The mark of a great bike shop with fancy high end frames is a friendly and knowledgeable owner. I popped in just to window shop and was impressed with the fancy frames and bikes for sale. There's shoes and gear here too as well as a small fold of Bromptons! I loved the casual and calm vibe and the few clearly 'not for sale' steel builds on display in the back...yet another good sign of a shopkeeper who knows and loves the craft. Outstanding! Echelon had expert service, great prices, parts I needed in stock, and super friendly staff who went out of their way to help customers. I'd priced getting a replacement part from the dealer where I bought my new bike. They quoted 2x the cost of what Echelon charged. They wanted to schedule a month out, while Echelon had my bike ready within 2 hours. The dealer was actually kinda nasty about it, since they mostly want to sell new bikes, while Echelon was super helpful, talked through alternatives, did some searches online even with me. I had purchased my first 29er dual suspension mountain bike from a local shop 2 years ago. After my purchase every time I went back for the free adjustments I felt like I was bothering them. I'd ask a question and they were totally rude and short with me. I went into Echelon a few weeks ago and spoke to Kevin. I learned more from him in 15 minutes about my bike than I did in 2 years from the other shop. He was super friendly and informative. I had his shop do a tune up and convert my tires to tubeless. BEST bike shop. The staff and the owner, especially Mariko are wonderful! Friendly, very helpful and they don't make you feel stupid. We came in at the last minute the day before the Vineman because my friend got a flat tire from her training ride around the area. Mariko took the time to show my friend how to fix a flat and she really made sure that my friend was comfortable should the unfortunate event happen again. We got tires changed here too since the treads were getting a little worn and they didn't charge us extra for installation. Even showed us how to do it on our own. Echelon Cycle & Multisport is seriously amazing! I was in the market for a tri bike since I have a couple triathlons coming up and I wanted to be able to be competitive in the races. My husband and I went up to Echelon and were blown away by the amazing customer service. Mariko showed me a couple of bikes, explained the pros and cons of each picked, and then I picked one that was perfect for me. Mariko spent hours with me fitting me to the bike and making endless changes to make sure the bike fit was squared away. I never felt rushed and Mariko answered my plethora of questions. I was able to take the bike for a test ride and never wanted to get off the bike. Mariko told me to ride the bike for a couple of weeks and then she wants me to bring the bike back for a final fitting. Echelon has group bike rides for all different levels that leave from the shop. They also have amazing triathlon gear for the tri geek in all of us. I loved that local riders and athletes would stop by the stop to chat with all the employees at Echelon. It's the dream neighborhood cycle and multisport shop. I'm super impressed with Echelon and will definitely be returning. read more

I brought my bike in for a tune up today. This was my first time using Echelon and I have to say I was very impressed. Phil, the mechanic who worked on my bike went over it with a fine tooth comb and did a fantastic job. In my opinion he went way above and beyond to make my bike ride like a dream. When I went in to pick up the bike he spent a lot of time answering all of my questions. I am very impressed with the service I received and will definitely be using Echelon again. read more

Great local bike shop. The folks at Echelon have been very helpful to me from the day I first walked in to the shop. On that day, I needed a tire because the tire I had was wearing fast when I had my bike on the trainer. They recommended a more durable tire. When I had trouble mounting it, they took care of me. No extra charge. My next equipment swap was a seat. Echelon has a program where you put down a $25 deposit and try as many seats as you want. They have a good selection of demos, and you can ride the demos as long as you like. When your butt is happy with a seat, the $25 goes to the purchase. I don't know that Echelon is unique with this program, but they certainly were patient and helpful with me. Ultimately, I decided I wanted to pony up to get a carbon fiber frame bike. The owner, Kevin, took a lot of time explaining the merits of the different bikes to me. Echelon carries mid to high end bikes, so you are going to spend some pretty serious money if you buy a bike here. I think I got a good deal on my bike because I was able to time the buy during close out season. Kevin did a fit on the new bike and said I can bring it back after I ride a bit to get the fit dialed in. I will definitely take him up on that. I will also take advantage of the year's worth of tune ups included with the bike. In addition to the bikes, they also carry swim equipment for triathletes. Kevin volunteers his time as a mechanic at races in Sonoma County, and he is involved in the local biking community. This is a family run local business that I am very happy to support. Not so well-informed staff. I brought my bike in for some brake adjustment and Kevin couldn't figure out what type of brake fluid was needed, said he never heard of Zoom brakes before. Either they just only want to work on high-end racing bikes and didn't want to say that, or, need more training? I rode home disappointed. I have a few Cervelo's between the wife and I and Kevin has always had Cervelo specific parts I have needed over the years and installed bottom brackets in the past as I didn't have a special tool (I like doing all my own wrenching that I can), so when looking for my new S3 Di2 Disc I was hoping to buy here local. Most all my bikes in recent years have been 56cm with somewhere around 25mm - 35mm of spacers under the stem, Kevin & Phil at Echelon strongly believed I would be happier on a 58cm with the new integrated cockpit slammed then running spacers on a 56cm, they said it would be stiffer, handle better, ect. they were right. Already love this thing! A few mods before my first ride, changed the R.A.T. Cervelo axles out for a set of Robert Axle Project axles to clean it up a bit, changed the discs to black Dura Ace and slid on a new set of Conti 5000 TdF edition tires. Will be checking in with them to add I9 or Reserve 45/65 combo wheelset and other bikes in the future, good people here! read more

