I brought my car to BG Auto / Loveland and feel that I was scammed. My dealer had mentioned that I needed to replace the rear brakes, so I called BG Auto to ask for another estimate. They told me I needed to bring the car in for an inspection, which I did. They said they perform a full inspection, and after a few hours, they gave me a report stating that, in addition to the rear brakes, it was "urgently needed" with a red exclamation icon to replace the water pump/alternator belts. The person at the front desk, XXXX was very impatient to have me decide whether I would ask them a service or not at the spot. They attached a photo and claimed the belts had cracks and damage, but the photo was unclear. Since I don't know much about cars, I agreed to the replacement. After the service was completed and I paid, I noticed the receipt said "serpentine belts replaced," which alarmed me because I had replaced the serpentine belt just the previous month. I didn't realize that the water pump belt is referred to as the serpentine belt. I went back to question them, and XXXX at the shop showed me the old belts. Of course they looked almost new (one completely IS new) and had no visible cracks or damage. I told him, "You replaced the belt that I had just replaced last month." XXXX responded by just saying, "Sorry, it looked damaged," but did not provide a satisfactory explanation. After this experience, I had my battery--which they had diagnosed as "weak"--checked at another shop. The technician there told me the battery was fine and did not need to be replaced. This experience felt like a complete rip-off. I will not return to this shop. If you are not knowledgeable about cars, be very very cautious, and always ask for another opinion at another shop(s). Based on my experience, they may recommend unnecessary repairs. read more

Wanted to charge me over $5000 for Catalytic Converter repair. Got it done for less than $2000!!!!

I will never use these guys again. I brought in my 5.7 hemi as it started ticking and I suspected the lifters were going out. They told me that the lifters wore down and sent excessive metal shavings through the entire engine and quoted me $16,000 for a new one. They said the VVT solenoid was full of metal and after pulling it myself it was FINE. They said they had photos of all the metal they'd email me but I never got anything. They charged me $700 for a diagnosis when they had the truck for a day. I ended up tearing the engine apart and finding the lifter on the cylinder that was misfiring had a bit of play but found zero damage anywhere or metal shavings anywhere. So not only did they try and sell me a new motor I did not need but they also charged me $700 for an inaccurate diagnosis. Do not take your vehicle here read more

JUST DON'T! I recommend that, in my opinion, you just don't use BG Automotive on Garfield. I just had the most horrific experience with them. A ridiculous, exhausting, time-consuming, and expensive "comedy of errors". The following are some of the reasons why I am sharing my opinions: I took my Subaru to them for an oil change back in November. I found out later that they overfilled the oil. How could they do this? Why don't they know (or look in a book) exactly how much oil to put in? It costs money for another shop to drain the extra oil. More $$$ out of my pocket. Then they said I needed a new battery. It was a bit pricey but OK. Then they gave me a 4-page list of everything that I might want to do, but nothing crucial. Being a strong believer in preventive maintenance, I said OK. And that was a big, big, big mistake on my part!! One of the things on the list was a carbon cleaning service. Little did they know -- that was a major mistake on a Subaru. (I found out later.) It caused all of the car's safety features to be turned off -- and gave me about 8 warning lights that turned on, on the dash. They told me that "should" go away after driving the car for 500 miles. So I drove without the safety features over 500 miles -- a little more than 2 months. Over that same period I took it back to them a good number of times so they could TRY to "reset" things -- so the dash lights went off -- but always came back on in just a few hours or days. I drive in the mountains a lot, so it was very dangerous to not have most of the car's safety features working. They eventually, after about 3 months, told me that their diagnostic equipment was now showing a code that meant that they had destroyed the catalytic converter -- and that I should take the car to Subaru. Proof that they (BG Auto) were IN OVER THEIR HEADS. Again -- more $$$ out of my pocket! Did they think they should pay for this? No way. Another thing on the list was to replace the front and rear suspension strut assembly. One of the back struts started making noise after about 2 weeks. I took it back to them about 5 times because they could not find what was causing the noise. They test drove it about 5 or 6 times before they discovered it was the right rear strut. (Now it was 2 months after I alerted them to the problem.) They replaced it and said the part was defective. Whew - 2 months - and another layer of aggravation AND EXPENSE. Before they found the cause, they recommended replacing all of the sway bar links. That didn't work, but it was another $460 out of my pocket! Did they think they should pay for this? No way. While they were on one of their test drives they picked up a nail in the left front tire. The guy who was the last one to test drive and he told me he heard a strange noise from the tire and was going to ask the technician to look at it next time. I needed to go to Boulder the next day and I asked him if it was safe to drive. He said yes, it was safe to drive. About half the way to Boulder the nail flew out of the tire. After that the air was now leaking very quickly. I was driving around 60 mph so I was very lucky that it didn't cause a crash. I noticed the "low tire pressure" light came on. Then a few minutes later, I miraculously spotted a tire place and pulled in. By that time the tire was almost totally off the rim! It could not be fixed. Sooooo...another $180 out of my pocket for a new tire. Did they think they should pay for this? No way. Well I could say more but this is getting too long. As I said, it was a ridiculous, exhausting, time-consuming, and expensive "comedy of errors". It's almost criminal. I just want to let people know that, in my opinion -- they should take their business elsewhere. And if anyone wants to recommend to me some good auto maintenance place, please do. (I'm new to the area and so don't want to keep trying more places in hopes that I get lucky.) read more

I absolutely dislike when I go into mechanic/machine shops like this and they think that I am a stupid woman whom will dish out $ on what they say is wrong with my vehicle. Well little do they know I had my vehicle aligned prior to going into this shop, 2 weeks prior, only for them to lie to me and tell me I need an alignment lol. I took it back to the original place whom did the alignment (Les Schwab, Windsor, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE GUYS by the way) and they (Les Schwab) stated it was NOT in need of alignment! After figuring out the issue (driver side rear shock broken off) he gave me options based on the fact i needed my car so i could work. I drive for a living. They gave me a loaner car so i would be able to work. During the appointment Rich drove me home so I wouldn't have to wait and picked me up to get the loaner. Overinflated repairs for nearly $2000, returned my car to me after the diagnostics with it making a weird noise, paid for a repair only for it to be returned in worse shape & it stalled in the middle of the road when I never even had a stalling issue. three weeks ago i took my car to this shop to have my windshield washer motor fixed, i was charged $550 for a diagnosis to fix my heated seats and the windshield washer motor, i did not want my heated seats fixed was told my washer pump was fixed when i took my car to loveland ford where i purchased my car i was told that the pump was replaced with a older one that did not work at all, they syphened 3/4 tank of my gas i was told that if i did not pay my bill i well be charged for storage of my car, i am a senior citizen on fixed income, please do not take your car to to this place it is a big time rip off... read more
