Word to the wise do not come in here without a receipt even if it's a gift. Used to be you could do an exchange. The item per exchange may be on clearance. Pretty normal right? I forgot my coat and was on the way to Yosemite where there was snow. I called Big 5 and they said they had a few options. I ran in, got excellent help from the staff member in the store, and she found the few jackets that were available. I bought one of the jackets at a great price, and it warmer than the jackets I had. I will shop at Big 5 in the future. read more

I went to Big 5 since Target is still closed from fire. All the employees were too busy talking with each other to offer help. Male employees standing around talking sports ignoring customers. The female cashier was awful. She hates her job and it shows. I got in my truck and drove to Turlock to Dicks Sporting Goods. Way nicer store, selection and employees that like their job! read more

I walked in to see 3 employees standing around with two other customers in the store. I proceeded to the back (shoe dept) waited for approximately 12-15 min one young associate helping out a customer didn't acknowledge me by even simply saying " I will be right with you" just acted like I was not there. Finally, caught another worker coming to the back and asked if I could get a size in the shoe I was looking at he looked at me and stated " he will have to help you I am busy" I then asked for a manager which he told me he was one. I was blown away that A manager said this to me rather than going up and beyond to grab my size and assist me. Reading the Yelp reviews on this store explains why they have a measly 1.5 star. DO NOT SHOP HERE! Theres a reason Amazon is destroying stores like this. Paid $100 for a metal detector for my son for a camping trip and after we got there it wouldnt even turn on! Went to take it back after we got home and they would only give me store credit and didnt even give me the full amount! Shorted me out of $25! Its 2019, who still requires reciepts other than failing stores? Who keeps reciepts on camping trips? Came into this store to look for a workout item, there was nobody in the store except for me and a young hispanic lady in the front. The Lady didn't bother to acknowledge me as she was fixing clothes, so I thought maybe she was a customer- I circled around store looking for what I couldn't find hoping that an assistant would walk up to me and ask if I need any help. I was done looking around, couldn't find what I needed. As I make my way up to the front, a white guy walks in and was greeted immediately by the lady whom supposedly didn't acknowledge me in the first place, she kissed his ass and wiped his feet right away. My girlfriend and I went in to big five this evening to buy some ammo... we waited for the manager to assist us since The regular employees were unable to... the manager comes up to us and asks what we need, I told her I need a box of .40 ammo, so she asks if I have purchased a handgun in the last 5 years.... I stop to think and say, I don't know if it's been 5 years, and said lemme think... she abruptly cuts me off and says she can't help me then. I told her I am still trying to remember the year I bought my last handgun (not that it makes a difference because I could still do the purchase, just would not be able to walk out with it same day per California law) at that point my girlfriend says, well I need some too... and she says nope, you can't buy any... we asked why not and she said because I asked her first.... so I explained that we don't even need the same caliber round. She needs 9mm and I need .40! She refused to listen to us and we asked to speak to the other manager (he's always a pleasure to work with and even recognizes me out of the store and shakes my hand- great manager) she told us she's the only manager and she can't help us. My girlfriend has her CCW renewal class this weekend, as do I (we have different firearms on our permit to prove she's not buying for me) but she refused to listen to us and was ridiculously rude since the beginning. The rude managers name is Courtney. I will be complaining to corporate as well because what she did is ridiculous. I get the new ammo laws, but just because I ask first does not mean she should deny my girlfriend service of what she's needs to purchase. I also understand if it was the same round of ammo, because that's suspicious.... we ended up driving to Big 5 in Merced and we did our background checks and made our legal purchases there. As it turns out, I was within the 5 year mark (which if she wouldn't of been so ridiculous we could have gotten passed) The manager Courtney needs to work on her customer service skills and not be a manager there. My husband and I visited this Big 5 store in Atwater and we had the WORST EXPERIENCE EVER from any store we shopped at and THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. We have shopped here occasionally and gotten great service but tonight Friday 2/8/2020 we went in to buy some shoes for our son. When we walked in my hu6stop to see if they had any ad paper but they try was empty so he asked the cashier (female) but she didnt respond