Had to walk off the dinner bloat so decided to go check out big 5. The place was a ghost town, with only 3 members working. I was putzing around the knife and firearms area seeing if there was anything new. The guy working up front greeted me and went back to small talk with the female employee. Being one of the only 2 customers inside the shop i thought they would catch on that i needed assistance in the firearms area. After a while they did and sent out the manager. He was very helpful as I had my eyes on a new 12 Gauge. He was pretty knowledgeable about different products and even checked the inventory for a product they were sold out of. Big 5 has been lacking for a few years with their prices, the return policy is kind of rigid and they don't really sell top shelf equipment. It's good for a few cheap things and every other blue moon they have a good sale. read more

I'm not in love with this store's merchandising. It's really crowded and overwhelming. And the selection feels like.... well.... like going to Radio Shack versus Fry's. I have been here several times when I need something in a pinch. You need a softball glove? It's here. You need a big knife? A bicycle? A sled? A pair of cheap athletic shoes? It's all here. I went here with my son to find him some new shoes. The lady that helped us was super friendly and even offered to take my sons foot measurements to be sure we got the right size. When my son finally found a pair he really liked but they didnt have in his size, she quickly called all the other locations and had them put aside for me. My 10yr daughter desperately needed some new roller skates. So yesterday we decided to try our luck at this store. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted by a lovely lady who walked us over to their skate selections. I wasn't sure what size we needed, so the lady was kind enough to measure her. However, the store didn't have her size in stock. The lady was able to locate some skates at another store in my daughter's size and had them placed on hold. She even wrote out directions how to get to the other store. Once we arrived at the other store, we were able get in and out very quickly. We had a pretty good experience here. Got to use some of our coupons and get some things to keep our faces and necks warm, as well as thermals and sleds. Good prices on everything and so glad we didn't have to fight the mob at Costco for sleds. The sleds at Big 5 turned out much better and user friendly for our group. The only drawback to this experience is that the debit/credit card system was intermittent and down when we were there, so it made getting in and out of the store a challenge quickly. But, the store personnel were very apologetic and nice about the whole thing. They had a large selection of things we wanted and needed, so I'm glad I thought about going here first before going to Costco. read more

It's no frills. You won't be wowed by impressive displays. But if you're a serious athlete, you will appreciate their prices. I don't buy my shoes there, but I do buy most of my swim stuff there (if not online) and some gear for my runs. To put it in perspective, my $70 MSRP TYR swim suit retails for $70 at Sports Authority, about $60 at Sports Chalet, around $50 at Dicks, and $30 at Big 5. The exact same suit. Given a past great experience I returned to Big 5... Several years ago I bought a $30 pair of shoes at the Green Valley location. These shoes lasted as long as expected and matched the "wear-and-tear" quality of much more expensive shoes I've had in the past. This great experience lead me to buy my next pair at Big 5. An unexpected bonus was the fact that I returned (swapped-out) these new shoes for another pair due to a fit issue that was not evident until I had the shoes at home. The Big 5 staff happily made the exchange with no fuss. So, the value received and price paid will certainly bring me back years in the future for shoes. I simply can't justify buying the typical $100 (and up) everyday shoes. Some of their other products can be higher priced so be sure to look for coupons in order to ensure you get a good deal. read more

Just left this Big 5...they had an item clearly marked down. And when I went to check out they marked it at regular price. I asked politely for a manager, and to honor the price that an employee marked. They claimed "a customer" probably did that and had already removed the sales tag. They say they mark sales prices on the front not back but other items clearly show it isn't true (?!??$. I looked at the sticker, it had clearly been put there by there marking tool as it had zero edges distorted or anything. Pretty shady act on this places part, no doubt why other stores are putting these types of places out of business. Awful customer service and poor business ethic. read more

Not too impressed with this place. Their selection is underwhelming, their prices are above average and the store is cramped and congested. The employees were helpful and friendly, but couldn't help me because they didn't have what I needed in store. Because I am often around this area, I have stopped by on numerous occasions for a product or two. One time I purchased a tent that did not contain poles and another time I bought an air pump that broke upon first using it. I had no problems returning the items, but will forever be skeptical of Big 5 products. Save yourself the time and shop at Dick's or Bass Pro Shops for a better selection, better quality and an overall better experience. read more

We come in here quite frequently for sports gear for the kids. They always have great customer service. Today we were looking for soccer cleats for my son and they didn't have his size. They offered to call another store but realized they should have 3 in stock. They triple checked the back stock and then the manager came out and said they have some in their truck right now. He went digging for it and found his size! What an awesome team they have there! They went above and beyond and it was much appreciated. read more

