Wow, Mount Vernon, you guys are getting fancy can we bring some of this to Centerburg! Lol. We happen to be up there running some errands and stop by this wonderful restaurant! I hate that I didn't take pictures, but I was so hungry, I had to eat immediately. I had the steak entrée and my man had the salmon entrée, both exceptional! I mean, the place is a little pricey, but we also had some drinks and very worth it. Excellent service excellent food! Pretty crowded on a Friday night, but we got there around 5:30 PM and sat at the bar in the restaurant. There is a difference! I wonder how crowded it would be at the bar during a Buckeye game. In the little town of Mount Vernon is this taphouse and let me tell you it is a GEM! They have a great selection of cocktails, mocktails, brews, and ciders to sip on while you take in the cozy ambiance. I got a Hemingway daiquiri and it was so refreshing on that 100% humidity day. Their semisweet cider was also crispy and delicious. The food really blew me away, specifically that fig pizza appetizer which had a crispy, airy crust and candied figs that just sang with the goat cheese on top. Standout french fries that I could have eaten all day long, i think it was the black garlic seasoning on them that had me just reaching and reaching for more! Just looking back at these pictures makes me drool. If youre in town, this is a must-try. read more

Excellent service and great food. We've eaten here twice in 2 days. We dined in the first night. We were seated by the window and enjoyed a nice street view. The food, a bowl of chili and Ruben sandwich was plenty for the two of us to share. The next night we ordered take out. Plenty of delicious chicken tenders and fries. read more

Enjoyable atmosphere, well appointed. 6 of us had dinner Saturday evening. They were quite busy but was able to seat us within 20 min of arrival. Very nice selection of craft beers. We enjoyed the German Hef style as well as a Red Ale.& IPA. Choices were diverse, from Salmon, Bacon Blue Burger, Turkey Sandwich,Pepperoni Pizza, Salads-Pistachio-Pear,Potstickers, Soup- Gazpacho & Broccoli Cheddar. Everyone was quite happy with their choice & no one had room for dessert sadly. Prices are consistent with the good quality & costs in today's world. I tried this place for lunch. I must say the staff are all very friendly and inviting. I tried the smash burger and it was ok. Honestly it was a little bland. The fries were not that good. They didn't seem fresh and were cold. They carry Cleveland ketchup which I've never seen. It's oddly sweet. I would come back and try something else. read more

Service was painfully slow. Ordered a sandwich/fries and a salad with salmon. Food was decent, but took forever. Fries/garlic aoli were fantastic. The bread that came with the salad would have been better if toasted and the dressing was bland. Salmon was a bit overcooked. And here's the weirdest thing. The bottle of water that was provided to the table was warm and tasted terrible - it was stale and seemed like it had sediment in it. Restaurant itself is beautiful, but pretty noisy. We started with artichoke dip and were not impressed. The pita wedges were great but the dip with liquid, tasteless mess. It could have really used some more parmesan or Alfredo... not sure. My wife got a burger with 2 patties, bacon, blue cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo, with season fries. She loved everything! I had the fish and chips (Lake Erie walleye). It was excellent meal. A nice crunchy, flavorful outside and delicious fish on the inside. Fries were well seasoned. It was a bit loud and lots of people. The service wasn't bad. It was a tad expensive. I was impressed with the prices so I thought they were more than fair. I wasn't impressed with the french fries that came with my fish and chips. We had a 11 people and there was a lot of screw ups. Two people didn't get their food and they had to go back and make it one girl didn't get her drink they had to go back and make it the server just took for granted that they were all gonna be on one check and they weren't but I'm going to be defensive for the server. He might've been new. Even some people didn't get what they had asked for on their hamburgers so there was quite a few mistakes. It is a very nice restaurant and as I said, the prices were good and it was clean. The restrooms were clean and I think most people were happy with their food. We went for lunch today, and my friend ordered cheese curds. She loved them. I had a couple and thought, "Eh." Well, then the rest of the meal came out, and I'd ordered a veggie burger and fries. They tasted surprisingly like the cheese curds. Frankly, the taste was off-putting; I found the veggie burger and fries inedible. I couldn't even eat a quarter of my meal. When I mentioned to the server that everything tasted like the cheese curds appetizer she'd brought out earlier, she didn't seem surprised. She told me the restaurant used beef tallow when frying. Yuck. Double yuck for a vegetarian who ordered a veggie burger! I love fries and was craving a veggie burger, but I was sorely disappointed today. The restaurant may want to post on its menu that beef tallow is used for frying. Give people a heads up. On a positive note, I do have to say their salads are excellent. Unfortunately, that's not what I ordered today. But it's what I'll stick to from here on out. read more

