We came here this evening to return a tent we had purchased last week. The staff here was super accommodating. We ended up buying a pair of skates, pads, and a helmet for my daughter. Mason was so quick to assist us in finding the right size. His customer service was excellent. Erika at the register was also very friendly. I was in the store today and over heard an employee screaming at a customer. I walked around to see what was going on and they had a child cleaning their window claiming he had dirtied it ! I was appalled. And then to see this employee cussing and yelling at this woman was beyond me. It was so unprofessional. Well let me just advice you. If you buy something and need to return it, you better have your receipt. Only for BIG 5. Not only they are not able to track your purchase (99%) of stores in USA do it EASILY, with your debit card, but here the MANAGER and only THE MANAGER can solve it by calling customer service, and maybe they will find your transaction and give you your money back. I mean, what kind of technology do they use?? BIG 5 is time for an upgrade. It took about 45 minutes to return a canopy that I bought 3 days before and really didn't need at the end. while shopping today, i overheard an employee shouting at a family with little kids, cursing at them, SCREAMING from the back of the store to the front F*** you and your kids, you need to teach them a lesson. she cornered the little boy gave him cleaner and a rag and forced him to clean the window! instead of finding his parents she took it upon her self to scare this little boy then to go and attack the family when his mom went to ask what was going on and why she didn't come talk to her. it's so sad that not even the manager apologized after all of that happened or try to take any accountability. i hope these kids are okay after that. the manager and employee need to see serious consequences and should be fired. this is a terrible look for Big 5. read more

I am in disbelief at the way my family was treated in this establishment today. My 10 year-old son was accused of spitting on a window and instead of the employees notifying his father or grandmother who were present they decided to take matters into their own hands and intimidate my son and force him to clean their windows. When my mother-in-law realized what was going on, the staff attacked her and screamed at her and my family for five minutes. My mother-in-law was called names, spoken down to, curst at and humiliated. The employee, "Denise or Tenise Williams" screamed "f*** you and your kid" called my child and mother in law nasty and other insulting words. The manager JOSIE stood by and did nothing, other than demand that my husband stops recording. My children were terrified. I am happy to share the full 3 minute long video and share details with any corporate official that would like me to send it their way. I am demanding immediate and serious action! Been coming to this Big 5 for years. Walked in today to buy a fishing license. Salesperson Geovanie looks at me and says, what's up. I looked back and said, what's up! Proceeded to checkout and he asked me, "what do you want?". I said I need a fishing license. He said, "you'll have to wait for the next available cashier". I'm thinking to myself, "no kidding." The cashier I'm waiting on is dealing with a lady who is paying with rolls of quarters. She looks at Geovanie and asked him, "do we accept this kind of payment?" He tells her yes they do. She then proceeds to put the rolls away and he tells her she must count them all. At this point she needs help and tells him to attend to me. He proceeds to ask me what do I need. My reply A FISHING LICENSE!! Another customer walks in and politely asks for ear plugs. He points towards the fishing gear and disregards the guy. He asks if I have ever had a fishing license. Yes. How long ago? A longtime ago. ID please. I give him my ID. Is address the same? Not sure, what's the address on there? IS ADDRESS THE SAME? If it starts with 686 then yes it's the same. Tosses my ID towards me. Doesn't even have the decency to hand it to me as I did to him. There's more to his behavior than this. From the start he had a terrible attitude. I frequent this Big 5 quite a bit, (mostly because it's close to home, and next to my primary "beer spot"). And, while it is a bit on the "smallish" side when it comes to overall store size, it still seems to provide a decent selection of the type of crap that I'm typically in the market for. Athletic / running shoes - check! Golf gear & equipment - check! Camping equipment / supplies - check! Darts and accessories - check! Ammo, (usually... and I must stress, usually...) - check! Fishing licenses - check!!! Works for me... Customer service may be a tad lacking at times and most employees in general seem a bit aloof, but other than that, it's a pretty decent store. Hot Tip... ALWAYS check the mailers and / or online ads as they can save you quite a few bucks at times!!! read more

This location can be kinda sketchy. I've been asked for change (many times), and once saw a guy banging on the window after closing, saying he needed a gun for protection. WTF? If you can get past all that, the location has an OK selection of athletic equipment, and yes, guns. I recently came for some ski equipment and they had a 'few' of the brands I expected to find, and the prices were fair. If you are looking for a large selection of something, you will NOT find it here, but what they do have is usually a good value. After my little monster chewed my good running shoes, I was in great need of a nice pair. I usually shop at the location in Glendale or the one in Culver city but since I needed shoes asap, I decided to give this Big 5 a try. I headed to this store and parking was a breeze, unlike the Culver City location. I found a nice pair of New Balance. I liked two other shoes but they didn't have small sizes. I am a little person with small feet, so finding good shoes in my size be can be a challenge. They checked for me if another location had those particular shoes, but no luck. The guy that helped me was very helpful. The cashiers were pleasant and really tried to check if other stores had my size. Great customer service, easy parking, and clean. The only reason why I am not giving it 5 stars is because is smaller than the other locations, and the selection isn't as great as the ones I am used to. I do recommend this store. read more

Very cluttered for being a Big 5 it isn't all that Big. The store doesn't have many options for beach stuff. I was looking for a nice beach chair and the only had a couple options. Best Big 5 I have ever been to. I went in a few days ago to buy running shoes and had no idea what was perfect for me (cause I have such a small foot). I came across employee Daniel C, who was actually the manager trainee at this location. He helped find a really nice shoe at a really affordable price for myself. What I liked most was his smile and his patience despite the many questions I had asked him about the shoe. This is a pretty good Big 5, except that it's a bit small and the parking lot that it shares with Rite Aid and a couple of other small businesses is always crowded. Also, this location requires you to show your ID and get fingerprinted for any ammunition purchases which is NOT required by state law, as the Big 5s down the hill in Torrance do not do this. Just another example of Commiefornia inconveniencing law abiding citizens and wiping its ass with the Constitution. Oh well, I buy my ammo for much less online anyways. read more
