I ordered some outdoor gear from Amazon and it didn't show up on time, so I had to run to Big 5 and hope they had what I needed. They did! I was able to get some UV shirts and arm coverings and a mullet hat to protect mt neck. I will say that I found it very odd that only the men's shirts had a upf rating of 50 while the women's only went to 30. Staff was friendly and the store was clean. The items I purchased were on sale and they also offer a military discount which was nice. read more

Wednesday, 12-10-2025: What a difference in change of personnel makes in such a short time! This time I was welcomed in by a friendly female associate, who asked if I needed help. I came here to buy a folding camping chair for my brother that was on sale. I knew where to look so I said no thanks. It wasn't on display so I found her again and she had another very polite young man retrieve one in the back for me. I was so happy when he produced it! My friend has a huge property in Temecula with the shooting range all we had to do is bring bullets. I guess we could've easily looked it up online but I just didn't. It just sounded really easy go buy bullets at big five. Turns out it's a little harder than you think. My boyfriend is from Denver so they wouldn't let him buy them . OK I will get them ! I have a California ID. Turns out it takes two days to get a background check. So if you're going to buy bullets be prepared for the background check and a minimum of three days. Unhelpful and untrained employees. Don't seem to care to make sales or help customers at all.

I went in the other morning to return a pair of shoes that rubbed my ankle raw. I never return worn merchandise, especially after the 30 days. The girl working was so friendly and helpful. Stopped by here before heading over to Ocotillo Wells. We needed last minute items that we forgot to pack. Upon our arrival, one of our friends asked where an item was in the shop and she didn't look like she wanted to help us. The girls at the register all looked at us and just laughed. We looked for the item ourselves since it didn't seem like they wanted to help us. The store was a little cluttered too so not sure if it was because of Black Friday or what. He works in the outdoor sports section and he saw me upset that they were sold out so he went to the unloading trucks to search one for me. Stopped by big 5 just to browse boxing equipment, but left impressed with the staff! As soon as I walked through the door I received a friendly greeting. I was offered assistance promptly, and the employee helping me knew that a certain item was out of stock but then offered to go back and check. When I declined the employee asked a co worker kindly to check for us while he helped me. I didn't end up making a purchase that day. To be completely honest I really had to take a number 2. (The restroom wasn't open for patrons) as the panic began to set in I abruptly left the establishment. However , after the panic had subsided I reflected on how pleasant my experience had been. I like this Big 5 because the staff is pretty friendly, there is always a sale and it's next to Aztek tacos. Everytime I come here I'm always greeted by a hello and that always goes a long way with me. I don't need you to be overly friendly try to get to know me but a least acknowledge me. I love how they have great sales that last for sometimes weeks and it seems like they are always having some type of sale. If I see something that I like and it's not on sale then I just won't buy it because I know at some point it well be on sale. They have a nice selection of ammo but they usually sell out pretty quick so if you're not on it you will miss out. I've never bought a firearm here but it looks like they only sell rifles. Overall this is a nice spot to build up your arsenal. read more

Big 5 is one of the last few sporting goods stores that remain in the area, with Sports Authority and Sports Chalet recently shutting down. This store is smaller than the bigger chains, nicely laid out, and has a good variety of products. They have a nice selection of men's and women's active wear. I have shopped here for athletic shoes, but I have never found anything I like in my 5.5 sized foot. Though this store is conveniently located close to where I live, I shop here only occasionally when needing special items. It is a nice store. I hope it survives. read more

I went in there around 11am on Black Friday, I was in need of a white canopy for an event I was attending that required white canopy. I decided to wait till Black Friday to get a good deal on canopies, because who buys Canopies on Black Friday? I assumed no one did. My plan to wait was a a mistake, I've looked/called in for inventory at many various stores and all were sold out on white canopies. I was in shock, I'm thinking "how can this be?" I was about to give up, I was about improvise and buy a blue tent canopy and sew a white top. Then Big 5 popped into my head. I checked this store inventory online and saw that they carried it so I rushed over there. I went to the area where the canopies where and to my surprise.... All white canopies where gone. An employee named John asked if I needed assistance and I told him that I was looking for a white canopy. He told me he would look in the back. He did and came back empty handed, he decided to check the inventory at other Big 5 stores but all showed that they were sold out. I explained to him I check online prior on coming and it stated the store carried it. I showed him my phone and he noticed that the item number was different than was was displayed on the floor, he then explained to me that he would go back and check again. I've had similar experiences where if an item was not found on the sales floor a store employee would normally say " Sorry we don't have any" and wont bother to check, John was awesome to check a second time. Sadly he came back emptied handed. He explained to me that he has not given up and will attempt to find the canopy and call me if he did. He directed me to leave my information to the cashier and ask for a rain check. As I was next in line, John comes over and to my surprise, he finds the LAST white Canopy. Seriously, that's 100%++ Customer Service. Give John a raise Big 5, you need to hire more people like him. read more

