I was gifted a beach cruiser for my daughter to use on campus. It was in need of nee inner tubes and grips. I have driven by this location more than a dozen tones so I decided to give them a try. When you arrive there is a bell to ring before entry. Employees here are mask-less, so if that is something that concerns you, this might not be the location for you. Two men were servicing a couple of women and I told one of them what I needed. He said to bring the bike in so they can look at it. He confirmed what was needed and said my wait time would be 15 minutes. He went out back to service the bike, the older gentleman was working on another bike on the back of the store. They are a bit pricey and did not have much of a selection for handlebar grips. Plus side the older gentleman was bothered that the seat on the bike appeared loose and fixed it. The younger gentleman helped me load the bike in my car and gave me a registration card for the bike in case it gets stolen on campus.

"This feels awesome, it's now even better and smoother to drive". Thank you Ted, we will definitely come back.

I'm not a person who leaves reviews, but definitely this store deserves it. Ted is the best! He is very accommodating and helpful even though we came almost the time that he's about to close his shop. He was able to fix our bikes. He even teaches us how to take care and maintain our bikes. You would really feel that he really likes to help. When we rode our bikes home, my twins said "This feels awesome, it's now even better and smoother to drive". Thank you Ted, we will definitely come back.

Ted owns this shop and he was amazing. He was closed and I called and he picked up the phone and said he can come over in 6 min and show me the bikes.... Well that to me is going above and beyond-good customer service. He had a lot to choose from and let me ride the bikes around... he helped me pick a bike And was very patient. I'll be back m Because it's not too far from my place. They also offer parking in back. And if you want to grab lunch there's always the hanger across the street. read more

This place is TERRIBLE. Do NOT bring your bike here unless you want horrible customer service and a half ass job done on your bike. I dropped my bike off on 5/04 for a tune up and new set of wheels, was told it'd be ready by Monday 5/07. I hear nothing all day. I call Tuesday and get a BS runaround excuse and that they'll have it ready that evening. I don't hear back once again. I get a call Wednesday evening only for 'Jeremiah' to tell me he's about to start it!! Wtf!?! I don't hear back again til Friday evening (an entire week later) that it's ready. So I pick it up Saturday morning only for Jeremiah to have the AUDACITY to ask me to give them a 5 star review on google! just wow. This is their review. My back tire is still wobbly after he said he'd fix it. They make you wait outside for extremely long periods of time and don't even acknowledge anyone or thank them for waiting. It's plain terrible. Be my guest and find out. I'd give ZERO STARS if I could. read more

I brought my daughter's bike in and they fixed a small part that was broken for free as well as refurbishing a helmet that I left there by accident for me. I can't say enough about how generous and kind the people are that work there. This is a great neighborhood shop and I won't be taking my bikes anywhere else. read more

Wow, what an absolute joke. Brought my bike to get service. Owner said it would take 10 min so I decided to get job done. They began working on my bike 20 minutes later. A few minutes into servicing my bike another customer shows up with his bike. He stops on mine and starts on his which lasted about 15 minutes. By the time I decided I was going to take my bike somewhere else 40 minutes had already by. They didn't know where they had left off. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

As a result of Coronavirus I, like many others, have been shut inside the house and getting a little stir crazy. So I decided to pull my bike out of the garage and after sitting for years, it was in desperate need of repair. I took it to Jeremiah at Bicycle Works. He was very professional. He tuned-up my bike, put new tires and inner tubes, and fixed the brakes. My bike now runs like new. He even gives discounts to teachers, military, first responders, etc. read more

Bicycle Works is the oldest Bike Store in Long Beach and has a large selection of tires, tubes, wheels, parts and accessories for the Long Beach/Lakewood area. We service every kind of bike and also provide mechanical service on e bikes. We sell new and used Beach Cruisers, Children Bikes, BMX Bikes, City Bikes, Commuter Bikes, Hybrids, Mountain Bikes and Road Bikes. Bicycle Works provides dependable bicycle repair, tuneups, and restorations. We offer Student Discounts, Military Discounts, Police and Fireman discounts. We also have a limited supply of bikes for rent on a daily or weekly basis.

History

Established in 2017.

Bicycle Works is the continuation of the Lakewood Cyclery bike shop that began in 1948. We also incorporated the bike shop known as California Cycle Sport that began in 1960. Bicycle Works came under new ownership in 2021 and continues until the present time.

Meet the Business Owner: Ted G.

I have been riding bikes and repairing them since I was a boy. In 1977 I was part of a bike tour from Alaska to Argentina that we called "Pedaling For Christ." In two years and two months we traveled through 15 countries and covered 23,400 miles on ten speed bicycles. That was when I learned the importance of fixing a bike the right way. I also became fluent in Spanish and welcome those who speak Spanish to the shop.

At first, they asked me to leave the bike overnight, but after explaining my situation, they decided to help me out, which I genuinely appreciated. The staff member was friendly and helpful, and the work was completed when I came back. That said, I was a bit surprised by the overall experience. For $40, I expected a little more clarity and consistency. When I asked about labor pricing, I was told they charge different prices for different things, which felt a little unusual and unclear to me. Also, while I understand I didn't specifically request sealant for the front tire, I just assumed it would be part of the service since the rear tire was being handled. In hindsight, that may have been my expectation, but it still felt like something that could have been communicated more clearly. On top of that, the pricing just felt high for the amount of work done, especially given how quick the job likely was. It gave me the impression that I was charged a bit more due to the timing and urgency of the request. Overall, I appreciated the willingness to help me out last minute and the friendly service, but between the pricing and lack of clarity, it left me with mixed feelings. I probably wouldn't return based on this experience.

Owner Jeremiah is a bear of a man, very intelligent and possessing a good sense of humor. People were lined up outside the door to his shop and he worked hard to accommodate everyone. I showed him the problem with my bike and he said, "Wait and let me get a tool for this." He was right back and within another five minutes the problem was solved.
