One of the best service experiences my husband and I have ever had! Brooks was so fantastic. We sent a text, like the website had, so he already knew what we were looking for. We tried out a few bikes, both modern and classic. He was very helpful, telling us what different models were for and the benefits of each. He switched out the seat and added a kickstand on my husband's, which had us sold! It's located in a nice, quiet neighborhood, making it an ideal location to try out the bikes. The price was great! There was even a little wiggle room for our budget. He even helped get them delivered to our house and surprised us by changing out the handlebar grips on one bike that we'd noticed were a bit worn down when we'd purchased. Really fantastic place! I sought out to find the most basic klunker bike available. Sure, there were some online made by big companies. In fact, they were probably cheaper than what i paid for this bike... That's not the point though is it? The point is i found a bike locally that was made from parts that would otherwise be thrown out. I don't know about you but that makes me happy. I was very close to pushing the button on those ones online until i did a quick little research for local shops. I knew some local shops carry these brands in store but something told me to dig a little deeper. I found this bike and it immediately peaked my interest. Brooks has the option to call or text which is nice if its late or the weekend. or maybe being simply on the move. He got back to me very quickly to get me to come see it. its all by appointment, which i really like. I tried this thing out on a quick test ride and i was smitten. I'm not looking to be serious about my rides even if they are quite a few miles sometimes. i wanted to feel like a kid again this bike checked all the boxes. And it fits me like a glove. The saddle concerned me but I honestly wont go back to larger saddles for big butt. This one seems to really fit my rising style. No gears. No cables. All Fun!!! Thanks Brooks. You can choose the seat, the extras, the gears, the braking system- you choose and they build the bike for you and give you the cost for each option up front. My used bike seems new. Needed a bike as I sold my Fuji road bike that was too hard on my neck bent down. I needed something more upright and not necessarily another road bike. I went to Craigslist and found a bike that was advertised by Bicycle Czar. They're located a few blocks from me so I went in to look at it. Dave helped me. The bike is a Bianchi Camaleonte Sport which is more of a commuter bike. It is the perfect size at 54 cm. The handlebars and stem were upgraded to a taller height from the original factory configuration and very well done. The tires were new with the "nubs" still on the tires. The tires are Vittoria voyager hyper 700x32 which have great reviews. It has front and rear disk brakes (mechanical, not hydraulic). I took it for a test ride and loved it. The brakes stopped on a dime. We negotiated the price and Dave threw in a stainless steel water bottle holder which matched the silver color of the bike. This bike was like new even though it was 5 years old. The upgraded flat handled handlebar and stem at worth at least a $150. It's the perfect riding position for me and that was worth buying it over a new bike. This bike is a keeper. read more

I've been meaning to write this review for awhile. I recently purchased my 2nd road bike from Bike Czar. The first one I bought 5 years ago when I was brand new to cycling and didn't want to spend a lot on a brand new bike so found a great entry level Trek. That bike got me around Lake Tahoe 3 times. I decided it was time to upgrade a bit and stopped by to see what was available. Lucky for me there was a model of a Trek I have been admiring and the price was reasonable. I was offered a fair price for the bike I was riding which made it easier for me to purchase the Trek. Dave provided me with superb customer service, kind and patient with my many questions. I have had to bring in my newer bike for a few adjustments and have been super impressed with Kenny who is a bike mechanic extraordinaire! He knows his stuff. Called in the morning about a specific bike before renting a car and driving out from the city. Upon arrival, I find that the bike I'd asked about was sold the previous day. So they either lied or didn't bother to check. Additionally, the bike wasn't even the size that the seller claimed it was. Don't trust them to fit your properly - they're only concerned with making a sale. read more

