Food was good and overall we had a nice experience. The service was okay. We were the only table there, but at least five other tables still had dishes on them and hadn't been cleared. Not sure if they were understaffed, but it didn't seem like we came in right after a rush. Our service was slow and a bit awkward while we asked for recommendations, for the check, to go boxes, etc. Just seemed like an inconvenience. We ordered quite a few things off the menu--tikka masala, a coconut dish, noodles, a naan basket, plus the strawberry drinks--so we got to try a good variety. Everything was pretty good overall. Customer service is great! However, the food is lacking extremely in quality and flavor. This is a place to eat and therefor it failed in the food category and that is why I give it 1 star. I wasted $70 on dinner for two. We ordered: Lamb Vindaloo; was watery and lacked vindaloo flavor. 4+ is Medium+ spicy and did not kick at all. Honestly the lamb in it was good and cooked moist. Chicken Tikka Masala; the sauce was over thick and dry. There seems to have been too much Ginger paste that the sauce as if it contained straw hay. The chicken was unbearable, they were dry rubbery nibbles. Dumplings; I am pretty sure the dumplings are from Costco, they are oriental style dumplings and usually a box of 36 cost $8 on sale. Disappointed, I should have known not to order dumplings at an Indian restaurant. Rice; was dry and crumbly. The rice had broken down into little pieces, almost like eating cuscus rather than rice. Seemed very old. Naan; was okay, but not even near the best. Was a little doughy and lacked any chew. This made the cheese naan a little unpleasant. The bill was the salt on the wound. Each entree was charged an "extra rice" fee. The dumplings (appetizer) also had a charge for rice, but we were only given two rice, so this was just a way for the place to make a few bonus bucks. read more

Excellent buffet! Just $9.99 for extremely good food and friendly staff. We visited on a Saturday for lunch around 11:30 am. It was a couple people sitting and enjoying the buffet already. The owner keep the buffet very well by bringing food constantly and a few times he went to our table to refill our glasses. The waitress, a young girl, was extremely nice and attentive. They both treated my daughter with kindness. The buffet selection had plenty to choose from, white rice or fried rice, around 6 veggies options and 6 meat options, Naan, fried bread and rice pudding for dessert. I've seen it pop up a bunch of times on Yelp, so when my brother offered to take me out to lunch "somewhere in the south part of the valley" a couple of weeks ago I immediately knew where to go. I thought we'd be lucky enough to hit the lunch buffet. We rolled up around 12:15 and it was pretty quiet, only one other table full. It's a simply decorated restaurant with warm colors, and immediately the unmistakable herbs and spices of Indian cooking filled my nostrils. We were seated, we grabbed out plates, and it was off to the races with the buffet. Due to the nature of buffets, I can't guarantee what will be there and what won't. We had some staples like curry, tandoori chicken, and coconut korma, but I think they rotate things in and out as I've been reading other reviews and there were definitely things in other reviews that I did not get--lamb curry, for example. Generally speaking, I can say that I actually preferred the vegetarian dishes to the meat ones. That's not a slight on the meat--all of the meats were well prepared, quality cuts, and full of flavor. They just definitely know and honor their veggies here. Veggie curry, you guys. That stuff is legit and I went back for thirds. Some of the things were not as favorite, like the chow chow. It's a fine rendition and shows the diversity of the region, but it flirts too closely with Chinese food for me and I like the less border town eats. We were certainly very well taken care of, but the one thing that I noticed is that they kept asking everyone if the food was too spicy. I don't think they mean to offend, but they asked in a way that felt like they thought I didn't like it or that I looked like I was struggling. I'm no spice addict, but even I thought the spice level was just fine. Maybe instead of asking, "Is it too spicy?" they might ask, "How do you like the spice level?" Just a thought. For an AYCE buffet, it's reasonably priced. I think $10 plus tip, and I left super full. I'm liking the new place, the new food, and the kind folks who run the place. It feels