My son and I recently stopped into Bickerdyke Tap for lunch and had an overall enjoyable experience. It's a smaller establishment -- only about six four top tables plus seating at the bar -- but the space feels comfortable, welcoming, and like a good place to relax over a meal and a drink. The service was one of the highlights. Our server was friendly, attentive, and kept things moving at a nice pace. Our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and we felt well taken care of throughout the meal. We tried three dishes: the Fish & Chips, the Potstickers, and the Bickerdyke Burger. The Fish & Chips came with a tasty house slaw, though the batter on the fish could have used a bit more seasoning, and I did encounter a few bones, which took away from the experience slightly. The Bickerdyke Burger was good and cooked well, but I personally would have enjoyed a bit more seasoning to make the flavors pop. The potstickers had a nice texture, and while they weren't bad, the ginger was a little stronger than expected and tended to overpower the other flavors. Even with a few minor critiques, we still had a pleasant visit. The atmosphere and service alone make it a place worth returning to, and I'd be interested in coming back to try more items from their menu. This is a great restaurant that is hidden in a small town! I had the walleye special and it was a great, flaky batter that wasn't too greasy. The fries are shoestring style and seasoned well! The sauces! Oh the sauces! The peppadew ranch and aioli are incredible! The pepperoni pinsa bread was very good but the sauce was a little sweet for me. The cheese curds were an amazing appetizer and it was huge! The smash burger was also incredible! This is a great stop for great food! First time to this new restaurant in Mount Vernon. We were there for lunch and ordered the portobello sandwich, the pastrami Reuben, while our friend got the smash burger and a cup of the Italian wedding soup. Everyone seemed to be happy with their meal, although I thought the garlic aioli was a bit overwhelming (and that's from someone who really likes garlic). Overall good experience. There's a new kid in town. Everybody's talking 'bout the new kid in town. - The Eagles A brand new restaurant opened up on Main Street in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Anytime a new restaurant comes into the region, and I hear a buzz about it, I'm heading in. Mount Vernon is a small city with a quaint downtown that's worth spending the day in. They've had struggles with restaurants staying. It's not because they are unsupported by the community, it's because they lacked consistency and good cooking. Bickerdyke Table and Tap is owned by the couple that used to own the Village Inn in Gambier. They did a good job with that establishment so I was excited to see what they were going to do with the old location of Steins brewing. First, the interior renovation/ambience. Cool vibe. Low light, deep rich colors, a fantastic gothic fireplace, interesting art, beautiful wall paper (I love wallpaper) and comfortable seating. The place was packed out, but my dinner companion and I felt like we were having an intimate dinner. The interior alone made me happy. Sit towards the back- intimate, private. Sit towards the front, more open and communal. Keep this in mind when making your reservation. Be specific. The service was good. Obviously this establishment has only been open three weeks. The servers are still in a slight learning curve in knowing the food details, but our server was kind, very attentive, and genuinely happy to be working there. Now the important stuff- food. I started out with an extra dirty martini with Tito's. My first sip was fabulous, there was a fragrance to the martini that I couldn't put my finger on. Then I noticed the olives were different, no cheese, no garlic. I popped one in my mouth and realized there was a sliver of lemon peel suffed into the olive. Elevated my martini and I can tell you I will be going back for that martini over and over and over again. We started with the pork belly flatbread because if it involves pork belly, I can't say no. It was a flatbread, with a base of beer cheese, pork belly and sautéed vegetables, mushrooms, with a house barbecue drizzle and micro greens. It was very good but I would've liked the pork belly to be a tad (tiny tad) bit more moist, but I'd get this small plate again, no hesitation. My main was the was the Black Angus Steak topped with a chimichurri sauce. Here is where a star drops off, taking them from 5 to 4. I ordered it Medium (hot pink center). It came out well done. I pointed it out to the server, he offered authentic apologies, and offered a new plate. I refused. I knew it would hit the trash- I don't waste food. To many people are starving. It was still delicious, the fingerling potatoes were perfect and my side of green beans were crispy and slightly charred. I couldn't stop eating them. My table mate had the 4 Cheese Ravioli topped with a house made blush sauce. I took a bite...and knew immediately what I'd be ordering next time I came back. The grilled baguette was perfect for soaking up the delicious sauce. They don't serve dessert yet- we were told that's in the works. Coming soon. I always give brand new restaurants 3 tries, but I'd come back either way. For just opening their doors and having a fresh new staff...it was a good experience, priced well, tasty and enjoyable. I see a long and profitable future for Bickerdykes - as long as attention is given to the small (not so small) details. read more

