Went camping last week, needed a tent. Had to buy a tent that was affordable but big enough for a queen air bed to fit in. Couldn't find an affordable one at walmart so I called this store, whomever answered was very helpful. I told him what I needed and he took the time to find an affordable tent. Even asked if a queen airbed could fit in and he put me on hold, got the measurements of a queen air bed then did some math and figured out that it will fit in this 8x8 tent. So I go to the store, get the WFS arroyo creek 8x8x56'' tent and purchased it for only 36 bucks. WOW, could not find that at walmart. They asked me to sign up to get coupons and thankfully I did, came later that day spent 90 dollars on extra accessories my hubby needed and got $10 dollars off. The customer service here is was really good. I purchased a instant canopy here for the Fourth of July and was really impressed with how great their customer service was. Unfortunately, the canopy was broken in a couple of places, still functional, but cracker. I called to inquire about doing an exchange and was equally as impressed with the level of customer service I received. They are out of stock on the canopy I purchased, but mentioned they would be ok with doing a refund instead. read more

I came in here with money in my pocket ready to buy something that I saw on sale. 5 minutes in the store, it hit me like de ja vu, nobody wants to help you in this store. I would give it zero if it let me. All I can say is do not shop at this location. There are many more sporting good stores in this area you can spend your money. The manager (if you can even call him that) is plan out rude and clearly has no customer service skills what so ever. This place sucks. I've tried this big 5 several times over the last few years with the same results: inattentive and completely disinterested staff, dark, cluttered space with total lack of inventory on simple things like bicycle inner tubes. Is there a half star I can give them? Nothing worse than store leadership that feels they are not empowered to make decisions that is best for customer service. Except when you call the customer service line to complain and they don't call you back. To be honest, I have never been impressed by this company but still shop there because it's convenient. Doesn't even deserve one star! I bought a pair of water shoes for my son and returned them the next day. They some how discounted $5 because I didn't have my receipt but I had proof. I came into the store looking for baseball items for my son and Elsie helped me find what I was looking for. It was a drastic change from the other sports store in town where you receive no help! So this store really deserves a zero star rating and I would gladly give it one if I could. I had some time to kill so I decided to check out this big 5 and see what kind of clearance stuff they had. While I was in the store there was a younger guy who was very polite and asked if I needed help which I simply replied no thank you and I continued to browse. About 10min later I realized I accidentally left my phone in my car and the whole reason I had time to kill was because I was waiting on a phone call. So I ran out to my car to grab my phone and it was getting chilly so I threw on my sweater. Once I noticed I had yet to get the call I'm waiting on I though I'd go back and finish browsing the store. Now this time as soon as I walked in literally no more than 10 steps from the door had I taken before I notice an older white guy who's hair loss was alarming and had plenty of lbs to go around (presumably the manager) & if he's not the manager then my God his career path really really hadn't gone well! Anyways I noticed him glaring at me and whispering to the associate at the register which at that point I already knew exactly what was coming next. Of course the balding heavy guy tries to walk by me like he needed to go do something and asks if I needed any help and replied no I'm good then he stopped 3 feet away from me and pretended to tighten a screw in the clothing rack but was really just shaking it a little. So I just stood there for like a minute to see if he would walk away which he did not. Not until I choose to walk a couple rows down and like clockwork as soon as I start to walk away what do ya know here comes Mr. Slick trying to hawk eye me as I continue to walk down that section of the store. With it being so ridiculously obvious that dude has nothing better to do than follow me through the store I decided to stop again and grab a yoyo. So here he comes acting like he's really doing something and comes up to me and says can I help you with something....I looked at him for a couple seconds and said what? Huh? No dude you just asked me less than 2 minutes ago while we were standing right over there by the clothing rack that had that loose screw that needed tightening remember?? So he says we'll when people come into this store they usually need help with something so I replied ok great but I'm not one of those people and I don't need any help but thank you. As I turn to walk away he looks at me with this dumb shocked look and says well I'm just going to be right here next to you as you continue to look around the store......now I'm the one who has the shocked look and my face. I said wait what? So you're going to just shadow me the rest of the time I'm in the store.....do you know how rude that is i mean you have to be a straight up asshole to say and do that to someone who is just trying to kill a bit of time. I said man I'm not