    Beer Battered Fish & Chips

We just went for dinner, and everything is different. Not in a good way. I got fish and chips, and nothing was the same. The fish was chewy, and the breading tasted frozen. Jen got chicken fried steak, and it tased like Cisco threw it up out of the back of their truck. Piper is no longer the wonderful food stop that it used to be. Steer clear.

Food was good, service was good and drinks were good. Have to give a shoutout to the extensive plant based menu. Nice work!

Haven't been here in well over a year, so it was a lunch well deserved with friends!! I got a Guinness to start with and Jameson on the rocks for dessert! I had the regular grilled cheese sandwich with BBQ sauce for dipping along with a side salad! Everything was delicious!! Other items at the table were fish and chips and fish tacos. Service was great!! I love coming in the afternoon when it's a little more relaxed! Definitely need to come more often!!

We've been to this bar numerous times and it never disappoints! I recently had their chili verde burrito, Irish coffee, and biscuits & gravy! everything was absolutely delicious. The portions are huge, so you'll definitely leave full and happy. It's one of our go-to spots, and we'll definitely be coming back again, especially for St. Patrick's Day!

Stopped by for Sunday brunch and chose a table in the back room for our group of 5. We had a nice waitress who was attentive and patient with our group. My husband and I opted to share the Gilbert breakfast sandwich and the breakfast burrito: - The Gilbert was suppose to come on a brioche bun but mine didn't quite look or taste like one (someone else in our party also ordered the Gilbert and their bun was different). I'd say the sandwich would be great if there wasn't as much sauce smothered in it. Also, the hash brown Pattie's weren't crispy. - My husband enjoyed the breakfast burrito but there wasn't anything too special about it. We did like that it was served in a spinach tortilla. Overall, we weren't amazed by the food but Piper Down is a nice spot to eat at if you're in the area.

Piper Down always slaps, the food is just great for the price and excellent for a pub. Service is always decent and friendly even if they are crazy busy, and it's a great environment to hang out or watch games (I really enjoyed watching the World Cup here!) Came by today for brunch, drinks were out fast, food came out pretty quickly. They always cook my eggs perfectly (over easy), toast with that extra butter, and the potatoes are always delicious. Chicken fried steak was over done, but smother it with gravy, and it's all good. Girlfriend got the Mess of Potatoes which she really enjoyed, a healthier version of a garbage hash if you will. We will be back very soon, especially for the FIFA World Cup!

Went for brunch on Sunday. You have to find parking on the street, so prepare for that. The parking lot was only for the Vietnamese restaurant next door. If you like savory the corned beef hash is the way to go. I do enjoy hot sauce, so added it to complement the dish. The corned beef was tender and lean. Great option for an Irish dish in my opinion. However, this savory gal was thoroughly impressed by the French toast. My partner got the French toast and it was AMAZING. In fact, I would go back just to get the French toast because it was just the right amount of sweetness. That means something to this "savory gal" who's been craving their French toast. This pub is so fun! Would love to come by one night when they have a live band. The decor makes it feel like you're in the Ireland. Would definitely go back when we're in town! Oh the server recommended a great beer too and they offer $2 mimosas for brunch. Great place! They have rooftop seating, but we decided to stay indoors due to the heat.

Their drinks are nice and strong (but they're also pretty expensive), their food is amazing (especially when I'm intoxicated), and their bar staff is so friendly. Honestly, I had a great time with my friends at this bar, but I'm really not a fan of live music when I drink. It just makes it so hard to have conversations. Honestly, this isn't a fault of the bar, my friends just picked a bad night for us to be there--I think it's great to support local artists and I think it's awesome that Piper Down invites them to perform for their guests, it's just not for me. I really had a great time though! (The 4-star rating, however, is unrelated to the live performance, it's partially because my drinks were so strong (I like them sweet and girly!) and partially because they were so expensive (but what bar isn't these days?).)

Vegan review! Absolutely love all the vegan brunch options they have. I got the vegan Irish breakfast and my husband got the Etico Burrito. Topped with mimosas of course which are only $2 each! The food was amazing - we went to Ireland 2 years ago and I was in search of somewhere to get a vegan Irish breakfast but found nothing, yet somehow discovered this place in SLC. Would definitely come back and try more menu items the next time I visit!

"Don't worry honey, it's okay to look, and also throw money at the half-naked women! I promise you won't get in trouble!" Uh-huh. ;) Alright, I digress. Awkwardness aside, Prohibition is a really great place to enjoy a classy dinner, where the meat is served on a place AND on stage, and the cheesecake comes with the price of admission! Speaking of admission, as my wife and I were guests, being shepherded along by our friend, I cannot recall exactly what the "cover charge" was (not much, if I remember correctly...less than $20 for two?), and if reservations are *required*, I cannot say for certain, but I would say they are *recommended* at the very least, because our showtime was packed. Anyway, once paid, you are escorted through a secret bookcase door (SLC residents sure do love their speakeasies, don't they?), and into the dining hall and saloon, where you're soon to have your socks knocked off...well, someone's clothes are coming off, anyway! We were given a table that I dismissively thought was tucked away pretty far in the back and out of the way, but it ended up being one of the best seats in the house, as the table where the performers gathered, prepped, and returned to was just adjacent to us, so we were about as up close and personal as you can get, without getting yourselves arrested. Each of the dancers brought their own style, flair, and wardrobe to their performances, which were spirited and energetic, and a touch racy, without devolving into outright debauchery. It may be an (18+? 21+?) venue, but alcohol restrictions aside, I wouldn't hesitate to take older, more mature teens to a show with similar content. We ordered a smattering of smaller dishes, as we weren't particularly hungry, but the Mishima Wagyu tacos were fantastic (as you would expect), as was the Fedora Fin (Za'atar-crusted ahi tuna), and all of our cocktails. As the show is timed event with multiple performances per night, both food and bev are fired out of the kitchen/bar faster than the bullets from a Tommy Gun, but with far better accuracy. The whole operation here was honestly very impressive, from start to finish. Coming from a progressive city like Portland, it's always struck me a little odd that places that, by reputation, strike you as more conservative end up having some of the best, most wild entertainment venues, that you only wish you had back home. Prohibition is one of these places that I would rather see in my downtown, instead of the litany of seedy strip joints pushing for maximum titilation, but with only a fraction of the class and sophistication. Prohibition is good, clean fun, masquerading as something illicit, which is the heart of what makes it work so well.

We visited at least two, during our four days in SLC. This one was the first: a cathedral-style brewpub with a sports bar aesthetic, with decent food, decent drinks, decent service, and decent prices. Everything was decent. You're not likely to be disappointed by anything you order, but you're not likely to be blown away by anything, either (another thing Squatters has in common with McMenamins, I'd say). During our second visit (to another location, but I'm sure the same rule applies), our party was only interested in ordering drinks (one per person, mind you), but we were informed that we *had* to order some sort of food to accompany them (I'm sure this is more of a Utah thing, rather than a Squatter's thing, but still annoying), so bear that in mind if you're looking for a place to just chill with a beverage and watch a game. Still, the vibe here is lively and friendly; assuming your server is as well, which was a coin flip, in our experience. For a fast, casual chain of brewpubs, Squatters has a lot going for it, and I can see why they are popular, as clearly as I can see ways in which they can improve. A little more focus, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence, and Squatters could absolutely dominate in SLC, and beyond.
