It took me a bit to figure things out: you can order yourself, or you can wait. Or you can seat yourself and someone will get to you. Maybe. Ok, maybe I didn't completely figure it out! It's some combination of self-serve and maybe table service. I guess if you're in a hurry, you can self serve. Either way, the food was good and they had a great selection of beers on tap (the main reason we went here, anyway). It was a little loud, but mostly because it was friendly. Had a great experience here. I avoid gluten so glad they had 2 gluten reduced options. The bartender we had, Evil Austin, also knew his beers. Definitely listen to his advice! Food was also great. We got the sausage platter, and curry wurst fries to split. I then got a burger and the wife got a Rueben. Would have been nice if they had a GF bun, but their lettuce wrap was fine. Great food, check, Easy parking, check. Good service, check. Cool building, check. Good music, eh, not so much. If you're into really average, borderline subpar rap, then you will love it here. Because you know, when I think of a brewery that specializes in German food, I think of rap music. But I digress. The food really was very good and we will come back for that. I love how you can get half orders of the larger entrees. We sampled the chicken schnitzel and opted to sub German potato salad for the fries that normally come with it and this was a great decision. Their potato salad slaps. The 1/2 order currywurst was great too! I liked it so much I kind of wished we would have gotten the full order. Let's get to the beer. I am such a fan of TF beers that I struggle to be impartial. I tried the cranberry orange sour and it was okay. My SO opted for their Mexican lager and it was great! I switched to this for our second round. The vibes. Don't get me wrong, it is a cool place but something about it is off. It's hard to put my finger on exactly what makes this place seem less fun than other breweries we frequent. There's nothing wrong with it. For those who like short reviews: The place was good, but somewhere that asks for $3 to add cheese on the burger rubs me the wrong way Burgers were good, fries were awesome, pretzels were okay. Cider seemed to be good as well. Beware of homeless in the area. For those who like something more in depth: I have mixed feelings about this place. The building itself was pretty nice, had a great vibe, I loved the lighting and the look of everything. It was a generally enjoyable place to be. They have a fair amount of dart boards for groups to play with. They have a lot of options food wise, I ended up getting their bewilder burger(double burger), which costed $3 to add cheese. If I had known that they'd try to get that out of me beforehand I probably would've just brought my own slice. It wasn't my favorite thing to see a double cheeseburger being rung up for $20 but i understand that bar food is usually a little more pricey. It was good, and the fries were awesome(I really do mean awesome, like I just had to keep eating them) but I would say that this isn't the place I'd go out of my way to get a burger. Secondly I got the pretzels, which ran me up for $11 for 3 of them. They were good, they had the kind of cheese with them that hardens up fast so you have to eat and dip the pretzels as fast as you can. But they were good Honestly this place is just....a bar. It's no shining star of Salt Lake but you can come here and get a few drinks with some good food. First of all this location is next to the Rescue Mission so just be aware there a bunch of homeless people in the area. This doesn't bother us, but thought I would mention is as it may make some people uncomfortable in the area. We were greeted by a gentleman at the front door and immediately carded. Something I have learned on this short trip to SLC is that breweries are treated like bars and EVERYONE cards you. I have never been carded so much in my life than I did in the 8 hours on the ground in SLC. All beers are 5% or under. None of the breweries that we went to had any swag. Almost like they do not want to promote their business. It was odd. Either way, I had a delicious blonde beer in a tall glass. Good tasting beer and the building is beautiful! I've been to Bewilder 3 or 4 times, each time seems worse than the time before. My friends like going there before we go dancing next door, I like all kinds of music but NOT Doom Metal, J3sus Fing Chrxt, Go to Bewilder if you want to punch somebody in the sn0t l0cker or start a mosh pit, but I personally don't want to hear 5 Finger Death Punch, Slayer or Crypt Witch while having dinner with friends. That's the ambiance. For me the convenience is just not worth it. BTW, the food is meh, and staff was way short handed. I felt bad for our ONE server, it stressed me out along with the guttural, slugie, groans from the music. If you love Doom Metal and questioning your life choices then bless your heart, go there and show your love, but it's just not my thing. Maybe it's the musical choice of the manager or bartender that works on Friday night? College bros will probably love Bewilder. IMHO read more