Had an old bike frame that's been in my garage for months and months. Was going to trash when a buddy of mine suggested I try selling it to these guys for extra pocket cash. The process was EXTREMELY SIMPLE. Texted some photos, Dave greeted me at my car 15 minutes later, kept the frame, said I'd hear from him in the next few days. The NEXT day I got a text with a very generous offer. Checks already in the mail. To too it all off he let my dirty busy eight year old come with us to the back room and check out all the bikes. Brooks not only sold me a great bike at a great price but he also really went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and welcome. I am a rookie cyclist and tend to ask a lot of "dumb questions" and he was very patient with me. He also went out of his way to help me to map a route for me to bike from home to work. When I saw him again, two-three months later, he remembered me and was thoughtful enough to ask me how the route was working out. I told him I had not tried it yet (not yet in the new office). I was bone tired. A friend of mine passed away and left me a bunch of bikes and bike parts and accessories. I spent days cleaning, and loading them in a utility trailer. I made an appointment to have Brooks look at my stuff. I had to change the appointment twice and they could not have been nicer about it. Long story short, I showed up as arranged, met Brooks and he looked over what I brought over. High quality stuff, but USED. My friend biked everywhere for decades. I did my homework and had a number in mind. Usually they will take stuff in and take a couple of days to assess the items. We agreed on a price on the spot when he saw the quality and condition of the bikes and parts and that my price was realistic, with just a little back and forth. Wonderful local business experience. Brooks and his crew are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely the "go-to" resource in town for a huge selection of quality used bike parts and reasonable prices. Gotta give props to Uncle Crusty's too. Between these two shops, you can always find the parts you're after - without having to pay top dollar for new parts (or pray that the ebay item you just bid on isn't worthless). Can't speak to their selection or pricing on used bikes. I just go for the great deals on parts. Had to knock off one star because they can be tough to get a hold of and their business hours are sort of whacky. Call first to check if they're open. This is definitely the place to go to look for good used bicycles. They have everything from old cruisers to high end racing bikes including some great vintage steel and carbon road bikes. I found them through an ad on Craigslist. I have been looking for a vintage steel racing bike that I could ride occasionally in place of my carbon racing bike. I found a beautiful Fondriest on their website and saw where they take trade-ins. I brought along an older French bike that I have not been riding and thought it was time to add an Italian heritage vintage steel bike to the collection. The guys set up the Fondriest for me and invited me to take her for a spin. It was love at first sight. They made me a decent offer on my trade-in and I was sold. I look forward to riding my "new" Italian road bike on some of my club rides in Sacramento. These guys sell quality bikes that have been inspected and tuned up and are ready to ride. I highly recommend them and will probably wind up buying a couple more bikes from them in the future. read more

After shopping around at several bike shops, I purchased my first road bike here with Brooks. He was very helpful and informative. He gave me a run through of what the parts of the bike are called and even taught me how to change a tube/fix a flat (I knew next to nothing going in to the shop). I'm very happy with the bike (Jamis Ventura) and even happier that I know I can go back to the shop with any questions and/or needs. Dave was also very helpful and set me up with a roadside repair kit. I saved a lot of money buying used and am happy to support a local business. read more

Thanks to Brooks and Bicycle Czar team I now have a stunning and insanely fast bicycle--that actually fits me! (I cycled cross country on a bike that didn't fit because I didn't know any better.) And so, I would highly recommend this shop; they have a great reputation, they work well with local vendors, and they treated me well. Example: Brooks listened carefully to my questions/concerns. In the end, we wisely ended up swapping out a stem, handlebars, and adding a lower gear in the back; the problem-solving was painless and effective. One small caveat---if you want to do a proper test ride you might have trouble finding a hill in the rather flat neighborhood. So, if you care about hill climbing, maybe do your homework before you buy? read more

I firmly believe that people should start out with a good used bicycle to help figure out what and were there cycling will take them and this shop is a fantastic place with huge selection to choose from. Dave was great to work with when we were recently searching for a good used disc brake bike, I have amassed a small collection of mostly used bikes that I have built up over the years from bare frames and will be shopping here much more in the future. read more