Just had a terrible experience at Big 5 in Tem on Hwy79. I've been going between the Elsinore location and this one for years.(They seem to carry my kids shoe sizes most often) Anyway, came in this morning to make a return of some soccer keeper gloves. Had my receipt and my credit card. I was asked by Bernice, for my ID and credit card. I gave her my receipt and CC and told her my pic was on the back. She said she needed ID, I gave it to her but asked why they needed my ID. She informed me it's to track people that might be abusing the return privilege?! Um, I said..ok but I have my receipt and my cc, so? I asked are you the manager? At this point I could tell she was irritated with my questions. Honestly, we had our credit hacked a few months ago and just wanted clarification for why they needed id. She was very rude and seriously put out that I asked questions. Two other employees walked up, not sure if one was a manager because they didn't say anything. She started to walk off and I said again, I'm not trying to be annoying I was just looking for clarification. She told me I was yelling and being rude and then answered the phone...the other two employees were still standing there and no one said anything. I said ok, have a nice day. Called the Elsinore store and spoke with the manager there. I got the clarification that I needed but also was told it's NOT to track people abusing returns...Bottom line, I know that retail is rough(was in it for many years) but is it really that difficult to be kind? Anyway, rant over! Just disappointed with people. :( read more

Not a huge selection of anything particular. Just a little of everything. If you need to pick up a couple things this place prob has it. Great selection here and it seems like there is always a sale on something. The staff is friendly however, I feel like they are sometimes understaffed. I am very happy with my most recent purchase, the product is top quality and priced well. However, I did have to wait an extended period, as I was working with the manager who had to leave to attend to several PA requests for assistance from other employees. Since Big 5 doesn't offer e-gift cards I had to buy an actual gift card. I will not buy gift cards and mail them because of theft. Cashier told me I could take a pic of the gift card front and back and send to my mother-in-law for my nephew in another state. WELL, the Big5 would not take the gift card from my mother in laws cell. I called the Big5 in Temecula where I purchased, spoke to the manager and he wouldn't give me a refund even though the cashier told me they would take the gift card payment with the pic of the gift card! We had a very negative experience with this specific location, due to the Manager working at the gun counter, his name was Justin. My wife recently purchased a home defense rifle, when Justin found out that she was purchasing it, he rudely walked away from the counter and sent over another Manager named Tommy. Tommy was very pleasant in assisting us and answering all my wifes questions regarding safety, operation, etc. After the 10 day holding period, we went back in to pick up the rifle. Justin was working the counter and immediately recognized us and got an attitude with us. He then walked away from the counter rudely and went and grabbed Tommy, the Manager who originally helped us. We overheard Justin say these exact words "Tommy, this one is yours, I aint releasing any guns to a woman, good luck" he then chuckled. This immediately inferiated us and Tommy came over to quickly apologize for the other Managers SEXIST and IGNORANT/ARROGANT statements and behavior. We got the gun and left. WE WILL BE CALLING CORPORATE TO REPORT THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR AND WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT THIS STORE LOCATION! WE WILL BE SURE TO LET EVERYONE KNOW THE KIND OF TREATEMENT WOMEN WILL RECEIVE BY THIS JERK.. Excellent customer service! First, Candice is extremely nice and very patient. She took the time to answer all of my son's questions about EVERY fire arm in the store. Tommy is also excellent. Not only does he provide excellent customer service but he truly follows up and is a man of his word. I asked him to transfer two pairs of shoes in from another store and he took care of it right away. Then I asked him to call me when an out-of-stock item came in and he did the same day it arrived. In search of equipment for my son's first little league baseball season I went to five different sporting good stores over the past week to search for the best price of all the equipment we needed. After finding what we were looking for we went to visit my mother in Temecula who informed me of a Big 5 near her with great prices where we could pick up any last minute things we needed. As soon as we entered we were greeted by Nick. A salesman that provided the best customer service I've experienced not just at the sporting goods stores I went to but any store in general. He didn't just point us in the right direction he accompanied us for as long as it took to ensure we had the proper satisfaction with our purchase. He showed the utmost professionalism and knowledge on the subject. Being new to sports especially baseball he provided us with very useful information we wouldn't have otherwise known. After spending a great deal of time with us not only did we leave there with everything that we had already purchased but some of it actually ended up costing more then we initially spent. Truly exceptional customer service and an excellent selection of merchandise made us more than willing to spend the money we did. Living in Fallbrook it is a bit of a drive however when the next season comes and we are in need I am more than willing to make the drive. I will be sure to ask for Nick.