except a Male who was on the side of the store pushing his broom his response was "the ad there is none do you see it there" so my husband responded what because he didnt hear him but I did at this time my husband is looking at the ad post to there frame cause his looking for a specific shoe he seen in the ad. The male responded " your looking for the ad you see the tray its empty it it not" with A HUGH ATTITUDE!! So I told him "you didnt have to say that so rude because we see its empty maybe you have some else where" by this time I'm starting walk to the back. The male started saying "sorry I didnt think I was rude, someone else has to help you, the store is closing so you need to hurry up and leave" so I respond "thats fine someone else can help us we dont need you" and at this time I'm walking to the back of the store now I'm looking at the other ad stand that's back there. Now this male followed me to the back and got into my face telling me that I'm rude and that I need to leave. I was like what the hell why did you follow me to the back you said you did want to help us and now you are in my face talk all loud,rude with disrespect and saying I came in to start a fight. Now my husband come towards the back cause he can here us. At the same time another male comes from the side and my husband and I ask if his the manager, he says yes. So I tell the first male what is your name I'm going to call and make a report on you because you have the worst customer service EVER now this young male holds up his lanyard and say " here write it down take a picture I dont give a fuck you both are rude and need to get the hell out" now mind you the manager is standing right there and hears everything. The young male is (Joshua) his manager called him (Josh). The manger had asked Josh to finish what he was doing so the we can explain what happened. So we tried talking to the manager about 4 to 5 time to explain what happened but Josh continued to come out of nowhere saying we want to start a fight that we a the rude ones and mind you the manager is standing there pushing him away telling him to go away, to go into the back, to stay away from us but NO Josh CONTINUED TO BE RUDE AND FOLLOW US ANYWHERE WE WENT TO TALK TO THE MANAGER. We had also asked the manager to control him because now his becoming a threat to me because he kept coming into my face not my husband. Now my husband is because very angry and asked the manager to get that young man and control him because if he touches any of us especially wife it's going to end bad. Now the manager has gotten to Josh and he walks away. We finally tell the manager (Anthony) our issue and situation that had occurred. We expressed to Anthony that every means of this issue and situation could of been handled different and that I could of called the police because the way Josh was following me and getting into my face was not by any means acceptable. We got our sons shoe, the manager helped us to get what we needed. Now we are getting the item and ready to pay. We hear Josh telling the female cashier " I'm going wait for the outside" ARE YOU KIDDING ME THIS KID DOESN'T STOP... So we tell the manager that he needs get a grip on his issue.... and we left.... I have written an email to corporate, called corporate and here. I'm in customer service and I am a Head Supervisor. If this was me as that male manager I would of had my associate in the back and explain that his outburst isn't acceptable in any means. Then I would of taken the customer to the side, another room or even out side if need be to clear the issue situation or to just remove the hostility. Gotten the customer settled and on there way then deal with my associates. By any mean none of the back and forth or threat that the male shown was ever necessary. I normally only come here to check out if they have any good Discs on sale. They usually have a pretty good selection and they do go on sale regularly. This is a smaller store then some so they may not carry as many selection as some. Over all I really like this store and the employees always make sure you have help if you need it. read more

Usually (emphasis on usually) Big 5 stores have excellent customer service. This was not the case here. My wife came in looking for some running shoes and they didn't have any in her size out on the floor. There was a salesman who was doing nothing else but pacing around the store aimlessly, occasionally asking other customers if they needed help. I made eye contact with him a few times as he wandered around and then finally (and impatiently), approached him to ask for help. Here's the kicker - when we ask him if they have the shoes in her size, in the back, he says all they have is out on the floor. And that they don't even carry her size.... Then he suggests that she can buy a men's shoe. ??!?!!? Well, that's all good but I've bought shoes at Big 5 before and they DO carry shoes in the back, this smuck just doesn't want to be bothered to go look. Oh, we're sorry, we don't want to interrupt you while you wear out the carpet. And after going to another Big 5, they DO carry her size. No wonder this place was practically empty. read more