I have been debating about sending this until I had to go to a couple other stores and saw employees upholding the mask rule.... I was in here on Monday around 2wish. I had my 79 yr old mother. My husband my daughter and my two young grandchildren 4 an 8. WE were ALL wearing masks. A woman came in wearing a mesh bag with hello kitty on it. like she got it next door at the party store. At first I was thinking what a "karen". But as I was shopping and saw her smug look on her face I got angry. I have people with me that are vulnerable and this woman thinks it is all a joke... We spent over $200 in there. I am now going to rethink where I shop.. if a store can not uphold the requirements that have been requested by our Government then you don't need my money. there are plenty of other places I can purchase every thing I got that day. I love this Big 5! My 10 year old son and I went in looking for roller skates. They had some but not in his size. Bryan came to help us and looked to see what they had in the computer. He found some at another store and was willing to ship them or I could go pick them up. He also went in the back to see what they had. He came out with the type of skates we were looking for and my son's size. He was very helpful and professional. He even laced one of the skates up for my son. So nice to to have the help finding what we came in for. Very nice employees at this location. Will definitely be back. read more

THIS WAS THE SECOND STORE IN MY EXPERIENCE - I will never shop at any Big 5 again ever. I went in to this store looking for the $199 Marine 12 gauge shotgun for my home defense. I had my 20yo son and his girlfriend with me. I was looking at the gun AND asking my son questions about it since he is looking for one as well AND he lives with me and may need to use the gun for home defense as well. He is currently unable to purchase one due to him not having our current address on his drivers license because he just hasn't gotten around to changing it...he's a 20yo after all. I felt the associate had a big chip on his shoulder because he had to work but I digress. I told the associate that I wanted to buy it. He refused to sell it to me because he was certain I was buying for my son. He said my son would have to fill out the paperwork if I wanted it. I told him the gun was for me and that I wanted it for home defense, He said what I was doing is a straw purchase and that he would not sell it to me. I was shocked that he could determine my intent and assumed I was lying. I understand they may have a liability but this was very sad. I went to another Big 5 to attempt buy the gun. The associate there said she had the same problem when she went to buy a gun with her grandfather. I guess she got here's but the after talking to her regional manager (I guess the other store associate had already talked to the RM) she would only sell a gun to my son and not me. I am disappointed with the way BIG 5 does business and any chance I get will tell my story to anyone that seeks to do business with this company. read more

I have an old Ruger 10/22 rifle that hasn't been fired since 1976 and i was having issues inserting the magazine into it. I called and spoke to Mike who told me to bring in by and that he would look at it. I just stopped by this morning and within 2 minutes he had it fix and NO CHARGE.Thank you Mike and thank you BIG 5. For a store that only sells sporting goods, this place sure has a terrible selection! I asked the girl at the front desk if they had any lights I could wear while running when it's dark in the morning. She led me to an area near the back where she thought they had them. I couldn't believe how crowded and disorganized the store was. And then when we got to the back area she realized that they actually didn't have what I was looking for and suggested I go to wal mart. I'm sorry but aren't YOU the sporting goods store!? And what I was looking for is not that crazy and something a basic sporting goods store certainly should have. One of the few places that I can bring my kid to and find just about everything we need for any sporting event. They have shoes in every size and most other equipment needed to ensure a successful season. Whether coaching, playing,or parenting Big 5 usually comes through. read more

I called in the morning and put a football clear on hold. When I went to pick it up, I was informed that the shoe was put back on the shelf. The manager, Michael, gave me a few super generous options to remediate the situation. I still preferred the shoe that I originally chose. A lot of inventory, but the deals just aren't there. Use to be my favorite place to get my fishing line loaded on my spool. But they keep having issues with their spooling machine. I have been to this store twice, the second time was this evening. Both times were to purchase equipment for my kids sports. I am not impressed at all. When shopping for cleats I noticed nothing seemed to be in it's correct place. When I asked questions at both visits, the person working the shoe department responded with "I don't know" or " I'm not sure." I had to ask if they could find someone who does know, and apparently, no one in the store did have the answers. Seriously, when the employees cannot answer questions to help, why would I want to shop there?? read more

Big 5 is small & packed with merchandise. The prices are good, the service is spotty. When you can find an employee they are very helpful, if you can't you might be standing around for a while. I try to go during the day so it's never to crowded. read more

The pants weren't on the floor and he offered to go in the back and open the box from the shippment and get what we needed.
