    Honey Baked Brie
    Danielle B.

On a recent trip to Toronto, I was trying to find a nice restaurant to meet a friend and her hubby for dinner. I was hoping to try a multi course tasting menu, but my friend has food allergies so I have to be mindful of that when trying to book something. I ended up asking her to choose the restaurant - she said Biff's is a place she often books for work dinners due to location and she said the food is really good. It was much nicer than I expected (just going by the name) so I was pleasantly surprised. It was a little dark inside with spacious booths. I didn't get a good look inside the rest of the restaurant, as we were seated quite close to the entrance. We arrived during happy hour but they really didn't have much in the way of happy hour food options, other than half-priced oysters. Lucky for me, I was craving oysters so I started with a half dozen. They were not shucked very cleanly but they did taste really nice, and the mignonette was delicious. The server did not say where they were from and I forgot to ask. My friend and her hubby shared the honey baked brie, which they seemed to enjoy. I didn't try it myself but it looked good. For the mains, two of us had the beef bourguignon, and one chose the coq au vin. The portions were generous and everything was very nicely presented. Very rich flavours in the beef bourguignon; a dish I haven't had in years but instantly reminded me why I love French food. We did manage to save some room for dessert, so we ordered 3 different ones to share: crème brûlée, chausson aux pommes, and the dark chocolate brownie. All three were quite nice, but I especially enjoyed the apple turnover. My only complaint would be about the drinks. I ordered an old fashioned and the server asked which whisky I wanted - since the Lot 40 is already listed on the menu for their True North old fashioned, I said I wanted Lot 40. I didn't check my bill closely enough until I got home where I discovered I was charged an extra $3. I'll be more mindful of this in future, but I didn't expect an up-charge for something already included in the drink!

Biff's is a French hideout by the famed O&B chain of restaurants. They had closed down for a few years to renovate and this is my first visit since then. Overall the restaurant offers good value in the downtown core. I ordered a prix fixe lunch for $40 with a $10 dessert add-on. For appetizer, their chicken liver parfait is as great as before. The portion is quite large for an appetizer and the liver pate was smooth and flavourful. The choices for the lunch set menu was rather limited. I ordered the smoked salmon crepe but was rather disappointed with the crepe skin. It was very dry and the texture was very jarring against the rest of the dish. For dessert, I ordered the creme brulee. It was served with a cookie and some fruit toppings. The torched layer was done beautifully with an almost runny custard below. Biff's still offers good value for money in the downtown core with some classic French fare and attentive service. Though some misses keep it from 5 stars, the standouts earn it 4.

Biff's is such a romantic little spot in downtown! The food is amazing, the interior is cozy and the service was top notch. We went here for an anniversary special date night and were greeted so warmly by Chetan who was the manager and our server who was equally amazing! We ordered their steak that comes with fries and the duck canard for mains - both the meat items were super flavourful and juicy, with the right amount of fat to meat ratio. We are a fan of desserts so we had to get both the crème brûlée and the lemon tart and again, both were fantastic. I would definitely come back for sure!

An O&B bistro with happy hour and prix fixe 3 course dinner menu at a great location. Happy hour is up to 6pm and have discounted drinks and 50% off oysters and bottled wines. 3 course dinner at 64$ - we ordered Caesar salad and French onion soup as appetizers, flat iron steak and mushroom risotto as entrees, and crème brûlée and chocolate brownie as desserts. So, our recommendation from these selections are the French onion soup (very cheesy and rich broth, delicious!), steak (highlight is the cow fat fries), and the brownie! Service is excellent! Restaurant is beautiful and relaxing, and right across from meridian hall. Great little restaurant before catching a show!

Came for winterlicious and had the $55 set dinner. The French onion soup was good. The smoked fish was ok and lacked a bit of flavour. The beef brisket was good and tender and the pork ribs was actually quite tasty. The dessert of apple crumble cake was good and the pot Au chocolate was ok. The series's very good.

We went to Biff's for Summerlicious and it exceeded our expectations! The portions (especially for Summerlicious) were large, and each bite was savoury - tasted just like Paris! Servers were extremely personable and attentive, and the restaurant interior and exterior also reminds me of Paris.

