I live in the area and go here pretty often. They're my go-to for fishing gear and ammo. They usually have some great finds in clothing too at surprising prices. I never considered leaving a review for Big5, but during my last visit, I was helped by Pedro and it was a completely different experience than the usual. He knew his stuff, put in a lot of care towards being helpful, and pointed me in the right direction with everything i needed. Not to mention, he's personable and FULL of good vibes, while being super professional at the same time. I couldn't be happier with my visit and am compelled to go back just cause of him. I haven't been inside this store for years, but I needed a few tennis balls so I was in the area, figured this place would be perfect for it. And it was, their selection is pretty good, I am not a pro, so I need something affordable and decent quality. Their sportswear could use more organization, I checked the merchandise since I'm looking for a hoodie for my husband, but I don't seem to find a thinner one with a zipper anywhere else, so not their fault. We needed a yearly parking adventure hiking pass. I called around. Big 5 is the only place that had them. I went in and Pedro helped me out. They are quick and the line moved fast. They are fully stocked with sporting goods, reels, shoes and anything else needed for sports. Pedro showed me options for the pass. I was going to get a day pass for 5.00. Big 5 Sporting Goods has stood the test of time and outlasted both Sports Authority and Sports Chalet. With both sporting goods stores out of business , Big 5 is pretty much your only sporting goods option in Burbank . The store is clean and easy to navigate with signs all over the store indicating the department section. The hunting section is still well stocked with ammunition,, knives, and rifles . Big 5 always has great deals in their weekly ads, especially for shoes. The one downfall is help on the floor. You will be hard pressed to find an associate outside the cashier station walking the floor assisting customers. A lot of the stuff at big 5 you can find at Walmart but do you really want to deal with that mess?! I recommend This location if you already know what you want and you don't need much assistance. It has been a while not shopping at Big 5 Sporting Goods in Burbank, CA from the moment you walk in I noticed a welcoming ambiance from the store employees. Liam from the beginning was very helpful. To seek on the inventory and in the back room for a pair of hiking shoes. Definitely was a steal of the day the Bearpaw Olympus Women's Hiker Shoes from $49.99 to $19.00 a whooping 62% off. But there was no luck on finding it physically. Until, Christian found it, both of them took the time to search for it. I was elated when Christian handed the box to me. I have to echo many other reviews - if you know what you're looking for AND you know it's in the store, it's great. However, if (oh no) you need to speak with an employee or need their help, you're outta luck. They're zombies. Polite zombies, but zombies none the less. Saw one woman literally pull the arm of an employee who attempted to walk right past her when she was asking him point blank for help. When I was asking for help, it was in tandem with a woman I've never met in my life: she volunteered to get someone to help me - the guy just walked away pretending not to hear either of us, again from point blank range. I've been going to Big 5 as long as I remember, then in the 70s I switched to Sports Chalet in La Canada because it was across the street from my place of employment. But I am back to Big 5 for the past 6+ years and am very happy to be so. Everything I have needed is at this Burbank gem of a store. We frequent this store more and more now that my kiddos are starting up in sports. Today I went in looking for simple help with a baseball glove for my son and Liam was beyond helpful! He gave us so many tips, talked my son through some of his struggles with having different sized hands and us finding out he is a lefty... we left empty handed because although he could have made a sale with us he told us it'd be more beneficial for my son to get some 2nd hand equipment. He was patient, kind and respectful of me and my 2 kids and he deserves to be praised! Another employee was radioing him a few times while he was helping us out and he paid it no mind. This particular big five and the people that work there are very incompetent it started with Christmas my husband bought me some tennis shoes from there and they forgot to take the security tag off and he said it did not ring or alert when he left out the store when he came back two days after Christmas with the receipt to have it removed it was ridiculous how long the process took and we had the receipt they were telling us about taking it in and out of stock no one ever apologized for not doing their job and checking the shoes and taking it off in the first place and Gratzyia she was the manager that day. I believe she Spelled it Gratzyia looked at her name tag . I asked her-her name. Anyway ........what it is so those same comfortable shoes after wearing so long I realize they're a little bit too small I went into the store and said I want this EXACT!! shoe in a size 8 it was their shoe it was bought from their store . the man in shoe dept asked me did I know the name of the shoe ? I was shocked like are you kidding me they're your shoes no I don't know the name I know it's a Nike that's the logo on the shoe then I had to go in find the shoe on the display but prior to that there were other customers there and a lady was trying on another shoe that didn't look like mine had nothing to do with me before he went back to go find the shoe I wanted he said hey what about this one want to try on this one. livable could not believe he said that I said no !!!! I want the shoe then as he was looking he came out I found another shoe a sketcher I liked a black sketcher very comfortable he didn't have what I wanted ( the NIKE ) I said do you have this shoe in a 7 1/2 or an eight he brought the shoe out he said I don't have it in black I have it in gray I put it on it felt good I said OK the shoe was 2999 I get to the register and they tell me $47 I said wow !! how much is tax she told me eight dollars I said the shoe is $29 longer story short the salesman brought me a completely different shoe from what I asked for ‍‍no I did not look at that because he did not say I don't have the shoe you want in black but I have one that cost more and it's similar in a way he just said I don't have it in black but I have it in gray ( NO REASON FOR ME NOT TO THINK THIS WAS SAME SHOE I REQUESTED )? manager her excuse was he's new . I understand new and empathize with new I understand people learning their jobs but that was just ridiculous !!! I blame it on the manager !!! I get it, it's the holidays, everyone is short staffed and people are mean. But man the staff in this place are super rude. Went in for a gift card. The girl at the checkout lane looked up at me and I said hi and she ignored me and picked up a phone and helped that person. The other cashier saw me standing there, then proceeded to ignore me and dig through cupboards. So I waited patiently and politely. When the first cashier got off the phone I got my gift card and she basically shoved the receipt at me before walking away, not saying anything. Friendly and helpful staff, and great prices! And they simplify the redundant firearms DOJ paperwork to reduce the hassle for the customer. Also, their ammo prices are the best I've found in Southern California. They're the only place I've been to that ever has 9mm FMJ for under $30 for 50 rounds. AND they just might be the best place if you want a Maverick 88, or a Dickinson Marine Tactical pump action. They always seem to have those in stock for a decent price. This store is one of my favorite Big 5 stores. Been there countless times in last 4 years. But today I'm leaving this positive review because their customer service has become really excellent in the last few years. Case in point : I went in today to do a return for a Bluetooth speaker and was pleasantly greeted by both Pedro and Alyssa at the counter. Even though it was closing time on Sat night and I had no receipt nor the credit card I purchased it originally with, Pedro and Alyssa went far and beyond to help me out. They were able to switch the item out for a new one and really showed their enthusiasm and positive spirits while handling everything with a smile. I think other retail stores and their staff could learn a lot from Pedro and Alyssa in the way they made me feel comfortable and satisfied with my shopping at their store. read more

