Delicious food! I've driven by this place so many times but finally stopped there for dinner. Very glad I did.

My sister recommended this place and we enjoyed our experience here. We ordered Lamb masala, chicken coconut kurma, saag paneer and everything was good. The curries were delicious. We ordered all mild spiciness and the spiciness was very light and still delicious. The service was excellent. We have a water pitcher to refill our own waters and they made sure everything was okay at our table. We will definitely be back whenever we come to salt lake city. read more

Used to always be my favorite....especially because I thought they were the only Indian restaurant that could make a fabulous peshwari naan. Now they've shrunk the size so much it's not worth it. Had a fantastic dinner here. Started with the appetizer combo. The chicken on this dish was outstanding The table ordered the following 4 dishes to share: Shrimp vindolo- big shrimp, tasty sauce. Ordered it mild and could have gone up a notch. We really enjoy eating at Royal India. Their food is very delicious. For an appetizer, they have a vegetable Samosa which is incredibly delicious. It's a fried pastry stuff with potatoes and peas and it's so good. I like their chicken tikka and chicken masala. They can do different spice ranges to customize it for your tastes. read more

Nine family and friends ate there a few months ago and were very pleased. The service was good and prompt, and all the food was excellent - we loved everything from the mango lassi to the garlic naan to the range of dishes which we shared family-style - which I prefer, in order to see what the variety of dishes offers. The owner was congenial and explained that though the recently imposed tariffs had increased the cost of the best rice he could get from India, he still insisted on serving it because the quality is so much better. Best Indian Food Ever! Amazing food and service, an absolute local gem. Best Butter Chicken I've ever eaten, and the Baingan BBartha (eggplant) is absolutely delicious. My foodie friend from Arizona insists we eat there every time she's in town and claims it's the best Indian food she's ever eaten. This might be the best Indian food I've ever had. And I've been to Bombay house and a bunch of other places. Everything we ordered was so delicious. I swear, everything just melted right in our mouthes. We ordered the mixed appetizer, butter naan, onion naan, butter chicken and chicken tikka misala. The flavors were all so vibrant and savory. Indian food is best in large group because you can try a varieties of dishes. This place hit the mark for us after a ling fun day of snowboarding. All the dishes were delicious and service and friendly. My favorite of these entrees was the lamb. The flavors and interesting spices like Coriander, cumin, turmeric, black mustard, and cayenne pepper just come together. In the midst of a huge blizzard, royal India stayed open and let hungry travelers indulge in its delicious offerings. The chicken tikka Masala and butter chicken were both savory, the naan was just right and the mixed kebab satisfied a discerning 12 year old. Nice menu and friendly staff as well. Royal has been our go-to Indian for 10 years now. We have tried every other Indian restaurant around the valley in-between so we can back up our claim that this is by FAR, no comparison, no argument, the absolute best Indian in Utah. My husband and I joke that we'll never leave Utah because then we couldn't have Royal anymore. We even dread what would happen if they ever retire or what would happen if we have kids someday and they couldn't have Royal if they didn't keep this place running for eternity. We talk about how if we were super rich we'd invest in Royal franchise and how it would be our first investment because we love it more than anything else in the world. Everyone should have the opportunity to have Royal because it is heart warming comfort that makes everything better. I have personally traveled all over the domestic US and have tried Indian in all the major US cities and there is just nothing that comes remotely close to being as good as Royal. Nothing. I found Royal 10 years ago on a first date and though the date didn't work out, I joke that it was the best date of my life because it introduced me to Royal. Since then it's been a staple in our life and where we go every weekend in the normal world and where we go to celebrate every major life milestone. It's become a foundation in the community and during the pandemic has kept our spirits high because we know there is still Royal. I cannot express what this place means to me and my husband, our family and friends because not only is it the total best Indian I've had locally but also in the domestic United States. Everything is always so incredibly satisfying and whenever we need something to lift our spirits we always go to Royal because the food here just makes everything better. Pre-pandemic it was a second home and a normal for us to go every weekend, it was something we just "did" because we had to have Royal every week, sometimes 2-3xs a week. It's a place of comfort through food and community and if you haven't tried it you're missing out on the best Indian food Utah has to offer and everything Royal represents. It's truly something special to so many people here and especially life changing in more ways than just the food. Most importantly, the owner is a true artist and real master at his craft. We are lucky to have a chef as talented as him that can express the concept of such perfected understanding in blends of flavors, textures, temperature, and quality of ingredients. He spends the time to study and perfect his dishes and they are an art form in both the complexities and beauty of Indian cuisine. There is just no other Indian restaurant in the valley that has it anywhere remotely as dialed as Royal does. Everything is just always consistent and on point even after 10 years. It's the only place here that has been a constant being that the constant is always mind blowing good. And just to prove it- like I said my husband and I have been a Royal loyalist for 10 years now and still everytime we take our first bite of our dinner whether dine in or takeout we still have the same reaction we did 10 years ago...."OMG so freaking good " and left in shock still after 10 years everytime. #eatroyal read more

