Over the past decade, I've graciously bled pools of sweat in gyms all over this metro, from CrossFit barns to bootcamp-style conditioning, most recently completing about 18 months at Orangetheory, where I sustained several minor and debilitating injuries. I gave it my all, spent a pretty penny on physical therapy, and finally decided to ditch the treadmill for spin classes. But Spenga's much more than a spin scene. You do 20 minutes on a bike, 20 more on the floor (free weights, kettlebell, TRX, BOSU), and 20 minutes of yoga. Originally, I definitely had reservations, but now that I'm about two months in, I can emphatically state the following: * I burn 700-900 calories per class * The yoga is super good for me * The music's pretty good (better than OTF) * It's more affordable than OTF * The instructors are polished and personable * The facility is spacious and clean * I'm injury free From a community standpoint, this place is more of a drop-in-get-it-done-and-leave kinda situation, which is great with me, but if you're more motivated by a gym full of besties, look elsewhere. I'll note they could get better at correcting form, and I would appreciate more class options, but I've never lost a penny from a late cancellation (there's no need to reserve ahead of time) and I could be wrong, but I think I'm actually seeing the results of these workouts. Chuze is always very busy and I was trying to bring her over to the Defined side. They would not allow her to work out without signing up first. Reasoning being that she is a minor and there is not a clause in their waiver stating that if a minor is injured they are liable. With as long as Defined has been around, it would seem like they would have added this by now. Especially since she was accompanied by her guardian. So how would any teenager know if they like this gym before they want to sign up? It seems like they're trying to force a sign up to me. My rating is based off of a suspicious business model.

When I spoke with Jenna, she told me I would be charged for August, but if I provided proof that I had moved along with my new address, the August charge would be waived. I submitted the requested documentation that same day in July, including proof of my new address. Unfortunately, Genesis rejected my documentation, and I'm still being charged for August. I never missed a payment and my account was fully paid through July. This has been an extremely frustrating experience. The lack of communication, inconsistent information, and failure to honor what I was told has been very disappointing. I expected a much smoother cancellation process, especially after providing everything that was requested.
