Once you enter the resort itself, you're transported to Italy and this restaurant is an extension of the vibe. Our reservation was honored promptly and our waiter was spot on with class and friendliness. After a LONG day in the park, we headed back to our hotel and needed a good meal to cap off the day. We made a reservation via OpenTable, but it was packed on a Saturday night. My son got the kids spaghetti with meat sauce. He really liked it and the portion was huge for a kid's meal. My nephew got the kids steak with mashed potatoes and he also really enjoyed it. My husband and I started with dirty martinis (extra cold!) and they were delicious and EXTRA cold. Much needed after the 100-degree Orlando heat! Hats off to the bartender. We both had the Caesar salads that were cold, crisp and well dressed. I had the monthly special of Cacio e Pepe. Honestly, dont have many to compare it to but it was exactly what I was craving, and it didn't disappoint. My husband went for the tenderloin filet with foie Gras and Truffle Mashed Potatoes. We ended up ordering the Insalata Di Cesare which consisted of hearts of romaine lettuce, homemade croutons, and caesar dressing (DH) and the Prosciutto Di Parma E Burrata which was served with Mozzarella Burrata and Fig Preserves. The Fig Preserves were unique and flavorful! For our entrees we ordered Cappellaccio, which is described on the menu as "Little Hat" shaped Ravioli, braised Beef Short Rib, Spinach, fresh Mushroom & Marsala Cream sauce (DH) and a seasonal special, the "Airline Chicken" which is described as organic Chicken Breast, Sautéed Wild Mushrooms and Polenta. Without a doubt, the presentation and flavors of the Cappellaccio won! Apparently it is a very popular dish at this location. It was very easy to see why! Since we were celebrating my birthday, we each ordered a dessert. My DH went with the Cioccolatissimo which was a Molten Chocolate Lava Cake with Chantilly Creme and Wild Amarene Cherries. I decided to go the traditional route and ordered the Tiramisu Della Bice, since I do love the flavors of a Tiramisu! Of course, DH "won" again!! It was the worst place I have eaten. Carlos was our waiter and he had the personality of a tick. Bolognese was the worst thing I had ever had in my life. I actually didn't eat any of it took it go and threw it out immediately as I left the restaurant. My Merlot smelled like vinegar. It was just an overall awful experience. 3 Words: "Flourless Chocolate Cake." - It's the true star of the show. We went back a second time on our vacation to eat it again! The ambience was classy and quiet. He was an older gentleman from New York with a load of knowledge about the food and wine. He promptly refilled our water after we had taken a drink, checked on us after each course, and was very friendly. On our second trip in, we had a server from another country. I'm not sure where. He was dressed more like a host, instead of a server... perhaps they were short handed on servers that day... but the 2nd gentleman did the basic job... and nothing more. He never asked if we needed anything or refilled water. He wasn't overly helpful or friendly. Slightly cold, if anything. We ordered the tortellini pasta to share as a first course both days we dined here. If you ask, they will split the pasta dish for you and your companion. It's not enough to split for more than 2 people. Also, it was so delicious, I have no pictures of it. But it was hot, well seasoned, and had a lot of Pork Ragu mixed it! We loved it! Bice is a fantastic restaurant that I cannot recommend enough. Paul our server did an amazing job making us feel right at home as soon as we sat down. We decided to sit outside on the patio and enjoy some live music that was happening downstairs in the pier area of the hotel. The appetizers, salads, and main course were all delicious. The wine list is long and has lots of great options, and the servers all give great recommendations for the entire menu. We are Orlando locals so we were not staying at the hotel, however, with validation from the hostess, parking is free! This is a major bonus for those who know these hotels love to charge massive amounts just to park for a meal. We will definitely be returning soon! read more

Bice used to be one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago so I had high expectations for the experience in Universal's premier hotel. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn't age as well as I'd hoped. To be fair, we visited when the property was under construction and as such the dining room had all of its windows shuttered and no view. I can't comment on the typical experience from an ambiance perspective but would note that the entrance has a desk with a sign to wait for seating and across the way is an open door to an office space with a large copier and cleaning supplies ... doesn't quite match the waiters in formal suits and dress code requirements for patrons. Our waiter was wonderful. The vibe was empty. A few hotel guests. Again, might be due to hotel construction. But my biggest issue was the food. It was fine. Nothing special or en par with the pricing. Especially the pasta. On that end you have two options - fresh made or de cecco boxed pasta for similar prices. I mean, that is my favorite supermarket dried pasta brand but I'm not paying $30 for it at a restaurant without something dang special. And why would anyone pair "dang special" with boxed pasta? Portion sizes large - again a bit of an early 2000's vibe. Everything acceptable but nothing standout. Typical ceasar, thick cut and very covered bruschetta of a pizza house vibe, veal very sauced, pasta very sauced, everything very sauced. Wanted it to be a standout but next time would go to Vivo for equal or better food and a fresher ambiance. read more