Your run-of-the mill Big 5 which means a cramped entrance/exit/check-out line, lackluster customer service, and a crappy selection of goods. I headed to the fishing section as I always do at every sporting goods store and found a very small selection, just about one aisle of goods, and about 2/3 of the items were labeled and more expensive than other stores, and the other 1/3 were unlabeled/unmarked. The rod and reel combos they have are like of the worst, most entry-level variety, and all at MSRP or higher seemingly. I definitely wouldn't come here unless I was in a pinch and couldn't go the 5 miles or so the the recently-opened Super Walmart that has a giant aisle of lower-priced and greater-variety of fishing goods. There is a fairly decent parking lot though and it's not the worst place to kill time if you're getting your car serviced at one of the many auto repair shops in the area. read more

Review of C45 and FNS-9 Spring Pistols. Big 5 actually turns out to be fairly low in price if you are careful. Sign up for the store Emails! There are two coupons that I used, the 20 percent off and the "Save $5 on $15" which amounts to 33 percent off. Then you combine these coupons with in-store sales and the end price is lower than eBay! I decided to get an airsoft pistol to deal with annoying animals. These are legal to carry. First I bought the C45 and next the FNS-9. When I bought the C45 I found it odd that I could not hit a target! Hmmm. So a week later I got the FNS-9. I realized that the C45 was total useless junk and returned it. The FNS-9 is excellent. If you see my photos, I am able to hit targets as small as 2" square at 30 feet away. This is amazing for such a cheap lightweight gun. The ammo is very important. Big 5 sells two kinds, the 0.12 green and the 0.2 white. By all means get the 0.2. The green economy ammo is ridiculous. The cheap ammo will not travel straight. It spins off at random. The white balls are precision. Ok, so I tested the range of the FNS-9 (300 fps) with the 0.2 Ammo. At 30 feet you can easily hit a tin can every time. I was actually able to hit bottle lids. At 50 to 60 feet I could hit roof whirly vents that are about 12" x 24". At 80 to 100 feet I could still hit outside doors. After 100 feet the results are unpredictable. So what is the gun good for? Well, it repels animals. If you pop coyotes with this they will leave. This gun will shut crows up. And it is great for killing spiders! I used it at point blank range and nasty spiders just "vanish" (disintegrate). I recommend taking this along on camping trips, and keeping one handy for the back yard. read more

Ugh this place is over packed for such a small store. The shoe sale tables are an eye sore and never leave. It's impossible to actually find someone who wants to help you in the store. With the exception of the shoe department.. those guys hustle hard. One dressing room that is locked. You have to find that elusive sales person "working"the floor. It's just odd. Best bet is to wear spandex and try on in the aisle ways. Or just buy and try on at home, then return what doesn't fit. Cane in to buy a fishing pole for a gift for my husband. I know nothing about fishing. After finding a salesman, he proceeded to ask me questions I had no idea how to answer. I'm like... We are going to Bad Lake near mammoth. I presume there may be bass. And trout. That's about all I can give you. Can't you recommend a pole for that? Oh he went on and on, it friends in size of fish, type of fish, bottom, top, temperatures, aarrggghhh. When I was a kid we bought the $20 pole&reel and it worked. Why can't there be a basic functioning pole for adults? Gave up... made a coupon for him. Bought fishing licenses. And came back and he picked one, I think it was called THE STICK. Came complete. Grabbed some hooks and if we went on our adventure. The check out line is always crazy. Behind the counter is always a mess. This place is great for those basic last minute sport needs and camping supplies. They also have a gun shop and fishing section. It has a little of a lot of things. Parking is ample. That's always a sale. People aren't the friendliest there, nor helpful, but if you know what you want and can just pop in and out, it won't be too painful of an experience. Of course we'll be back. We'll hate and bitch about it because no-one seems to care much about the appearance or service of this place, But the reality is, they have what we need when we need it most of the time and it's close to home.