This used to be a wonderful restaurant. I don't know what happened, maybe they changed the ownership or something... it is not Indian by any means. Naan is like a flour tortilla. The worst thing is that you order garlic naan and they sprinkle garlic powder on it and toast it. Tastes awful and the powder crunches under your teeth. Lamb boti kabob is like a fajita... small and thin slices of meat that you can't even find in between the veggies. Chicken tikka masala doesn't have any taste. Service is good. Great Indian food, very fragrant, aromatic. Once you open your car door, you could close your eyes and let your nose bring you right to the restaurant. I'm Caucasian and my wife likes very non-fragrant foods, she doesn't eat here, but when I need something more exciting for lunch or dinner, I'll go to Royal India and it does the trick. I'm a big fan of being able to taste and smell the culture of the food I eat. Royal India is not the burger joint down every road. They put a lot of love and effort into making great dishes and for me at least, I'm grateful for the extra time and attention to making the meals not just good, but great. However, I can tell you I am a huge fan of Indian food and I am very picky when it comes to quality. This place is absolutely amazing. They truly use quality ingredients and you can tell. Nice ambience and clean. The onion bajji was perfectly cooked and the delicious mint sauce complimented it. The garlic naan was good but I was anticipating bits of garlic rather than garlic powder which would have greatly improved the taste. We ordered the butter chicken,which was brought out with rice, and chicken tandoori. The butter chicken was very good and so was the aromatic rice. I didn't specifically care for the chicken tandoori, it needed more seasoning and lacked flavor. I wish the I had ordered the white meat version. The food is brought out quickly and the staff was very nice. I will definitely be back, can't wait to try some of their other dishes. read more

This was our first time going to this restaurant and we were very happy with our dinner. We had a party of 10 plus a child and they were very accommodating. We started off with vegetable samosas. They were mushy and I wouldn't order them again. I wasn't even sure what they were when we ordered but it was fun to try something new anyway. We also had the coconut milk veggie Kurma, as well as the Paneer Masala. The veggie kurma was delicious! I would totally order it again. The masala was amazing as well. Everyone loved their food and said that it was some of the best Indian food they have had. The service was great and we didn't have to wait too long for our food which was nice, especially with a party that large. The only negative thing about the evening was the lack of spice in our dishes. You can order each dish according to your spice preference, which is great. I ordered mine mild/medium. There was no spice whatsoever. My sister who ordered the same thing I did with medium spice, said she didn't detect any spice in hers either. My husband, who likes his food spicy, ordered the masala medium hot and there was no heat that we could tell. That seemed to be the general consensus among all of us at the table. So, if you are going to come here, and like your food with spice, order it the spiciest you can get so you're not disappointed! We will totally come back again though! read more

I have been coming to Royal India for probably 20 years. It has always been good, but as of late they have really stepped up their game. It may have become my favorite Indian restaurant in the Salt Lake Valley. Chicken tikka masala and chicken vindaloo are favorites of mine. They recently stated using a much better veggie mix for their vegetable masala and it really makes a difference. read more