This was for dinner after a short park visit (we're locals with season pass to Universal). I booked this as an alternative to the Citywalk restaurants, as this looked much nicer than the offerings there. The restaurant far exceeded our expectations. First, the not great - you will take a complimentary water taxi to Portofino Bay hotel, where the restaurant is located. If you time it wrong, like we did, it was close to a 30 minute wait in line before we got on a water taxi. That's the MOST negative thing I can say about the entire experience. (and honestly, the short boat ride wasn't a bad experience). We dressed theme park casual - shorts, short sleeved collared shirt, indiscreet sneakers. We were slightly underdressed compared to other patrons but not terribly so. I wouldn't go any less casual than we dressed. The atmosphere was great; a nice upscale restaurant with linen tablecloths, a nice bar, and no shortage of very attentive and personable waitstaff. A bonus was that, while there were children dining, it appeared that none were under 7 and all were very well behaved (misbehaved children in Orlando restaurants has become an irritant to my wife). My wife ordered a Pomegranate Martini, which she loved. The food was fantastic. We started with splitting a Capri Salad. I'll take pictures on our next visit, but it was both aesthetically very pleasing and very delicious. My wife had the lasagna (I had a couple of small tastes) - it was great. I ordered the Ossobuco. You need at least one person in your party to order it so everyone in your party can try a bit. Absolutely fantastic; some of the best Ossobuco we've had. Portions were generous; we left with leftover lasagna and Ossobuco. Unfortunately, we didn't have any room for dessert. How much did we enjoy the restaurant? After reading the reviews, I don't know how people were displeased. Upon entering the restaurant, we were quickly greeted by the hostess. She was pleasant and welcoming. Once you walk down the hallway, there is a big open area where all of the tables were - it was an elegant space to say the least. We were promptly greeted by an Italian waiter, he was attentive and extremely helpful in navigating us through their wine and food selections (something not as typical in Italy!). We started with his wine recommendation of Colle Mossari Montecucco. It was a a nice Super Tuscan that had slightly earthy notes and was full body. For an appetizer, we had the Polpo (octopus), it was cooked perfectly, but not charred. They had some herb on it and the dish came with a pesto-like drizzle. It was great! Our wine paired nicely with the Penne All' Arriabbiata. The pasta was cooked perfectly for gluten-free, the sauce was perfectly balanced between acidic and slightly sweet. The spice factor was certainly present, but for me I would have liked it to be a little spicier. For dessert, I had the pumpkin cheesecake mousse (they omit the crumble for gluten free). It had a nice pumpkin flavor and the texture was very creamy like a mousse. My husband had the Cappellaccio, which is "little hat" ravioli with braised short rib, spinach, mushroom and Marsala cream sauce. He felt the short rib had a nice flavor and was tender not fatty. It was excellent with the Umami flavor of mushroom in Marsala. The ravioli had had more meat than spinach, which was nice. We definitely would return. This outlet of the Bice chain in the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal serves up some outstanding Italian fare in a decidedly un-Orlando setting. The platoon of servers did a great job of serving waves of drinks, appetizers, wine, entrees and desserts; offering menu advice with a professional flair. Thank you. Indoor decor is trattoria-style, with perhaps 30 tables. There is outdoor seating as well on a balcony level. Standout appetizer is the charcuterie board. Luscious cuts of meat, hunks of cheese, olives, hunks of crusty bread. Restraint is necessary - there's plenty of food to come. Entrees included a fantastic branzino - pan seared, skin-on with roasted vegetables. Perfect - moist and tender flesh, crunchy skin. This is how it should be done. Veal shank ossobuco also delicious. Veal is braised till medium rare and served atop saffron & parmesan risotto. I'm leery of cannoli in Florida - the shells wilt in the humidity. The trio served at Bice were ok - not the crunchiest I've ever had. But the creamy sweet ricotta filling, ends dipped in chopped pistachios - SPOT ON! Tiramisu also excellent - dense and decadent. This restaurant has a lot of potential but they are missing the mark. The location is great and convenient while staying at the Portofino. We ate her two nights since we were staying at the resort and there weren't many options in walking distance that were any better. Hostesses- They are the face of your restaurant. We were greeted with resting you know what faces and they were wearing sweatshirts. Please clean up your front end staff. Service - We had decent service both nights we went but it was nothing out of this world. It was what I had expected. I still don't get why they're wearing white coats at an Italian restaurant carrying food lol I'd switch to all black. Food - I believe the food is hit or miss depending on what you order. We had the paradelle mushroom pasta and it was good! Then I had the caprese salad and it was awful, no flavor and soggy tomatoes. One night we sat at a table and another we sat at the bar. We got to see all sides to this place. Since this spot is at a theme park resort you will get a good mix of dressy and casual. I do think this place should have a dress code if they want to stay upscale, charge people for no shows on reservations, clean up your front end staff, and get out of those white coats! Last night I came to Bice (probably for the last time) with a good friend who had made the reservation. We ordered the Fritto Misto and the prosciutto with burratta cheese. The Fritto Misto was fantastic. Unfortunately, it was the highlight of the meal. The prosciutto & burratta was just ok. For $24 we got 3 moderately sized slices of prosciutto and a decent serving of burratta along with one sprig of basil. Our entree's arrived a little bit too soon but not annoyingly soon. We had decided to split the Osso Bucco and the veal Milanese. The Milanese arrived with the salad like topping wilted, almost looking like sauted spinach with a few cherry tomatoes on top. The Osso Bucco looked