While I haven't taken one of MotoQuest's organized tours, I have taken advantage of their Transport Specials to move bikes between their West Coast locations. Each time I have worked with MotoQuest, their staff has been top notch. Very attentive to what my needs will be on the ride, offering luggage options to carry all of my gear, answering any questions I have about the bikes, and on one occasion when it was needed, they even stored my motorcycle at their Long Beach location while I was renting their bike. I recently returned from a ride from Long Beach to Portland. As with all of my experiences, when I arrived, the bike was cleaned, fueled, and ready to go. In fact, this bike, an F750GS, was brand new. As expected for a new machine, it performed flawlessly, and I had a fantastic time, enjoying the Highway 1 ride, along the coast, over the Golden Gate Bridge, and up into the Redwood Forest, before exploring the towns and beaches along the Oregon coast. Along my ride, I got a call from MotoQuest's Portland location to make sure that I was enjoying the ride, and when I arrived, I was greeted with a cold water, and a place to change into my street clothes for the flight home. If you're looking to rent a great bike from a great group of people, MotoQuest is the place to go.

Everything they say in their website is true. I trained with a guy named Iilyas. He was super cool and chill and didn't freak out when I messed up. In the first session I was working all the way through third gear and coming to a good stops. In the second session my slow speed maneuverability improved. It's actually easier to go fast than slow. I took the third session for fun because I didn't have a bike yet and I just wanted to ride for two hours. If I could afford it I would come again just to keep training and learning. 1 on 1 was a lot less intimidating as well. And when I came I had only ever been on a bike once in a parking lot with my brother and never left third gear or understand what a clutch or break was. Just one session and I felt comfortable on a bike. Also, they had headphones in the helmet talking me through every step. It was great.

Unfortunately, my experience with the service department was the exact opposite. They came across as uninterested and acted like helping customers was an inconvenience. If you work in customer service, making customers feel welcome should be part of the job. A few days after my purchase, I received a text asking for feedback about my visit. I didn't hold back--I explained exactly how disappointing my first experience had been. Within minutes, I received a phone call from someone at the store who genuinely wanted to understand what happened. That immediately got my attention. I explained that I had driven over two hours because I had previously made an online purchase that went perfectly, and it gave me enough confidence to visit the store in person. I also shared my concerns about how I was treated by the parts department. He listened, apologized, and told me he would bring the issue to management because he genuinely cared about making things right. To me, that's what great customer service looks like. Anyone can make a mistake, but not every business takes the time to listen, follow up, and address a customer's concerns. On top of that, they have competitive prices and a great selection in stock. Because of the way they handled my feedback, I wouldn't hesitate to make the two-hour drive again. Hopefully, the service department improves, because the rest of the experience and especially the way management responded earned my respect.