like I've waited forever to experience the lunch buffet (Saturdays from 11:30-2:30) here. A few weeks back it finally worked out that I was free one Saturday at lunchtime and they were CLOSED. Heartbreaking! I persevered, however, and finally got to go last weekend. Hurrah! We were greeted as soon as we entered, and seated at a booth. The interior is a little dark, and not particularly attractive, but the place settings are fairly nice (though a little old-fashioned). It's a medium size restaurant, and there were only a few other guests dining. We were starving, so immediately stuffed our faces with the following: Tandoori Chicken - Simple bone-in chicken pieces, fairly moist with great flavor Lamb Curry - This lamb was SO tender. The sauce was probably the most strongly spiced and flavored Chicken Curry - Excellent basic curry, a teeny bit spicy, but we're talking probably 4 out of 10. Navaratna Korma - Mixed vegetables in a mild, sweet and coconut-y yellow curry sauce. Probably my favorite dish. Okra Bhindi - A spicy blend of pan-fried okra and other vegetables Daal Maharani - Lentils in a thin, but flavorful sauce Veg Chow Chow - This was a surprise as it was very similar to chow mein. I liked that it included vegetables, but it was a little greasy. Vegetable Pakora - A mix of vegetables, pretty potato dense, battered and deep fried Bhatura - Similar to a scone, with a big air pocket in the middle. Not necessarily sweet, but I dipped it in the tamarind chutney, which reminded me a bit of a donut. Naan - Good, basic naan. Would have loved it if it was a little warmer and crispier on the edges, but it was very soft, and that was enjoyable too. Basmati Rice - Well-prepared, fluffy, and just exactly what you'd hope for. Raita - If you've never had this before prepare yourself because it's one of my most favorite things. Similar to tzatziki, it's a yogurt based sauce/dip. Their version includes cucumber, carrot, and I think a bit of tomato. It's so simple, but it is delicious with nearly everything (naan most especially). Gulab Jamun - Like fried donut balls in a light citrus-y syrup. At first I thought these were too sweet, but they kind of grew on me! Service was excellent. I think our waters were filled probably 4 or 5 times. The young man who assisted us the most was extremely friendly, answered our questions, and made sure we had anything we required. I have only two small suggestions. One would be that while the temperature of the curries and other entrees were great, the fried foods (bhatura and pakora) were only warm, and I really like my fried items hot (to maintain crispiness). I know it's a buffet, so there's only so much they can do, but maybe if those items were kept covered or offer a smaller portion at a time so there could be fresher ones served more often? Second, most of the food was very heavy, and the items that were more vegetable-based managed to be weighty too, as they are fried or served in a rich sauce. They did have a small "salad" section, but it was just a few cut up vegetables, and not very appetizing-looking. Maybe offer plain steamed vegetables or beef up the salad options? At $9.99 per person it will be difficult to return to eat when it's not the buffet (though I'm very curious to try some of their other dishes), because that's such a steal, and I really enjoyed the option of so many different varieties of entrees. I'm curious to see if the buffet offerings are always the same, or if they switch it up. Regardless, it's an excellent restaurant, and I'll definitely return. read more

Food is so much better than the previous place, service was awesome and attentive. Selection was large and each and every item was delicious. I knew nothing about this restaurant. We were shopping in the Union Park area and a friend wanted Indian food so we looked up Indian food restaurants and went here. It was really really good. I wasn't expecting this. Usually when I eat at a restaurant I think "well that was $30 I'll never get back". And I usually never go back to the same restaurant twice because restaurants are just not good nowdays. But I can't wait to go back to Bhutan. I had a Bhutanese dish called Momo. So good!! Kamal and Kim were very kind and friendly. We ordered the veggie samosas (which were the best I've ever had anywhere), vegetable coconut korma, mango chicken and chicken tikka masala, plus garlic naan. All were awesome. On a whim, my wife and I tried take-out from this restaurant a few weeks ago. Suffice it to say, it was OK...as the food was a little over the