really good but was somewhat dry and not tender. Osso Bucco should fall apart when you touch it with a fork. We basically had to cut this with a knife. The bed of risotto surrounding it, was kind of thick and dry. I will add that the service was good to very good. My friend, who always loved coming here in the past, agreed that the restaurant had failed and that we should have gone elsewhere. For pricing context, our meal with one moderately priced bottle of wine and 2 additional glasses came to $275 (before tip). We had a lovely quiet meal with our "resort clothes or nicer" at this little gem in Portofino. We ate the wagu, the lobsters, and whatever was the specials. Fantastic bread. Kids had all the classic italian meals. We had a group of 10 and it was reserved way ahead of time, because it is a restaurant more suited, really, for smaller parties. We had a small reunion vacation and we had all just flown in that afternoon and could not bear to think outside the resort grounds, but wanted to spoil ourselves before hitting all the activities on vacation the next day. They delivered great service, and pretty good fine dining experience. Food wasn't stellar but was still very good. When you consider ambiance, service, smells, cleanliness, lighting and great menu choices, I would say this will be an annual reservation, should we stay at this resort again. I would give BiCE 4 1/2 stars if I could. I was so pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. There were some mixed reviews here on Yelp, but the menu looked solid, and we were looking for a more upscale spot at Universal for dinner, so I decided to give this place a try. I'm so glad I did. The ambience of the restaurant was lovely, and the service was highly attentive without hovering over. But it's really the food that impressed me. Everything from the gnocchi to the Caprese salad was delicious, but it was the tagliatelle with a tomato cream sauce and prosciutto that amazed me. God, it was maybe the best pasta I've ever had. Anywhere. And I come from a very steeped-in-culture Italian family. God, this pasta was closer to ethereal, than actual. Perhaps the Platonic ideal of what pasta should be. Even still, for three people who had one appetizer, two half Caesar salads, three entrees, and no wine - nearly three hundred dollars is a bit much. That's ok, we're on vacation. This was absolutely the best meal of our four day stay at this resort. Reservations are difficult to get, so you better book far in advance or hope you get lucky. We made the mistake of eating a large lunch which limited our ability to eat everything we wanted at this meal. I would recommend a light breakfast and light lunch. Or perhaps just eat breakfast and skip lunch altogether if you have an early dinner reservation. The Caesar salad was amazing, and comes with anchovies unless you request them to hold them. The homemade gnocchi were amazing and had a great sauce. Similarly the tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce was also fantastic... unfortunately we couldn't finish our portions. We still got dessert; tiramisu and flourless chocolate cake; but we were unable to finish these either. We took the leftovers back to our room, but since we had meals planned every day and we're at the park all day every day, we never really got to eat the leftover entrees. Hands down the best & our favorite meal we ate in our five days in Orlando! The concierge at Portofino recommended this place & we are so glad she did! The food & service were literally perfect! If I could give 6 stars I would because the food & the service were just that good! This was our fancy date night dinner & it exceeded all expectations! The host was kind enough to seat us about 20 mins earlier than our reservation! We started with the very generous basket of bread they bring to the table with the different olive oils for dipping. The breads were perfect & such a nice way to start our meal. Our wine was also great. The Calamari/Fritto Misto had great flavor & the marinara to dip it in was so good! The short rib pasta came highly recommended & it did not disappoint! It was the perfect portion size & was an amazing dish! The Marsala cream sauce was so good I didn't want to waste any of it so we used the bread to sop up what was left! My husband was very pleased with his veal! It was cooked perfectly & it was also wonderful! The tiramisu was an excellent way to end the night! Our server was great & the staff seems to work as a team! As soon as we finished a plate there was someone there to take it away for us! Cannot say enough good things about this place! We will definitely return here on our next trip to Orlando! read more

The ambience and location of this restaurant is beautiful. We had a large party of 10 & had reservations so we were seated quickly at a nice accommodating table. The wine selection was good & the food was also. It wasn't the best Italian food I ever had, but for the service, ambience and variety of dish selections it was good place to go. We couldn't decide what to get for dessert so we ordered a few different items! They were all fantastic. Don't skip out on dessert, everything was worth the calories. read more

Very disappointing and expensive! The only thing I can say the wine list is 3 times what you would buy it for in the store. The octopus was very tough and rubbery, the sea bass was cooked like I've never seen before. It was dusted with flour and pan seared which gave it an oily taste and dry. Wow! What a great discovery while on vacation in Universal. This restaurant, located in the Loews Portofino Hotel, is truly a wonderful experience. The hubby and I went have many days of amusement parks, and throughly love the experience we encountered. From the beautiful decor, amazing service, and truly delightful food. Our waiter was very interactive and fun to get to know. He was able to make amazing recommendations and made our evening special. I would highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you are looking for a break from amusement parks and want to have a fabulous dining experience. read more