Very nice brewery/restaurant close to Pioneer Park and downtown. Comfortable small and large tables inside and outside. Not a beer fan, but everyone else in our party enjoyed their choices. The highlight was the food. Half schnitzels were huge. And three types of spaetzle!! The mushroom spaetzle was excellent. Only ordered a half-portion but it was just enough for lunch. Came here a few weeks ago while visiting SLC. A friend of ours recommended this brewery so we made it our very 1st stop, which unfortunately started our trip on a negative note. Coming from Vegas where it's always hot, we're used to bringing Hydroflasks full of water with us to breweries to keep hydrated. We had no idea this wasn't allowed in Utah. Upon entering Bewilder, one of the beertenders rudely told us we could not have our Hydroflask. When we asked why, she rolled her eyes and said, "You need to go put it in your car, then you can come back in". We informed her that we Ubered from our hotel so we could not leave it in our car. She rolled her eyes again, grabbed our Hydroflask and put it behind the bar on the complete opposite end from where we were sitting. We were so confused. A second beertender came to take our order. Also rude. We asked her why we couldn't have our water and in an irritated tone said, "You have to drink the water we provide" and when we asked why yet again she sighed heavily and said, "what beers do you want"? We wanted to just leave, but we already spent money to Uber here so we each got a flight since we were already there. Unfortunately the beer was about as good as the service. It wasn't so bad that we felt we couldn't drink it, but it also wasn't anything special. All 8 beers we tried were just kinda meh. Such a shame that the beer was meh and the service horrific, because they do have a cool space. The space isn't enough for us to return though. We'll never be back and we do not recommend to any friends traveling to SLC. So many other breweries in town that have superior service and fantastic beers. PS: Thanks to Kiitos Brewing for kindly explaining to us the outside beverage laws and why our Hydroflasks weren't allowed. Fun brew pub with a wide range of delicious beers and drinks, with a good menu of food that complement their beers. Tonight, our group tried a series of beer flights, with our favorites being their ESB, Kolsch, Fresh Sesh and Low Hanging Phruit, as well as the Irish Nitro Stout. If you like IPA's, their take on a Moscow mule was unique and tasty. Food-wise, we enjoyed the giant Bavarian pretzel with beer cheese, the pickle fries and the sausage platter, with the three mustard options (whole grain, homemade German, and Dijon). Finished off the meal with a wonderful take on s'mores in a jar. Pretty lively on a Friday night and friendly, efficient service as well. We look forward to coming back again soon! read more

I was very impressed with the breweries of Salt Lake City on my last road trip visit back to Wyoming. Bewilder was one of the breweries I paid a visit to and enjoyed quite a bit. The jackalope and the cartoony nature on some of their merchandise definitely drew me in further. So much so I got myself a cap here. But onto the purpose of my visit which was to try their beer! I got their Mexican Lager. It was pretty good, perhaps not the best that I have ever encountered but good for a summery day and it most certainly was a summery day in Salt Lake City on the day I paid a visit here. Wow! YUM! I had a beer here a few weeks ago and thought my husband would enjoy- correct! We had lunch here today and the food and beer was wonderful. The fries were really thing cut and amazing, burgers were delicious, giant pretzel was better than most and the sauces and dips were delicious. The two beers we had were exactly what we hope for- nothing too out there- just quality brewed delicious beer. They have their own parking lot which is essential in this neighborhood so don't let that keep you away. read more