top, so to speak. Let me explain. I had the chicken vindaloo (my go-to all-time fave) and ordered it medium hot. My wife had the chicken coconut korma (mild), and we both shared a side of saag aloo (mild), along with garlic naan. As I alluded to above, we found all the entrees to be, well...over-spiced. Really inundated with Indian spices that overpowered the flavor of the chicken and even the naan. I know that is what brings the unique flavors of Indian food (and hey, I've been enjoying Indian cuisine since 1994 when I first tried it in Itaewon, ROK) but I have enjoyed great (and HOT) Indian meals in the UK, Ireland, and all across the USA that all have been much more balanced in spices. It's when you chew and you bite into a whole cardamom 'bean' and it explodes and it's flavor overpowers everything in sight is when I call a time out and have to complain. So yes...I HATE when whole cardamom is left in the entree, and that day biting into one happened not once but twice with my vindaloo entree. Ugh. It's like when I was six years old and ate some baked ham and accidentally ate a hidden clove. Blech! That and the over-garlic'd naan. Sheesh. So yeah, I appreciate the authentic flavors, but overdoing it is worse than under-seasoned as it made it hard to finish. Sorry about that. Three Stars... read more

Bhutan, an small Asianic country squeezed between Nepal, India, and China in the Eastern Himalayas, has a cuisine influenced by its bordering neighbors. We've got a large Bhutanese community in the SLC area, and it is reflected in the high-quality food I found at Bhutan House. I went to their $9.99 lunch buffet ... well worth it if you're hungry. There's the house fave: Tandoori Chicken. Their yogurt, garlic, and ginger flavoring is excellent, and isn't dried out like many Tandoori Chickens. There's Veg Coconut Korma: A sweet and creamy mix of vegetables, garlic, ginger, tomato, cream, and onions. The Chana Masala is a yummy chickpea-based dish with garlic, onion, and ginger. I went back for seconds on their Quanti Masala noodle dish. I dare you to dislike the Vegetable Pakora: deep-fried mixed veggies. The award for best-named food goes to the Vegetable Chow-Chow: An almost soupy, succulent mix of noodles, onion, cabbage, mushrooms, tomatoes, ginger, peas, bell peppers, onion, cilantro, and broccoli. I recommend packing any of your foods inside the Bhatura: A puffed up, deep-fried naan bread (and there's regular naan for the less adventurous). My one problem is with service ... I was seated, but no waiter or waitress came for about 15 minutes. When one finally did come around, I wasn't asked if I wanted anything else with my order. I had to go up front to ask for a soda. The hospitality needs A LOT of work at Bhutan ... I'm going to assume their service is more robust at dinnertime. The food's a 5, the service a 1. read more

Oh my goodness - so glad we found this place! Everything we tried was delicious - sooooo good! We love Indian/Nepalese food, and we made sure to try some items that we have not seen on menus elsewhere - all good! Be sure to get the bread basket - it was huge and all flavors were wonderful - we especially liked the sweet na'an with cherries and nuts and raisins. Service was great and very friendly, and their spices levels were well explained - and on a scale of 1-8 which we have never heard at other restaurants. I went to this place with a friend who had been the week before. She had rave reviews, and since I LOVE Indian food, I was looking forward to it all day. We arrived and there was only one group in the restaurant, so we got seated quickly. The server was happy and kind, but kept repeating the wrong order to us, but we patiently worked with him to understand what we wanted. When the food came, it was presented well. It looked wonderful. We got puffy naan and the garlic cheese naan. both bread options were superb. great taste, great texture, and cooked perfectly. We got the Chili Chicken and the chicken Tikka Masala. both dishes had the toughest pieces of chicken I had ever had. It was as if I was eating an over cooked porkchop or steak. I prefer my chicken to be tender and juicy with indian dishes. This chicken took effort to chew. While the flavor on both were good (the sauce), the tikka masala didn't quite seem like the traditional tikka masalas I'd had in the past. I'm guessing by previous reviews that this place is a hit most of the time. i was disappointed, and will consider going back again, but there are other places in the valley I feel are far superior.
