Recently, my daughter's dropper post imploded the day before her final race of the High School season. Her post stopped working at a skills clinic on a Friday evening. I show up at opening on a Saturday with a tight timeline as we have to leave early that afternoon (completely unreasonable). No bike shops anymore in Sonoma, so I drove up to Breakaway Bikes in Santa Rosa, never being a customer there before. I met with Matt, what a great guy! He was very informative regarding my confusion about tubeless tires, and he even recommended that I only buy a rear tire, as my front tire was nearly new he told me. He saved me money right there, he didn't have to tell me that, he could have just been quiet and sold me two new tires, but he was HONEST, forthcoming, and very helpful. Matt sold me a rear tire, plus I bought a bike pump, a repair kit for tubeless tires, and he installed the tire, and added the sealant, plus he even added some fresh sealant to the front tire free of charge. All and all, I was in and out of there in less than 15 minutes. As I was driving away I thought to myself; what a great bike shop, what great customer service, what a great guy Matt was...and thank you for helping me get back on the trails today in JLSP. read more

BB has been our neighborhood bike shop and go-to for the past 7 years. They sold my son his first pedal (non-glider) bike. Son has now become an avid bike tourer, going on multi-day tours all over California. BB has always come in clutch with emergency tire repairs for us, and today was no exception. The day before a 2-day 150 mile tour, my son inflated his tires only have have the front one pop. He took it in to BB today, who replaced the inner tube and tire, and tuned up his gear shifter to boot, ensuring his bike is in tip-top shape for his ride tomorrow morning. I don't know where we would be without them. BB has been an invaluable addition to the neighborhood. I cannot say enough good things about their service, expertise, and availability. I'm so glad I called. Prior to contacting Breakaway Bikes, I contacted other bike shops if they could help me with tightening the handle bar to my diggler scooter and all said they don't offer repairs for scooters. When I called Breakaway Bikes, person on phone was unsure, but willing to help. He said to stop by at the shop and see what they can do to help. (great customer service btw, put me at ease) I brought over my scooter. Said that they'd be able to tighten my handle bar (thank goodness). We also had questions answered regarding further repairs that may occur in the future as well as helmets to wear some day. We went in to buy a helmet. First visit I tried a few on but the tall gentleman didn't seem very knowledgeable about the different helmets in stock. His explanation of one was convoluted at best. We went outside for a bit to discuss which option was best for me and when we returned to the store, there was another couple being assisted. Because there seemed to be only the one staff person, we waited... and waited... and waited, without any acknowledgement from the staff person. We finally left. On our second visit, we were the only customers present in the store. The same staff person was there, he saw us but he was looking at his phone. A few minutes passed with no acknowledgement of our presence. I finally said hello? and he said hello but continued to be engrossed in his phone. After another minute, he was able to assist us. We asked if a certain helmet could be ordered and he said his orders were already placed and he gets what he gets from the vendors. We left. Due to the lack of customer service and their inability to provide an avenue for needed items, we will not be returning to do business with this store. read more

Breakaway Bikes is an awesome bike shop. I have an older kind of funky cross-bike that I use specifically to ride up Los Alamos Rd. a couple days a week in order to stay fit. I got my Fuji road bike 5-6 years ago and went on a long hiatus with biking a couple of months after the purchase. My bike's been collecting dust since I was away for college and busy catching up with everything else. In the past year, I finally took the bike out a couple of times for a ride through Santa Rosa and Sebastopol with my friend. I notice it wasn't running as smooth as I remembered it to be. Of course, it's because I never took it in for a tune up. I looked up several other bike stores for tune ups and B.B. came in first with pricing (and the store's really close to where I live). I took my bike in and asked for deluxe tune up. They didn't offer me same day tune ups, but that was okay since I wasn't planning on riding my bike until the following weekend anyway. When I picked up my bike, I was delighted to see that my bike looks almost new! They did a great job cleaning the drivetrain, the frame, bottom bracket overhaul, and basically everything that came with the deluxe package. They even replaced my tubes! All this for $155! Best offer i have yet to find around town! read more