Going into Echelon for the first time was great! I didn't feel the pressure to empty my wallet when I asked a bit of help and guidance. They will only charge what is necessary and not replace parts at random like I have experienced at a few other local shops. I felt confident leaving my bike with them even though they are not a Specialized brand shop. As for the rest of the shop, I didn't find and garbage products and their prices were great as well! This is a good shop in an excellent location. Free parking in Railroad Square is impressive. I came in earlier in the week to get information about a tune-up for my 2009 bike. Apparently I kept my bike in such a great condition that I just paid for a pro-rated tune up since it was so light. I did get a call about chain replacement to a new Ultegra chain. I said that was fine, but let it be know, and from speaking from others who have used this shop, they almost always want you to replace the chain during a tune-up. I believe they'll try and up sell you for a new cassette. If you know your equipment, you should know when to change your cassette as well. With the new chain, my drive-train is super quiet again. They carry a wide variety of bikes, textiles, and triathlon equipment. Prices are average, but it is a local shop that you should support. read more

I bought a Cervelo P5-6 from Echelon back in March 2014 - needless to say, for a lot of money. Everything seemed OK, despite the terrible bike fit that they provided - remedied by Pedro at Sports Basement. I was told that the base bar had been switched out as part of the 3T Aduro base bar recall. It has recently come to light that this was not in fact the case, the base bar failed, luckily not injuring me. When I checked the serial number, it turns out that this bar should have been part of the recall and is now being taken care of by Cervelo. To add insult to injury, I switched to the low mount so that I could still use the bike while I wait for the base bar to come through. Upon switching it out I noticed that there was tape around the wire that connects the shifter to the junction box and on to the front derailleur. It appears that a bike mech (at Echelon I presume) had pinched the wire when installing the aerobars. The wires are so thin that when I was changing it they came apart essentially ruining the front harness. I am astounded that a bike shop would fail to inform a customer of these issues when purchasing such an expensive product. I was assured that the base bar had been switched out as part of the recall and was not informed that the front harness had been compromised. Furthermore, I did not receive any documentation or anything when purchasing the bike. I didn't complain at the time, I had already paid for the bike when I asked for this. I have never bought a bike before or since that did not come with various spare parts, documentation etc. Needless to say, I do not recommend Echelon and will not be shopping there in the future. read more

Being new to Sonoma County I wasn't sure what to do when my Felt F55 aluminum frame cracked under the seat post. Luckily I found Echelon! (and luckily I bought a Felt, which comes with a lifetime frame warranty. Felt, you rock!). Echelon worked directly with the local Felt rep to get the new frame swapped out and I was riding on a new F5 carbon in no time. Not only were they a huge help in working with the manufacturer but they gave me some good advice about my riding setup as well. I would definitely recommend Echelon to anyone in the North Bay Area looking for a great LBS. They are knowledgeable, approachable and listen to what you need rather than just pushing products on you. Plus, the shop has a good selection of road and tri bikes to gawk at. Was spending just a few days in Guerneville for chilling and getting in some nice road rides. Snapped a derailed cable on Coleman Valley Road mid Wednesday afternoon. I thought my next day's ride was now shot. I called Echelon at 4pm. Brought the bike in by 4;30. Kevin had it fixed while I waited and I'm ready for tomorrow's King's Ridge ride!! The staff isn't very helpful they gave me no indication that they could make routine repairs and maintenance on my mountain bike. The work they did do on it I didn't ask for on top of that they didn't even do the work I requested. They had no problem charging me $126.00 to grease a bearing and put on a chain that was not even needed. The had the bike for 2 weeks which during the duration they felt no need to contact me to update me on the progress on my bike. I just showed up one day to get the bike and they told me they were waiting for a part but the bike was sitting put together ready to shove out the door with a bill for nothing done I asked.