Had shrimp and grits to honor Mardi Gras. I'm not sure what I expected but I was exceedingly pleased , this rivals any NOLA Resturant including Delmonico's. Shrimp is abundant, perfect amount of cheese. Surprised with spicy sausage, Very well seasoned with a beautiful sauce. I would give it 10/5. Keep it in menu! Food: Second to none in Mount Vernon. Service: The staff is amazing. Ambiance: Gastro pub while not being pretentious or obnoxious. We eat here at least once a week. Bickerdyke Burger: This is a must have. Soft bun, great beef with a great texture and taste you expect from a smash burger. Cheese Curds: Great! Unfortunately, this starter could be an entree when paired with their fries. Fries: Absolutely get them. Don't put any condiments on them except the house made garlic aioli. Garlic aioli: This deserves a mention on its own. AMAZING! Eating this on my fries takes me back to Canada and the Shawarma shops. An absolute must have. Burrata: The most amazing starter we've had. The salsa matcha verde (chili oil/flakes) is fire! The Pinsa bread is perfect crunchy-chewy in all the right ways. The char adds a welcome depth of flavor. I would absolutely eat multiple as an entree and be completely content. If given a choice between eating here, but having to pay for my meal or a free meal at The Alcove, I'll happily pay. There's no way to say enough good things about this place. Run to this place for a meal, don't walk. They are absolutely worth every dollar spent. read more

We tried Bickerdyke's for the first time last night. The food was really good. I tried their Salmon with Ramen noodles and it was fantastic. It had an Asian sauce that was super yummy. My husband tried the fish and chips and he really liked it. We had a wonderful server named Mary. She did a fantastic job The restaurant had been newly remodeled and it looked really nice. It's really cozy in Brickerdyke. My friend and I went for dinner. She had the fish & chips, I had the Peppadew Pinsa Bread as my entree. I love goat cheese and the Pinsa is loaded with it. It's a fluffy flat bread with the creamy goat cheese topping with the peppers and honey. It's not cooked like a pizza. I'd order it again as an app as it is intended. The fish and chips- the fries were kinda hard and the fish portion was small. I'd go again but I'd like to see the beer list for the taproom in the restaurant section since they said they could bring it from there and I couldn't find it in the website. The taproom was all but closed but the bartender indulged us in a couple of beer samples. Downtown Mt. Vernon is a great little area. read more

We started our evening in the tap room where the service was great. The bottle beer tasted flat but the pear martini was good. We had our drinks prior to heading to the the dining room area where we expected the menu would be a little more upscale since the dining room appeared more upscale. We were disappointed that the menu in the tap room and dining room were exactly then same. We were greeted by a rude waitress but the service from the waitress was great. Arrived at 6:30, finally got our meals at 7:50. I ordered the pastrami reuben and my wife order the turkey sandwich. Two meals that shouldn't have taken more than 15 minutes to make. When the food finally arrived the bread was over-toasted and the meat overcooked. The price of the sandwiches were $20 and $16. You could get the same quality, or probably better, at any deli for half the price. The only positives we took away were that the guest beer taps were good and the waitress we had was over-apologetic. The only offer we received to comp our terrible experience was the price one beer.
