly outside the campus for easy access to ETSU and the dome and football stadium. I really enjoyed their food. The staff was pretty good too and they have a super large cake selection and dessert section that looks great. read more

I have gone to this location several times. I'm always disappointed in the parking. The lot was completely full with 5 open spaces for Togo orders at the front of the building. So I pull into one of them so I can eat at their place of business. I notice the Togo sign says " Togo only...others will be turned into Tin cans". I guess that's one way to lose business. This is the place in Johnson City that you have to visit. I've never had a bad meal. Pizza was amazing. Thin crust cooked just right. Turkey Cheddar sandwich has always been a favorite for me. We love Cootie Brown's BUT recently we've noticed a few changes ... why try to fix what is not broken!?? We went tonight and our waitress was nothing but kind and accommodating. The girl that sat us made us feel like we were a burden, not sure what that was about because we wanted to sit by the window. Oh well. I ordered a Prickly Pear Margarita, I asked it not to be as sweet so maybe an extra shot of tequila and less nectar. It arrived and it was sweeter than the last time I ordered it a few weeks ago lol. I felt bad and didn't want to send it back but my husband insisted. So, I said, maybe just add a splash of nectar this time and it'll be great. She brings it, and the bartender added soda water and some other stuff and now it just tasted bitter and weird. Once again, I felt bad because I can't stand soda water LOL. I told her, I wish I was asked first bc now I had to return it again, which is never my intention. Waitress was so precious and said it was totally fine. I appreciate her hospitality and graciousness. I just opted to take my extra shot of tequila and a prosecco. Waitress was sweet and asked if the prosecco was okay, which I didn't know how to take that but I said it was great and if it wasn't, then there's something wrong with me haha. We get our conch fritters which are absolute bomb but Cooties!!!! Why did you change your chips to a glorified Pringle!? We used to love the chips that were half crispy half soft, perfection. Now they are just all crispy, kinda weird. Crispy is not a bad thing but this is NOT the OG chips Cooties served in the past. What's up with that!? And now, my beloved Mexican pizza used to have the incredible carmelized garlic cloves which made me love this pizza, now they are just chopped up random tidbits. I'm not just saying this yall, Cooties knows what I am talking about. Why are you guy changing such an amazing brand you started off with? We love you guys!!! Don't change! What's going on? Anyway, just my two cents, please get some incredible cocktails instead of insanely syrupy sweet ones. This bar could do so well, the cocktails are just below average. I'm just a native Johnson City girl that loved Cootie Browns but I'm just not sure where it's going or what it's doing. It will still have customers no doubt, but don't go changing perfection! We loved you guys and seeing things change is disheartening. Again, only my 2 cents. No doubt we will be back but it won't be as often as it used to be ... but if I hear the garlic cloves are back with new cocktail menu, I'm there! Love this place. A fun relaxed vibe with great food. They've got a nice variety of Americana food, so the whole family can find something they like. Service is always prompt and friendly. I ordered the jerk chicken pizza and I didn't like it at all. I tried to eat one piece then I tried to catch the waitress to tell her I didn't like it but she kept running off. When I first got there I kept waiting to be seated and no one came around so I went to the restroom and finally someone seated me. Went to Cootie Browns Saturday during Parents Weekend. Never been here but had high hopes. Came in and had a 45 minute wait, not crazy being it was parents weekend and ETSU home game, but game was still going and several open tables available. Once we got seated server was very friendly and quick to greet us and take app orders. We tried the Maytag Chips, which were awesome! Also tried the nachos and they were enjoyed as well. Placed the order for entree's and had a very very long wait, but again possibly kitchen backed up due to game day. When food was served we noticed that half of our food was cold and others seemed fresh. I had the wings and they were ok but did appear to have been under the warming light a little too long. We tried the new location near the ETSU campus. What a wonderful surprise! The menu is the same as their 1st location. My companion had their 'fried bologna sandwich. I tried the crab cake appetizer, it was better than most places. The prices are average for my area. Service was exceptional but it was a slow Monday. Brought our out of town friends along and had a fabulous lunch on a quiet Saturday in August. Hubby enjoyed his Jerk Chicken sandwich with chips. Love the jerk sauce as a dip for the chips! I tried their Muffuletta (half sandwich) with chips. Delicious! Never had it as a pressed sandwich but will always eat it this way from now on. Cootie Browns offers a wide selection of offerings on their menu. I have tried many different selections and all have been very good. On my last visit I tried their pizza, and while they are not a pizza restaurant per se, it was one off the best pies I have ever had. This comes from a pizza snob. Service couldn't have been better on any of my visits, cleanliness has always been excellent, and while I am always too full from my meal, desserts look amazing and I am determined to try them sometime. I've been coming to Cootie Browns for years and it never disappoints! We decided to check out the new location and.. wow! Love the interior, lots of fun decorations everywhere. The parking lot is plenty spacious, they have a nice size bar top, and the staff is friendly. The black bean burger is my go-to on the menu, but the pizza is a close second! They are taking extra precautions during this time due to Covid-19 too. You really won't be disappointed dining at Cootie's! Saw some mixed reviews on this place, but decided to give it a go. We went on a Friday around 6:45 which was peak time. Wait was 35 minutes but we were able to sit in our car and wait to be texted. We were seated in one of the open window booths and it was so nice because it was cool and rainy out. On advice from some of the Yelp reviews I had read before coming, we ordered the Reuben sandwich with chips and a half Caribbean pizza. Both were out of this world delicious! Loved every bite! Next we tried the key lime pie and peach pie. The key lime was much better than the peach. although both were excellent. Our waitress was super nice and attentive. I ask the hostess for a table for one at 2:15 pm Wednesday. She is clearly annoyed that I don't want to sit at the bar. Every unoccupied booth has not been cleaned. I wait for her to bus a booth for me and watch as she wipes the crumbs directly onto the bench and motions for me to sit. In the crumbs. I wait for twelve minutes as two servers walk past my booth and ignore me multiple times. Another server stands chatting with a party two booths up the entire time, also ignoring me. Finally gave this place a try after a year of hearing great things, and we weren't disappointed. They got really busy really fast, and I could tell the staff was stressed, but they handled it very well and were all very polite and accommodating despite the dinner rush on a holiday. We only ordered drinks and an appetizer. The beer list is fantastic and my wife's mango-something margarita has her wanting to come back for that alone lol. For such a diverse menu, everything we had was pretty good. I went with the nachos. They were awesome. Teenager #1 went with a pepperoni, bacon and pineapple pizza. The pineapple came with mango and the bacon was really hard - she says. The server did tell us about the pineapple being mixed with mango when she ordered.
