I LOVE how many different & unique coffee drinks they offer on the regular menu & as their specials!! There are always so many things that I want to try so it takes me awhile to decide, but the employees are always super friendly & helpful. It's super cute & cozy inside. Makes you want to just sit & drink coffee or tea there all day. Yummy drinks & food. Only downside is parking can be difficult. Great coffee. My favorite is the iced soy vanilla nut latte! Always yummy. The atmosphere is also nice if you're looking to have a coffee date with someone or do some work. Some of the employees aren't too happy but maybe I always catch them on an bad day. I always recommend this coffee shop to visitors! read more

My "office away from the office," Bidwell Perk is a great place to meet friends or clients and enjoy a latte and something tasty (the fruit & bran muffin is my favortie, but the quiche is scrumptious!) either in the clean, cozy cafe or the lovely patio with fountain. Love this place, good food. Bagels are great, and so are the pastries. Their seasonal drinks are usually good, I love the Godiva Mocha Iced because it's not too chocolatey and the whip is great. The workers aren't the friendliest when busy but overall it's a good shop. I suggest the Mediterranean salad and The bomb bagel. read more

This is a wonderful place to go and think, and regain some sanity.

The decor is so cozy and comfortable. Love the look! Good ice tea! Cashier is constantly friendly and helpful. Takes to long when I order a specialty coffee. They use to carry delicious pecan sticky buns and cinnamon rolls with real homemade icing and homemade flavor but recently changed. That is a disappointment because the new pecan roll has a odd rancid aftertaste and the cinnamon roll tasted like a machine made it and was nothing special! The parking intimidates me but I always manage to find a spot. Please bring back the home style pastries .....they really made my day! read more

Bidwell Perk has always been a nice place to grab some coffee and do homework at. However, my complaint is regarding the internet. It seems that every time I've gone within the last two weeks, the internet will abruptly cut out. I brought it up to an employee who stated that she was aware of the situation. As I mentioned this, she came off as dismissive and it was if I was an annoyance to her for mentioning it. I'm considering taking my business elsewhere at this point. read more

Great Coffee, Please turn down your music! Bidwell Perk has been one of my longtime locally owned favorite coffee shops for more than a decade! The coffee is amazing, the pastries are delicious and it has a great relaxed, cozy atmosphere. The feel inside is is quintessential Chico, and I love that! Today I was in around lunch time and it was fairly crowded, as it normally is. Unfortunately, there was extremely loud music playing all throughout the restaurant. I'm in my mid thirties and am not usually that sensitive to noise, but this as awful! It was so loud that it was difficult to have a conversation with someone sitting next to you at the small tables. At one point my daughter asked to leave because she couldn't handle the noise anymore. The music was so loud it almost seemed as though they were going for a "vibe" scene. I sure hope they consider turning it down a little, or I don't think j I will be spending much time here in the future! read more

Mocha was light on chocolate and the barista was not paying attention even when told a order was up. She spent a lot of time chatting with her friend. It took 5 minutes to get my drink and I was the only order up. I will head back to Cal Java tomorrow. read more

This place is great! There is a patio outside, the coffee is delicious (I had the New Guinea French just black), and the inside is well kept and looks nice. I liked that if you have your drink there they give you a glass mug to drink out of instead of the plastic/foam to go cups other coffee shops give you. It's relatively inexpensive too, just a few bucks will get you a cup of coffee, tea, or whatever drink you're feeling. An added bonus is that there are couches to sit on in the back of the coffee shop if you want to sit more comfortably and there is free wifi. Check this place out if you're looking for a new coffee spot! read more

I Have been coming here for over 5 months now and it never seems to get better. I have never, EVER experienced such slow barista's. Its painful to watch. It doesn't matter if there are 5 drinks ahead of you or none you will NOT leave without waiting AT LEAST 10 minutes for your drink, And there is no reason for it. I have never seen this type of slowness and its not just one barista, it seems to be all of them. I am confused. I don't understand and I will not be going here any longer. The drinks are ok but the service is absurd. I have never ever waiting longer then 10 minutes ANYWHERE to get a freaking latte. Fix your service time and step into he 21st century. read more

Though I have resided in the Chico area for most of my life I hadn't really discovered the perk until a recent move put it in the path of my morning travels . The place is cozy but it feels like you walk into grandmothers house from the 60s. The place has the ugliest dust collector decorations (its got to be a health violation). Interior decoration aside, the product is OK, nothing more. Depending on what you're getting- pastries- I believe they come from the Tin Roof Bakery here locally, to they are usually pretty good and fresh each day. Coffee- One look at their "specialty" drinks and you wonder why even put any coffee in there if you are gonna cover it up with sugary substances and whipped cream and flavored powders/sauces. You gotta be kidding me. This is no real coffee shop; go to SF if you want really good coffee, this place is a step above Starsucks. The espresso machine looked janky and cheap. Tea- a friend of mine had ordered some chamomile tea and the water was way too hot. Staff is friendly though; seems to be all students. read more

I actually really like the atmosphere and the food they sell, but my biggest issue with this place is timing. It doesn't matter if they have a ton of people, or just a few; it will take no less than 10 minutes to get your food or drink item to you. I honestly don't understand why it takes the same amount of time to get my latte to me as it does a specialty salad. Unfortunately, I can't get away from it because I have business meetings here at least twice a month (it's the most central place for us to meet) and we always lose out on vital productivity time by virtue of even placing an order. I also find it perplexing because I've never been in there when any less than four employees are working, so I'm at a total loss to understand the lack of haste. The employees are friendly, the food is great, and the drinks are better than anything Starbucks can come up with. I just wish they could get orders out a little bit faster. read more

I was at Bidwell Perk for the 4th time recently and found that something has changed. The coffee's flavor was uncharacteristically weak and overly sweet. Plus, the quality of the pastries also suffered. The dough seemed to be so-so--not the usual full bodied,, full-yeasty flavored pastry I had already gotten used to. Also way too sweet. I tried a cupcake too. The cake crumb was not much better than what I could have produced from a grocery store mix. If they are in fact using a mix, I would recommend that they go with the mixes produced by the King Arthur Flour Company. That goes for frostings, bars, and other no-cake products. Is there someone new in the bakery or in the coffee buyer's skit? Some is different and it is not the pries. I am willing to pay premium prices for premium coffee and pastries, but not for either one that are no better than what I could get at one or another of the atea's finer gricery emporia. read more

The location and ambience of this coffee shop is great. The items on the menu are also fresh and flavorful. However, it continued to notice that the staff are surprisingly not as friendly as you would expect. I've been to Bidwell perk on multiple occasions and I find myself being looked up and down one too many times before receiving service at the ordering counter each time. I understand staff having bad days, but if it happens regularly to me, I think it'd be just to think it happens too frequently. It makes it difficult to feel welcome and relaxed. read more