A nice intimate spot, especially convenient if you are attending a show/game nearby! I had a gift card to O&B to use, and was able to grab a reservation for dinner here. Upon entering, I noticed the combination of vibes coming together - there was a bar area that seemed more casual, the main dining room, and a private area toward the back. We waited while the table was set up and the staff made sure to check on us while that was going on. We ordered the following: - Espresso Martini + Dark & Stormy - Steak Frites - 8oz strip loin - Biff's Fixe - Salad + Trout + Creme Brulee I had the steak frites and it was cooked a perfect medium rare. It was tender and juicy, with a very generous portion of fries. I did think it was on the salty side but otherwise it was great. The trout was great as well, I really liked the combinations and textures that the beans, polenta, almonds and capers created. The creme brulee was good too, with the vanilla custard and the warm caramelized sugar. Overall a good experience here - ask about the parking deal if you are driving!

Came here for Winterlicious dinner and ordered: Chicken Veloute + Grilled Sea Bream + Flourless Chocolate Torte Duck & Pork Rillettes + Braised Beef Cheeks + Maple Chomeur The chicken veloute was a consomme like soup. I really enjoyed it as it was on the rich side, with some shredded chicken meat and bits of crisped chicken skin. It was on the salty side though. We were surprise with how big the portion was for the foie gras and pork pate. I really like how the pate had a chunky texture to it (due to the pork). The sea bream meat was delicate and the skin was crispy. The fish was paired with a citrus infused tabbouleh, which was very refreshing! The beef cheek was tender and Biff was generous with the meat. My dining companion really enjoyed the crispy russet potatoes. I'm not a big dessert person, so both dessert didn't really give me a "wow" factor. However, between the two, I enjoyed the torte more due to the peanut butter mousse. And it was significantly less sweet than the maple chomeur. The ambience was very romantic and our server was very cheerful. Overall, a very positive experience!

the worst dinning experience i have ever had. i waited one hour for one duck. i could have cooked it myself faster. i was with a group and everyone ate at different times due poor service. no apologies from waiter. he had oily hair. it was a wednesday night and not busy. there is no excuse for waiting one hour at any time. do not dine here. i was still hungry, i did not want to wait forever again. my guest ordered trout that took one hour. i think the cook went to the lake to fish for it. the waiter was barely around. i have eaten at many places for many years and never waited one hour on a slow night. i went to Dbar Four Seasons and had dessert and was treated like a king... give this place a huge Noooooooooooooooo !!!!!

French onion soup - a must have!

An arm of the Oliver and Bonacini chain, Biff's does not disappoint! Located right across from the Meridian Center, directly on Front street, the restaurant offers convenient underground parking that is $3 with restaurant authorization code. I went on a group date night and we were so well taken care of. The bartender JP is sweet, friendly and so nice! Really enjoyed the french onion soup, steak frites and multiple desserts....but best of all, were the drinks!! The Avion En Papier cocktail, SOOOOO good! You all have to come down and give Biff's a try. The right level of fancy with the right level of fun!

    Loup de mer (Seabass)
    Samantha G.

I ordered the Loup de Mer (sea bass) and it was pretty good. I wish the lemon flavor was more pronounced though (I love citrus!). The fish was good, but I would not order it again. I tried my fiancé's Truite Amandine (rainbow trout) and it was sooo much better! The brown butter almond sauce paired so nicely with the fish! If I could go back in time, this would be the entree I ordered!

Grilled Asaparagus (with gribiche, mussels escabeche, Espelette oil, brioche croutons)