When I go camping, I stop in and get several 4 packs of awesome beer. the ESB and the Kolsch are awesome regulars, but if you see that Wee Heavy available you had better clear your schedule and sit yourself down to some real good feels for the next several hours! I was in town for a week and was surprised to see the brewery scene in SLC. Having lived here from 2002 to 2013, I knew it did not look this way back then. Bewilder was packed for trivia night, but the service was excellent, the food was also very good and the beer was great. Ok hear me out. I know that kids aren't allowed here since it's a brewery. If you've read my other reviews you may know that my kids are in tow 75% of the time. So what the heck am I doing here? Well I heard about their awesome waffle brunch and I had to try some on my way out of SLC. I placed a Togo order and me and the kids had a yummy picnic in the park next door. The park is just a very short walk away and what better way to enjoy a nice Sunday afternoon than with waffles in the park. I love that you can either order a pre-set combo or you can customize your own waffle creation with plenty of options to choose from. We got: Rosco - The chicken was seasoned perfectly and it had the perfect crunch. Buttermilk waffle - My kids LOVE waffles but I can take them or leave them. But in this case I'll take them! They had just the right amount of sweetness. They were crispy on the outside but fluffy inside. Usually I am content with half of a waffle. But I finished one and a half waffles and could've had a bit more!! Fresh fruit topping - these strawberries had the right balance of sweet and tart. Fluff topping- I've never actually eaten fluff because I think it's too sweet. But my son has been asking to try it. So I ordered some to top our waffles and it actually was super yummy. They have their own parking lot which is nice. There's plenty of outdoor dining but even if you eat outside you have to check out the inside. It's decorated well and they have dart boards too! Of course this is if you go without your kids. Date night if you will. So if you have kids but you still want to try this place out order Togo and have yourself a nice little picnic. Sure makes you feel welcome and keep coming back. Lots of choices of different brews and a good fit for any thing you may want to satisfy your thirst. Food is awesome! Waffles all very well done from the plain to the sweet. Definitely in my top 3 favorite breweries in Salt Lake City comfortably sits Bewilder Brewing. Their beer is brewed to the highest standards. Whats great about Bewilder is the huge selection of excellent beer, and they're constantly perfecting their craft. You can come in every week and there's constantly something new to tey and get excited about. There's definitely something for everyone. They pay attention to details. They have a taster glass for every style of beer. We have a full selection of Bewilder taster glasses simply because who else offer such a wide array of tiny glassware? Something that Bewilder is known for that even non beer lovers will enjoy is their excellent food. They do a great brunch! Their Oktoberfest menu is something to write home about! Bewilder is definitely underrated. They're slightly off the beaten path but still very much downtown. If you're willing to go slightly out of your way, you won't regret it! My only criticism is their highly under utilized patio, but hey this could be a plus if you're looking to have a patio to yourself! read more

In the few months since we last visited, things have gotten terrible; the brewery is struggling to scale up to having more customers. Last night I was double-charged with my credit card $6 despite paying my $74 bill in cash and never was given a receipt. The beer styles are not following style definitions anymore. The Irish Lager is simply a pilsner. The blueberry sour is the worst beer I've drank in 30 years. On a Wednesday night, it was so incredibly loud with trivia (probable my fault for suggesting it in my initial review) that even outside we were uncomfortable and it was difficult to order anything. Our food order was screwed up so badly they kept taking it to another table. In the end our food was cold and then they tried to bring a duplicate order later intended for someone else. None of the beers that are still good are available in cans. The older gentlemen who pours the beers is great, but everyone else should be retrained or fired. Sadly, the bigger problem are the homeless drug addicts who congregate on the corner. Bewilder has a gate that would allow patrons walking to bypass the homeless shelter by walking to the other side of their entrance and around but they've fenced it off, so you end up with 5 or 6 drug addicts shaking you down for money, or your canned beer. This is also because the location is in an industrial area and surely has super cheap rent. If they were located a few blocks away it'd be different. So really, there's little reason to visit here and you're going to be screwed somehow, particularly if it's busy. read more

I don't know if you go to a brewery for the food but so far this is not the place! They have a brand new brunch menu that I tried out and it was awful. Granted they are known for their German - inspired menu and I did not get that, but the egg scramble was completely bland and tasteless.. The bacon had a weird flavor and was totally undercooked and the breakfast potatoes had zero salt and no flavor on them. My partner had a similar experience with his egg sandwich and asked for it without tomato and he was told that was not possible. However, the service and the drinks were great, which is probably what you go there for. I would give them the benefit of the doubt and try them again, but so far I am not impressed read more

Light coffee character and not much of the toasty I wanted. On nitro so it had a good head and body. Decided on the Ruben, and liked the mountain of meat and kraut, though I asked for extra dressing because everything was a bit dry. Mid Sammy I needed another brew and settled on the kolsch...clean, light, and ready drinking, ended up being my fav! Beer was average, food was ok, but the bartender was a bit standoffish... GREAT little (okay, not so little) brewery tucked away in down town Salt Lake City! Pulling in I was impressed with the parking situation; private lots that are secure. Awesome outdoor patio seating that is covered and off the road far enough traffic is not going to roll over your experience. Inside was set up very nicely with an excellent view of the brewing operations. Bewilder has a nice selection of bar seating, hi-top tables, and low tables to fit every party size and desire. Plenty of televisions to catch the game, a few dart boards to test your muscle memory, and a great "feel" to the place in general. Now, the important part. We sampled several of the beers and I found the ESP to by my favorite. Beers here come in two sizes of the draught, big and "holy shit." The stein is legit and you will need to stretch out prior to hefting the magical glass. Food was on point as well. The chicken sandwich was amazing and I had a bar pretzel the size of a Chrysler LeBaron. The beer cheese dip on the side of the pretzel was amazing as well. Great spot!
