What a fun place! We celebrated a friend's birthday there and it was a totally blind idea to go there as none of us had been there before. They reserved a table for us with linen table cloths which was a nice touch. They even put out Happy Birthday balloons on the table. We went on a Wednesday night which was open mic comedy night. We knew it was comedy but didn't know it was open mic. The comedy was as you would expect. Some funny, some cringey, some both. It was so much fun. The food is gastro pub fare and very good! They also had available options from their more upscale dining room, but most of us had the wings which were huge, meaty and very tasty. The owner or manager that greeted us was very hospitable and made sure we got great service. The ambiance inside was nice. The dining room was pretty empty which is sad because if we lived closer we would come regularly. They have regular comedy on Saturdays and we will check that out. Thursday 7PM dinner for four. Had a glazed meatball appetizer which the table enjoyed. Moved on to a cheeseburger, Ossobuco, fettuccine with chicken and vegetables, and sarma (stuffed cabbage rolls). The pork Ossobuco was tender and fall-off-the-bone quality. Fettuccine was 10/10. The cabbage rolls were well conceived and seasoned nicely. Burger was also served as ordered. Finished with a Cupids Delight, made up with vanilla ice cream, warm brownie, and citrus drizzled whipped cream. Waitstaff was kind, interested in our minor substitutions, and even resolved a drink issue in a clever and effective way. Bar staff did cause a small delay in putting together our drink order due to an excessive focus on a single customer. But our overall experience was a good one, ending with a brief table-side thank you to the chef by our group. Do watch out for an automatic 20% service charge added to your bill. When we inquired about this, learned from the manager that this was a house preset to compensate the cooking staff. So be sure to further add a tip, as appropriate, for your table-side waitstaff, as this service charge is not going towards their efforts. read more

Stayed across the street at the Marriott Grande Vista and our son-in-law picked this restaurant based on reviews and location. I admit we were skeptical when we pulled up. We look at reviews and don't care what the place looks like. Pleasantly surprised when we walked in. White tablecloths, low lighting - I was afraid we were underdressed. We walked back a little further into the bar area and sat down. The nightly specials looked great. Prices were also great. We ordered burgers, the steak special, the pasta - 6 different meals in all. Every dish was delicious. Came out hot and presented beautifully. The steamed vegetables were as good as you would get in an upscale restaurant -- crispy and seasoned perfectly. Steak was cooked exactly as I ordered. Our friends went back again after we left and sent us pictures of the scallops which looked amazing. You are doing it right, Calypso. This place was just what I needed as a guest in this hotel/condo. Each person gets a free drink the first night of their stay. Service is fast. Delivery is even faster. A cute little find for those staying in a hotel and don't want to be overwhelmed with large amounts of people at tourist locations. Review #862. My wife and I attended a banquet that was prepared Calypso Bar & Grill. The banquet facility is adjacent to the restaurant. Let me tell you if the quality of the food that I had is any indication of what is being served in the restaurant then this is a Diamond in the rough. I had some prime rib that was probably one of the best that I've ever had. All of the other vegetables, and side dishes were equally prepared just as well. The staff and the bartenders that were running the event was very friendly, very courteous and to work on their game. Now the Evening that I was there, upon exiting the building, I noticed that they had signs saying cash only. I'm going to assume that they had computer issues with regards to credit card processing that evening. So you may want to check ahead. It's all about the happy hour. $7 for 10 wings, $5 for 2 slices of pizza, and $2 domestic drafts make me happy. The weekly specials are also really good. Everything from steak and pasta specials to margarita and buy one get one drinks. There is a pool table and dart board for those needing some additional entertainment. We stayed in the resort so it was convenient and fairly cheap. That is the only nice things I have to say. The service was abysmal. It seems like the staff is all related and maybe had friends and/or family dining in the outside area because that's where they basically hung out/socialized our whole stay. At one point we literally had to almost yell to get the attention of a server ( not ours) to get a refill on our drinks that we had placed with our actual server over 15 min prior. The food was passable, nothing special. Our whole experience was irritating. If you're wondering whether to eat here, or somewhere else- choose somewhere else. read more

Food was passable and it goes downhill from there, only 3 people working on a Tuesday night is acceptable especially since there were only 3 tables and two people at the bar. But we went 15 minutes without seeing a server after having ordered another round of drinks and when we finally managed to get somebodies attention they didn't even know we had ordered drinks. On top of that the staff is socializing with their family the whole time and at one point a woman is pouring shots at the bar with a toddler in her arms. Classy. Located on the resort, this place is super convenient if you don't want to drive/walk/take transit to another place. They serve all of the standard fare- burgers, wings, pizza, salads. The menu is nothing special, but they do have great specials. From 3-7pm they have good specials. The drinks are 2 for 1, and they have some decent prices on various menu items. I ordered the cheese fries, and my dining companions ordered the wings and a burger. Everything was okay, but nothing to write home about. The drinks were pretty weak. The server was very friendly, and all of the food came out quickly. There's also a back area with games. It's super convenient, but with the tons of restaurants that are in a 10 mile radius, there's not really a good reason to eat here unless you don't feel like leaving the resort. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE. Check out the rest of my reviews and you'll see that I rarely give a five star review. Here is what I love about this place. They have a lot of wonderful dinner specials and the menu is really varied. When I saw the prices, I thought that the food quality would be very poor. Not so! The food is good, served very quickly and is hot! The staff is very kind and personable. We were here on golf vacation. We would get back at about 7 PM come have dinner. We also noticed families going to the Disney resorts coming in for the New York style pizza. A lot of Disney vacationers are worn out and want a nice relaxing meal after a day at the parks. We enjoyed the wings, the pizza and lasagna which is homemade. I had the Calypso burger as well and loved it. Let me finish the review with this, we ate dinner here every evening. If you're staying at the resort here, you need to stop in and have a meal. Great Service, very nice people and prices are super affordable. My favorites are the Cuban sandwiches, I couldn't finished it by myself and I had to share it with my friend and we were very satisfied at the end. This has got to be MY FAVORITE hang out in all of Orlando. I am aware there are so many other big name restaurants and bars in Orlando due to its main reason to exist which is Disney but at the Calypso you are treated as FAMILY and a Local NOT as the tourist that you may be.
