Shout out to my man Loren who fixed me up with brand new disc brake pads and brake cables and lubed up a squeaky chain in less than 45 minutes. He was fast, knowledgeable, and super friendly even on a busy day. We were on a bike tour from San Luis Obispo to Santa Barbara. Good thing he fixed me up with fresh brakes because then he recommended that we take N Refugio Road from Solvang to Santa Barbara. Hardest climb of my life on loose gravel, steep gradients, with loaded bikes. Hardest descent of my life for sure tested out those brand new brake pads. Don't ride off the cliff edge. Great views. 10/10 would do again. read more

Loren at bike works is amazing as a bicycle fountain of knowledge and a customer service force of nature. I couldn't be happier and more grateful as he saved my weekend Gaviota Hot Springs trail plans (steep!) Late afternoon on a Friday I discovered my brakes where fading really bad. I called the shop for the first time and left voice mail thinking "no way will I hear back till Monday", but he called back in minutes, and had me come in right away. He was busy but took the time to consult several references and found the best metallic & semi-metallic combination for front & rear pads in stock for my E-MTB. Had a mechanical on a bike ride out to Jalama Beach...had to soft pedal and coast back to town (no climbing gears)....he took my bike in immediately and got me back on the road again within minutes, but also took the time to give me some advice on further repairs my bike may need...brought my bike to my mechanic when I returned home (I live in the Bay Area) and he said he did a great job on his temporary repairs....will definitely go to this shop when I'm in the area if I need to! read more

Didn't get the job done . A minor break job turned into 5 days in shop . When I pick up bike . i was told he couldn't do the front breaks and now my bearings ain't peddle are lose and it was not like that when we dropped it off . Was charged $95 Then, when we tried to leave the back tire wouldn't even move or go around he had to fix it. I really did not like his vibes. He was very rude and was not very friendly at all. I would not recommend taking your bike to this bike store at all. read more

I can't say enough good things about this bicycle shop. The guy who runs it is completely honest and reliable -- a rare find these days. He doesn't try to upsell you or push things you don't need. He tells it like it is and genuinely cares about helping you, not just making a sale. Every time I've come in, whether it's for a quick fix, a tune-up, or advice, he's been fair, fast, and thorough. I always leave feeling confident that my bike was taken care of the right way. You can tell he really knows his stuff and takes pride in doing things the right way. I took my bike in August 13th for a simple adjustment. Lauren quotes me $20. Says the bike will be ready next day. After closer inspection, he informs me that chain rings are worn,needs new chain and cable plus crank needs replacement. Now estimate $200.00. Needs to order parts. I wait another week to contact him. "They sent wrong parts. Will have to modify myself." I'll have it ready by Friday.the 22nd." Friday comes and goes without contact. I call and try to leave a message. He has no answering machine. I show up today,2 weeks after dropping my bike off and find a note on his shop door "Closed for vacation.back September 4th. I will not do business with this shop again. read more

I took my son's bike in for new brakes and it came back needing a new crank! The guy refused to repair what he broke! Worse customer service and dude appeared to be on drugs. I believe he broke the bike to expect us to pay him to fix it. I believe he thought, because it was my son's grandmother who took it in, that he could take advantage of an older woman. We love to support local and sadly this is the only shop left in town and in our opinion it failed. First our bike was not done when promised. Second it cost more than stated price. Third the "repairs" were not done properly or at all based on a second opinion when the the bike failed on first ride after "supposed repairs". We attempted to give this shop the opportunity to make things right. The owner disagreed with the other well known shop We have receipts, texts and parts from second shop. When we picked up the bike originally the owner didn't even remember it so how could he know he completed work. Our experience here was not good. read more

Disappointed with the customer service from the time I walked in the door. I needed to replace a set of brake pads which they did have in stock. However the guy in the bike repair area lectured me about taking care of my bike based on the one set of pads I brought in. I didn't bring my bike in. I take very good care of my bikes. I think what he could have done better is just sold me the pads and not offered me his opinion. He doesn't know anything about me or the condition of my bikes. On the positive side the lady behind the cash register was very nice and she thanked me on my way out. Also the price for the new pads was very competitive. read more

And a rider so he knows what he's doing and what he's talking about. He's well versed in all bicycles and is super friendly and knowledgeable. I'm thankful we have a shop like this in town. Thanks for that Loren I know and hope the quality work you do will result in high praise and copious business in 2021 and beyond. Now speaking from a customer point of view my only suggestion is that he present written estimates and change orders when necessary for customer assurance and expectations promoting better communications with the customer. I chose this bike shop to purchase a piece if gear, come to find out it wasn't substantial enough for where I was going to ride. I had the item for under 2 weeks. I finally had the time to return it and was talked down to as if I was trash. He told me no, he would only give me half of my money because he didn't want to take a loss. It saddened me as I wanted to support what I thought to be a really cool guy/shop. Sad to say I was wrong. Think twice before you buy anything from here. It was a 40.00 item, really? I told him you are going to lose a customer over 40.00? He could care less. read more
