Japanese Fried Chicken rice bowl
Noa M.

My boyfriend came across this new restaurant in a 614 Now article. Dömo Donburi is a ghost kitchen that has specific dates and times they're open. Ordering must be completed online via Grub Hub, Door Dash etc. There was a problem with our order, so we immediately got a call from the staff to rectify it; that's much appreciated! We got the tempura shrimp steamed buns, Japanese Fried Chicken Rice Bowl and Curried Chicken Rice Bowl (?). The fried chicken was served over rice, with a little bit of cabbage and a side sauce. The meal was filling and the chicken was perfectly crispy. The sauce added a lot of flavor... but there wasn't enough of it with the generous portion of chicken. We really loved to steamed buns, despite it being so spicy. It the bun itself was gloriously pillowy and was packed full of flavor. There are two in the container, by the way. Overall, if you have a chance, definitely check this place out for a satisfying and uncomplicated meal.

The portion size was generous, and the NY strip was tender, perfectly cooked, and so satisfying. Service was quick and the waitstaff were genuinely kind and attentive, which made the experience even better. The bathrooms were clean, and there's convenient street parking nearby, so getting in and out was easy. The overall ambiance is great and they have anime playing on their tvs. Great music too. Highly recommend if you're craving a delicious, comforting bowl of pho in Columbus!

Their seating arrangement are stools so if you need back support, you probably have to sit at the bar or booths. The Red Oil Dumplings (pork, shrimp, sichuan vinegar, cilantro) were my favorite. The dough to filling ratio was perfect. I was expecting them to be a little spicy but they didn't have any heat imo. I wasn't impressed with the ramen. It wasn't bad but I think I've had better ramen at other places in Columbus. My husband ordered the "spicy beef ramen" and that wasn't spicy either.

When I walked in the atmosphere was great, I could smell good food and heard conversations. There's a large area with large round tables to right and to the left are booths and almost all of them were full. The menu was a mix of Americanized Chinese, traditional Chinese and included Dim Sum as well. There were a number of dishes we didn't know much about and there were dishes being enjoyed by other customers that looked delicious. The wait staff was more than happy to explain the dishes and/or show us on the menu what someone was eating. They took very good care of us and shared the tasks of bringing our food, filling water, and just checking in. Now the food. The food came out very quickly! We all received a well filled bowl of rice. First out was the string beans, perfectly cooked, not droopy, and the flavors of garlic and hot peppers. Even though the peppers were there the heat was not overpowering at all. Next was the shredded pork with garlic sauce. The textures of the pork and bamboo shoots were a nice contrast and the sauce was perfectly balanced and craveable. The special grilled lamb, I was told, was some of the best in the city. It was tender and well spiced. Even when he said he was full he just couldn't stop eating it. For the dim sum order we got the shrimp dumplings, soup dumplings, scallion pancake, and sesame balls and they brought a soy sauce and a chili oil with them. The shrimp dumplings were tender but the dough was pretty sticky. I think this is normal and they were tasty with some of the oil on them. The scallion pancakes were very thin and gummy, this is the only thing we ordered that I would not get again. The soup dumplings were very small but packed a lot of flavor. The dough did stick together a bit so unfortunately some of the soup did leak out. The sesame balls were the hit and we're just the right amount of sweetness that we considered them desert. They were large, at least 2" in size, with a wonderful sesame seed covered exterior and a soft, sweet center. Chuan Jiang Hao Zi is a wonderful somewhat hidden gem. If you want traditional Chinese cuisine including all the different offal they have it and I would totally try it here over anyone else if I was brave enough. Portions were a good size for the price. I highly recommend checking them out!

I had the Kung Pao Chicken & it was by far the best I'd ever eaten. So many layers of flavor & heat. (a bit spicy for me, but I struggled through & loved every bite) Will definitely be back to explore some of the more "exotic" dishes on the menu. (Wasn't feeling to adventurous this trip) The restaurant was well decorated & the staff took great care of us. (saw a large selection of dumplings at this place too.....definitely be back to try those)

For my birthday, I was happy to try this place out since this location was close to home. Columbus is slowly becoming the place for all things foodie and geeky and I love that for us! This place is located on the 1280 W 5th Street and Northwest Blvd. There is parking in the front, and the restaurant is small and cozy. The seating is for parties of 4 to 5 but arrangements can be made so talk to a server. The menu offered everything from drinks, small place to ramen and I wanted to try more. We got the salt and pepper shrimp, the Kyushu Karaage (Japanese fried chicken), Hot tea and Takoyaki for a group of 5. Everything was piping hot and delicious and lightly seasoned to bring out the flavors of the overall dish. The servers were sweet and extremely helpful for explaining what things were and me, being a ramen nerd, could sit back and relax. I got the Kyushu Black Garlic Tonkotsu. It was so GOOD!! I love the taste of black garlic and the umami in the dish was so pleasant. The noodles were chewy, and the pork slices were so tender. The Tendernism! IYKYK. 5 stars for a great birthday meal that did not break the bank. Well, my friend covered my bill. :)

The stone pot does cool down pretty quickly so you should definitely add the meats first but I like the variety of the toppings and how it is very customizable. You can also get the broth spicy, like I did, and add chili oil for more of a kick. The noodles are slightly thin and chewy, and the portion is big. What makes this dish even more special is after a friend told me about the Chinese folktale that explains the origins of the Yunnan crossing noodle soup. It was supposedly created by a wife of a scholar who began to prepare the soup and ingredients separately and crossed a bridge every day to bring it to her husband (who was so engrossed in his studies that his food would get cold) so he could eat his noodles fresh and hot. This tale made me appreciate the noodle soup even more They have lots of appetizers too and I especially liked the fried salt and pepper chicken! The Mala chicken was also good but I wished it would have been fried and a bit more spicy!

The restaurant is warm, inviting, and cozy. We got the Classic broth and the Mala broth, as well as a Scallion Pancake. The broths were yummy, made well and flavorful but the Mala wasn't spicy. There is chili oil and vinegar on each table to help season your food. The toppings came out in little dishes and they were good and it's a good idea for customizing what you want or don't want. The broth comes out boiling hot and then you add your toppings and noodles. Each noodle dish comes with an abundance of noodles and a good amount of each toppings. I thought the beef and shrimp were both good proteins for our broths. The scallion pancake was okay. I felt like it wasn't as crispy as it should have been and it is one piece cut into 4. The scallion pancake was not very flavorful but it was good to try. Each bowl was around $15 dollars but they have some that are a bit more expensive. They also offer rice bowls and ramen! You can also purchase additional toppings Staff was very nice and accommodating but we didn't have much interaction. I recommend this place for some yummy noodles, a date, family outing, a good meal, or small groups!
