My son is 19 years old and on the autism spectrum. For years, we tried different approaches and instructors, and despite his interest, he struggled to learn how to read musical notes. In just a couple of months with Yolly, he learned to read music, something several others were unable to teach him over many years. Watching that breakthrough happen was nothing short of amazing. Not only is he learning, but he is thriving. In less than a year, he is already preparing for his first recital, which in itself is a huge milestone. One of the pieces he is performing is The Entertainer, a challenging song that speaks volumes about Yolly's high expectations and her confidence in his abilities. She never limits him; instead, she believes in him and gently pushes him forward. What also stands out is the attention to detail. My son now maintains perfect posture while playing, something Yolly consistently taught and reinforced. Her teaching style is structured yet compassionate, and she truly knows how to connect with her students. I was referred to Rowland Heights School of Music by another parent of a young man on the spectrum. I admit I was skeptical at first, but I decided to try it, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made for my son. If you are a parent looking for a music teacher who is patient, skilled, and genuinely invested in their students' growth, I cannot recommend Yolly and Rowland Heights School of Music highly enough. They have made a lasting impact on our lives.

The teachers are patient with him & always available to help out when he's stuck. Julia, the front office manager is always available, a text away when I have questions. Usually the first class is free but I did pay $30 - $40 for each trial class. My son didn't like the robotics class at all. He said the instructor was having a hard time keeping the kids engaged or on task. He also said the classroom was dirty and there were not enough parts or components so they had to get some from other rooms. As a new trial student you would think the instructor would give some background or guidance but he said there was no explanation or instruction from the instructor on what was going on. She was just helping kids that needed help or find parts for them. He knew one of the other kids in the class so he just sat next to him and observed (not sure why I had to pay for him to just sit & observe). He was supposed to take the coding class right after, but he was already done and didn't want to go back inside. We went after school on a Friday so he was already tired. Since I already paid for both trials, I rescheduled the coding class. They were very accommodating & rescheduled us a couple of times. He said this coding class was much better and the instructor was better. All the coding was done on the computer. My impression from the 3 times I walked in was it's chaotic: kids darting here and there and some parents picking up their kids. There are tables with robotics and coding plaques or instruments by the entrance and hallways, cluttered & dusty. The 2 young gals there were very nice but just sitting at their desks looking at their computer monitors amidst the chaos. They didn't ask him how the trial class went. Didn't seem organized or clean. I had high hopes with all the 5 star reviews on yelp but was not impressed. It's in a narrow and long strip mall with different businesses: a dentist and 2 - 3 other tutoring type afterschool places. Looks like a lot of local kids hang out after school. My son has gone to a dozen or so lego, coding and robotics camps over the last 2 summers and he said he prefers those classes/camps.

Why I preferred this school and encourage you to start your English journey here, because of these reasons. 1- The number of students in each class is small. it is between 3 - 7 students. You will feel like you are with a private tutor. You have plenty of time to ask questions and participate to improve your speaking skills. 2- If you plan to take IELTS or TOEFL, this is the right program. The materials they use are from the company "publisher" who write these exams. So, they hit two birds with one stone. You will learn English and prepare for the exam. 3- The staff are amazingly helpful and understand any issue the students have. Also, they always surprise us with wonderful activities and contests. They have four awesome staff each of them welcomes us with a huge smile and a wonderful attitude. They are Kimberley Wong, Marcie, Celia, Amy. Last Advice, attending English school will not make you speak English fluently, you need to practice and review everything you took consistently.