trying to steal anything and he said I never said that. Hmm no then why the hell have you been all up on me since I walked back into the store and pretended to be busy doing other stuff that was clearly b.s. Total asshole who judged me the second I stepped foot into the store for no valid reason whatsoever. No wonder this place has an average of 2 stars on yelp. One of the most underrated stores ever! They've been around forever and back in the 90's when other "big box" sporting goods stores thrived, Big 5 seemed like they were a little inferior comparatively but look who's outlived them all! I admit, never really gave them a chance but since the others closed, I've come to realize that I've missed out all these years! August 6 2pm the male manager was a total dickhead and blew everyone off and was rude to us just to grab simple ammunition. We finally got help at the ammo desk but he didn't know what he was doing , I understand because he wasn't suppose to help us it was the male manager that was sitting there and doing nothing. And the cashier almost didn't take our coupon. Worst experience for a lot of people there that did not get help. The only reason I gave it an extra star is because the person that helped us at the ammo desk tried really hard to help. Ali, definition of one of the rudest people I ever met. I went in to exchange a pair of shoes for my little brother for his birthday that my mom got for him. I walk in and she goes returning or exchanging with the nastiest attitude. I said returning and than she just ignored me. Me not knowing where they are (cause my mom got them) I walk all the way to the back and than another polite lady came and told me that they are in the front.. If she didn't tell me I would've been wandering around aimlessly.. Once I got the shoes and got to the cashier she was standing on one side so I started walking towards that side and once I was like two feet away she was like "over here". No I can help you over here or anything just a rude over here.. Than she wanted the credit card I used, of course I didn't have that but I had the receipt and the two pairs of shoes that were brand new tags were still on everything. Since I didn't have a credit card she wanted my license. I don't regularly shop at this particular location, but when I go back I'm sorely reminded why I chose avoid it! I came back to shop at big 5 to get more of a one-to-one costumer service in what I was shopping for thinking that things might have changed since my last experience, rather than go to a huge impersonal store where I would have to hunt down an associate. When I walked in, I smiled and greeted the young lady at the front register (which in my opinion should've been the other way around), she not only did not respond back, but did not even make eye contact with me. The store was filled with employees, no one attempted to engaged me or any costumer for that matter. The associates at big 5 need retraining in basic costumer service and commonsense interaction. If the employees are allowed to behave this way I can just imagine how shitty the store manager and manager are. I refuse to give my money to a store that treats their costumer a like that. I will be contacting big 5's corporate office to inform them of my experience. This was/is my last time ever stepping foot in that store! read more

I will NEVER shop at this store again. I bought several pairs of shoes at their tent sale. I have 5 kids and money is tight. I was happy to find some good shoes for myself, husband and kids. I however got a pair of size 11 shoes for my teenage son. My son normally wears a 10, so I thought I was getting a size bigger. When o got home, he tried them on and the shoe ran small. I did take note that they had a size 12 and 13 when I was there. The next day, I went back and some how lost my receipt. Anyway, I thought they would never decline me when I asked to just exchange them for a bigger size, but they did. Everything was together the tags were still on and shoes were bound with the plastic that holds the shoes together. The man didn't care and sent me on my way. So now I'm out of money for a pair of shoes that don't fit my son. This is money that I can't afford to lose, coming from a single income military family of 7. I will never shop there again. IF I COULD RATE A 0 I WOULD!!! I went to Big 5 on Sunday 8/19 and purchased a pair of shoes for my son who was not with me at the time. I asked the sales guy outside and the girl inside if I could return them if they do not fit my son and they assured me yes as long as I have the receipt. This brings me to Monday 8/20 when I went to take them back for a bigger size. I was asked rudely if I had my receipt and when I said yes the girl at the register pointed to a spot on the counter and said put them there. I went back to grab a bigger size and I couldn't find them so I went back up to the register and said that I had purchased them from outside during their sale on Sunday. The Manager now gets involved and tells me that all of the shoes out there are gone and it was for that day only. The customer service that I experienced in this store will make sure that I NEVER shop here again. I even asked if I could exchange them for something else expecting to pay more and the Manager rudely interjects and says that he will have to give me my money back. I am a mom of two boys who both play sports and are very hard on shoes and because of the service I received by the staff there I will take all of my business to Dick's which is closer to my house. read more