Great service, lovely ambience, nice patio, delicious food - what's not to like about this restaurant? The patio makes you feel like you're dining on the street of Paris, with Parisian-style cafe tables, cute pink and light blue tablecloths, and string lights that make the patio look so pretty as the evening rolls in. The interior looks posh - just like any nice French restaurant with a full bar. Service was very attentive and friendly - what you'd expect from a French or up-scale restaurant. The food is also excellent. All the dishes that we ordered (both the appetizers and mains) came out in a timely manner, and they all tasted delectable. They tend to change their menu items based on what ingredients are in season. When we went in the summer, it was asparagus season so we had asparagus in 3 different ways: asparagus salad, grilled asparagus, and as part of the pâtes (tagliatelle pasta with asparagus, peas, cured egg yolk, and gremolata). Each one was very distinct and different (e.g. the asparagus in the salad was shaved and pickled green asparagus, the grilled asparagus appetizer used big white asparagus, and the one in the tagliatelle pasta was the small and much thinner asparagus type). We also had Escargot de Bourgogne (loved the garlic butter flavour infused in the escargot), Loup de Mer (sea bass came with crispy skin and pretty big portion - loved the piperade or mix of bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes that came with the fish), and Moules à la Provençale (can never go wrong with a big pot of mussels bathed in tomatoes & garlic!). The milk bread that came with the escargot was really good - came out warm, soft in the inside, and rich (perfect for dipping in the garlic butter with the escargot). The mussels came with baguette slices that were nicely toasted. The portion sizes of the sides were big as well (Charred Broccolini and Roasted Mushrooms were really well done - loved the charred marks from the grill, and slightly crispy texture of both the broccolini and mushrooms). Overall, Biff's Bistro hits the spot for a nice French dining experience, whether you sit inside or outside. But the patio in summer months sure makes you feel like you're in Paris for the evening.

    Pork chop
    John Y.

Went for their Summerlicious menu. Front of house staff were exceptional, efficient. professional and menu knowledgeable. Nice decor with tables sufficiently spaced apart. Patio seating available but we decided to sit inside. Appetizers- pork terrine & heirloom tomato tart. Very flavorful and exceptionally cooked/presented Entrees- lamb & pork chop. The lamb was pre-sliced, tender and juicy. The pork chop was approx 1 inch thick, juicy and cooked perfectly, kudos to the chef. Finished meal off with a cream caramel and cherry compte, again both excellent Why can't Summerlicious be all year round, oh well, will patiently wait for the next summer to come around again

They actually have a good selection of champagnes, and our server was knowledgeable. We had a lovely salad, and tried their two tartare options. You can feel the Paris inspiration the moment you walk in, from the chic brass-accented bar to the warm ambient lighting and stylish design. We went for a Saturday dinner at 7pm and surprisingly had no trouble booking a last-minute reservation. We started with cocktails -- the Beurre Noisette (Brown Butter Spring Mills Whisky, Spice Rack Demerara, Aged Bitters) and the Eau Poivre (Tromba Blanco Tequila, Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, Cointreau, White Pepper, Lime, Cucumber Bitters). Both drinks were beautifully presented and tasted delicious. For starters, we had two French Onion Soups (rich beef broth, red wine, caramelized onion, toasted baguette, and Gruyère cheese), which were seriously comforting and, in my opinion, some of the best French onion soups in the city. We also shared the escargots with garlic, butter, parsley, lemon, and brioche -- classic and satisfying. For mains, my date ordered the Duck Confit Cassoulet with Herbes de Provence sausage, lardons, white beans, tomato, parsley, and jus, and I had the Beef Bourguignon with braised beef, pomme purée with carrots, pearl onions, mushrooms, and bordelaise. Both dishes were beautifully cooked and rich in flavour. We finished with crème brûlée (vanilla bean custard with Chantilly and berries) and lemon curd cheesecake (pâte sablée with lemon curd and blueberries). Both desserts were a lovely finish to the meal. The place was busy without feeling chaotic, and the service was friendly and professional, even if a little slower than I expected. The food was delicious overall and showed quality and creativity. The room was a bit chilly for my liking. I ended up draping my coat over my lap to stay warm (I get cold easily, though). Frenchy is a beautiful spot for date night or a special dinner, and I'd happily return to try more from the menu.

It was a bit heavy and creamy with the ricotta filling, but delicious. Really enjoyed the green sauce. My partner had the truffle burger which was quite literally a burger on a plate - no sides. It was really heavy with the cheese and oils. I couldn't really enjoy it but he seemed to like it. Meat was definitely juicy! We ordered a side of truffle fries which I think lacked truffle flavour, but were delicious anyway. It came with a light aoli and they were similar to frites. Soo good! 100% would recommend it. For dessert, we had the strawberry pavlova and lemon meringue pie. The pavlova was too sweet and the pie was quite sour. So funnily enough, mixing the two was perfect. Service was very friendly and I feel like I'd love popping by for a quite bite of appetizers if I were ever in the area again. This definitely makes me want to try the larger Aloette location now!
