I came in specifically to buy a new rod and reel setup. As someone brand new to fishing, I was looking for a bit of guidance on what to get. Unfortunately, despite there being four employees at the front register when I walked in, I wasn't greeted or even acknowledged. Which I dont really care for a fake hello, but just thought I should mention. I spent about 15 minutes browsing the reels, hoping someone would offer a hand as I was standing 10 ft from them, but the staff stayed behind the counter the entire time. They seemed more interested in complaining loudly to each other about their hours and lack of corporate support than helping customers. I ended up leaving without buying anything. I now understand why other locations might be getting more support, they probably prioritize the customer experience. read more

Dont bother calling as they will put you on hold and never pick up. I called to see if they had a product in stock, immediately got put on hold, then about 5 mins later when I arrived at the store, I decided to stay on hold to see if they'd pick up. Walking around, seeing two employees doing nothing, I grabbed my stuff and left. Stayed on hold for 15 mins more, before I gave up and hung up. Not sure if I'm going back to this place. Only reason I gave two stars is for the person who helped right when I got in the store. just don't call. read more

Was told by employee to come in to store if I wanted to price match a kayak being sold for less by manufacturer just to drive all the way here and be told that if the kayak gets here after the sale ends they won't price match lol... mind you I intended to pay for kayak in full on the spot to price match. Please do not go to the Long Beach store everything is overprice and everything you may need they do not have in stock or offer to get it for you from the warehouse and when it comes it's not what you wanted. I just bought a boat and wondered in to west marine. Wiliamena meant me at the front and showed me all around. Super friendly and informative. I ended up purchasing some good stuff from her, and she signed me up for a gold membership on the spot. I have been in many times since and her and Tina have helped me with everything from flares, to Tachometers for my boat. West Marine should be very happy to have such a great crew in San Pedro. I go to the San Pedro West Marine location often and have made many, many purchases there over the years. There's this manager there, I believe his name is Aaron. He has a very nasty attitude and treats his staff very condescendingly. Aaron is not friendly and greatly needs an attitude adjustment. I hope his upper management will sense the same and give him cause to be more helpful. He definitely needs the help. read more

Ahh... what can you say its west marine. Way overpriced for everything, staff typically does not know much at this location and could sure work on greeting customers when they walk in. Often times they are out of what you came there for but overall ok in a pinch to get misc hardware or look at products you can then go on amazon and buy for half the price. read more

A week ago I bought 2 Taylor Made boat bumper guards, air filled. They shredded within one week. I took them back today, with the proper receipt, and was told the "guarantee" could not be honored because the rip was not along the seam....When I bought them, the salesperson told me that Taylor Made had an excellent guarantee...They did not last a week...I asked why West Marine sold products that fell apart in one week? No answer....I will never shop in a West Marine ever again....poor product, poor guarantee, poor service...Horrible times 10,000!! read more

Avoid Pedro! I love West Marine and wished they kept the one in Huntington Beach. I've been to Long Beach and it's OK, but the best location is on Lido in Newport. Anyhow, stopped in to the Pedro store for the first time today. Ugh! SLOW as molasses at the checkout and customer service was marginal - just like pretty much everything else in the neighborhood. Had a really disappointing customer service...or should I say "no customer service" experience. Had called prior to visiting the store to inquire about some boat paint and primer. After being assured the product was available, we went to the location. When my wife and I arrived in the store, we were not greeted, though there were more employees visible than customers. After looking for the paint, I approached a young male employee who was affable, but not terribly knowledgeable on the subject. I asked if the person with whom I had spoken on the phone was available. He stated he would check. He left and returned shortly indicating the man to whom I had spoken would be out soon. We wandered the store for another 20 minutes, and not only did the gentlemen for whom we were waiting never come out, none of the other 4-6 employees visible in the store offered us any assistance... though at least three of them made direct eye contact with me. After about 30 total minutes, we decided to leave. I could speculate that the level of my melanin content was a factor in their ambivalence, but that would be speculation. What I can say is that, though they were not rude, they were clearly apathetic! I will never darken their threshold again! No pun intended! read more

L-A-M-E. Customer service is terrible. Placed an in-store order and paid for it. When I went to pick up order, I ended up waiting 40 minutes to find out most of my order was missing and they were unable to order another one. I placed the order online and they said they would notify me when I got there a month past and I called and they said oh yes we have already received it let her know that I haven't got a notification about him do you know when they came in he couldn't tell me and so I let it go. So when I had a chance to go pick them up they were some rain pants xxl. I'm kind of a big guy but I tried on some pants previously before ordering and they fit right. So the day that I came in they were telling me that they put him out because it took so long we tried calling you I guess they had the wrong number but they found him one of the large gentleman that was working there asked what size are they I told him he replied good luck while he was patting his belly I didn't say anything but I did take offense to it so I went to go try am on afterwards they fit just right afterwards he told me no luck I replied yes they fit just right. And on top of that I was waiting in line in for about five minutes with no one there because apparently they were busy all three of them. My hubby and I always stop by this place if we need something since its on the way to dock are boat. Every ones friendly and I get to bring my dog in the store with me, they even offered him a dog treat! They have a wide range of things, kinda pricey but its faster and easier then finding it on the web and waiting for it to be delivered. 2 thumbs up for being pet friendly! read more