Called on the phone seeking help with reattaching a wheel on a walker for this disabled senior in his neighborhood as it seemed like it was the "neighborhood" cyclery like of old where you'd roll up and find help from some nice shopman with tools- (like in my youth) but instead was met on the phone by a brusque voice saying they don't do that. There was no enquiry as to my need or offer of a referral that I recall just a disinterested end. I was fully prepared to pay!! I went down to Trek and they, conversely, were EVERYTHING one would hope to find as a neighborhood cyclery. In just a couple of minutes or so they attached the wheel with a new bolt and refused payment except for the cost of the hardware--less than a couple of bucks. What nice people and a true community shop! read more

Its a great place to shop if you like feeling threatened and worried that the owner is going to lose it any second and beat you up. Watched him threaten a customer, an older man who must have been in his late 60's and was just trying to leave. He said nothing but shook his head in disbelief as he was walking away and Brooks (the owner and much much younger) came after him and started yelling at him and threatening him. All the man was trying to do was leave and he followed behind his car on foot all the way to the street intimidating and threatening the man. Just sickening to watch. Suggest you avoid this place like the plague or be the next victim of this horrible mans anger issues and vile temper. read more

First warning should have been when they never returned the phone message I left after a week went by. Trying again, I called ahead to mention I had a couple of bikes I wanted to sell, a kid's bike, and a tandem. After spending more than half an hour driving there, I was informed by Brooks that they were too busy to look the bikes over to give me a price quote then and there. And that since the bikes weren't in perfect condition, they wouldn't accept them on consignment. Since I had no intention of leaving the bikes and making another trip to pick them up if they gave me a lowball price, I pressed for a price on the tandem, and was offered a ridiculously low $300 for a solid tandem in good condition. It turns out that it is their policy to require one to leave a bike with them so they can "inspect" it at their leisure before quoting a price they would be willing to buy it for. This is clearly a manipulation of the seller, since the likelihood that you are going to make a trip back there to retrieve the bike after their low quote is much less than your refusal of the same quote if they give it to you while you're still there. I strongly suggest you avoid them. read more

OMG! Their prices are ridiculously high. $1100 for a nine year old bike that was only $1400 when new? You can find the same bike for around $500 on Ebay or CL. If you are buying here, you are being taken advantage of. Do your homework and your research before shopping here. Most of their complete bikes have been raped of the really good parts and had lesser parts swapped in. read more

I can only give Bike Czar two stars because they totally misrepresented the bicycle I bought last month. I was told by the owner it was ridden a handful of times by a woman that decided she didn't like to ride. According to the him, her husband had bought the bike as a gift. When my husband asked why the front crank looked worn he said the teeth are not uniform in order to give longevity to the chain. It turns out that the bike is seven years old and was actually owned by an acquaintance that had exchanged it for a new bike at TREK. He had ridden the bike at least 7,500 miles. So buyer beware when shopping at Bike Czar. I am very unhappy that I was lied to. We thought we had done our homework and knew what we were getting. It was a huge investment for us ($2,000 after tax). I won't go back. read more

I'm definitely not impressed. After looking for used quality bikes for some time I went on to their website and saw a bike I liked. The bike was listed for 225.00 which I thought was a fair price. After traveling there and checking out the bike, the price tags on the bike was $365.00. I told the guy that the Internet price was 225.00, and he said oh that's a mistake. He then asked another guy that was there, and he came up with a different price, but it wasn't 225.00. After being pissed off because they would not honor there advertised price, or said they would change it on their website I left, But not before looking at the other bikes. After looking at other comparable bikes at other used bike stores, I would say that they would be about 30% higher. read more

These two are just so damn friendly and honest and straight forward, I couldn't ask for better service. Came in with my crashed and bent older bianchi and they were so great about breaking my heart gently and got me right back on the road with a perfectly tuned and beautiful Bridgestone that they fit especially to me.
