It has been a while since I went to Big 5 but so glad I did! I was recently searching for a specific item and needed it faster than online retailers could deliver. Big 5 saved me! Not only was it cheaper at Big 5 but they were helpful and I was happy to support a local in-person business rather than Amazon or another online retailer. I think I got a better quality item at Big 5 for approximately 60% of what it cost through Amazon so I was very pleased! Not only did they have sporting goods stuff but also shoes, slippers, clothing, pool toys, and even some little plushie toys. I've become too accustomed to ordering stuff online but this was a nice reminder of the importance and convenience of having local brick & mortar stores too! read more

The female employee addressed me and asked if she could help. She directed me to the area I was looking for. She was polite when she rang me up. I got a great sale price on the item I purchased. The store has many items and seems well organized. My only complaint would be the item wasn't marked as being on sale. I'm happy about it, but would've appreciated knowing the price before I arrived to the register. read more

We had a surprisingly good experience recently at this Big 5 location! We got greeted as soon as we walked in by the sales representatives at the counter, who were smiling and offering their help. The selection varies of items they have in stock. The weekly and sometimes daily sales are what being us back for more. From this last pleasant experience, we'd recommend shopping here! read more

I'll give Big 5 four stars on value. It doesn't have the widest selection of inventory or brands like The Sports Authority, but generally there are very good sales here. The "Outdoor Products" brand they carry is just as good as most premium brands. I was recently looking for a new day pack and found an Outdoor Products model that had all the features I was looking for on sale for $29 - a good $60 less than comparable models at REI or Summit Hut. I've bought numerous fleece jackets here over the years with great features also in the $29 range. The staff is generally friendly and helpful, but not always knowledgeable, so do your research before going in. TIP: Check the store often, because sales come and go quickly, as does inventory. Out of curiosity, why do the guys who work here wear ties? It's a sporting goods store, for goodness sakes, they should be dressed casually, like in golf shirts and khakis. read more

Never argue with a pregnant woman. I recently made a weekend trip to Tucson to spend some time with friends and family. One of the highlights of the weekend was spending some time with my best friend, who is currently with child. Thanks to my friend I'm learning a lot more about pregnancy than I ever wanted to. I'm sure that each woman reacts to the changes in her body in a different way. This particular woman has developed a powerful urge to hit things. In the interest of personal safety, when she expressed a desire for a heavy bag I enthusiastically agreed to help her get one. What followed was a frustrating trek through the seedy underbelly of the Tucson Sporting Goods scene. Many a store was tried, with the necessary item either out of stock, overpriced or not carried. With each failure I could see the rage grow. I was afraid. Out of sheer desperation, a half hour before they closed, we finally went to Big 5. There, bathed in light from heaven, was the heavy bag. The salesperson that helped us must have sensed our urgency because in no time at all the item was rung up (on sale!) and loaded into the truck. Big 5 has great customer service, a well rounded selection of items and decent prices. Also, they kept me from getting beat up by a pregnant woman. Shop there. read more

I bought a ping pong table here a while back. The table was on sale which was great and it's held up really well considering how rough I am with it. The only thing I notice while I was here and at other Big 5 locations is that the staff generally isn't any help. For example, when I bought the ping pong table I had to convince the staff that the sale was real, haul the table out from the back, and move various close racks to make room. The only thing the staff did was ring me up at the register... So you might find a good deal here but don't expect the staff to do anything but ring you up! read more

I bought Skechers tennis shoes I didn't realize until after I wore them once that they hurt my feet and I took out the extra inner soles and found out they were used tennis shoes for $69 I return them to BIG 5 they said NO RETURNS at all NO CREDIT! so I would NEVER GO THERE AGAIN .they should have checked the merchandise they were selling . read more

I'll admit it, I'm cheap, especially when it comes to clothes, doubly so when it comes to shoes. As it turns out, though, cheap shoes can seriously mess up your back, and physical therapy is expensive and makes me a sad panda. Cue the awesomeness of Big 5! They have lots of fancy sneakers with expensive-looking logos and more design features than my first car, and amazingly, I didn't have to sign over my first-born child for a pair of name-brand running shoes. Sure, they won't do my taxes or keep up with the laundry for me, but they're sufficiently advanced in the engineering department that they'll keep my feet from wobbling around and screwing up my back any further. My shoes were $30 off (ka-CHING!), but there were lots of other good sales and plenty of others at at least a 50% discount. Maybe if these help my poor aching SI joint, I'll start buying shoes here instead of K-Mart! read more

Horrible staff and service. I went in asking for a one day deal showed them the coupon and they led me to another item. When I found the corrrect item and asked if it was the same she said it was not. Went to another store found the same shirt and it was at the one day deal. Staff needs to get retrained. This happens often. read more

I have been buying my walking shoes at Big 5 for quite a while. I went to the Speedway location because I had done some business in that part of town that morning. I had my dog with me. The salesgirl in shoes was VERY snippy with me when she asked me if I had asked the manager for permission to bring my dog in. I had the shoe I wanted in my hand, so I gave it to her and asked her if she could please bring me a pair in my size. She went to the back and paged the manager who came over and told me I could not have my dog in the store. I asked why and he gave me a song and dance about it being store policy, blah, blah, blah. I tried to be nice when I explained to him that I take her everywhere I go and the only place that did not make her welcome was Goodwill and I no longer shop there. (He never ONCE asked if she was a service dog. She isn't and I would not have tried to pass her off as one, but...still....) He was not willing to entertain the notion of a dog in his store. I refrained from telling him I thought he needed a sign on the door that says "Your dog is not welcome here." I left, called the store on North Stone to make sure it was okay to bring my dog and they said, "Why not?" PRECISELY my question!! So. The Speedway store will never see us again. The North Stone store will get all of my business from now on. read more

This establishment gets a 1-star because it's as low as the ratings go... I purchased ammo here yesterday and was given the wrong caliber by the sales clerk (I failed to check what I was given before leaving the store, as I assumed, incorrectly, they knew what they were doing). Upon a return home, I discovered instead of .357 Sig, I was given.357 Mag, which is completely different! As it was late and I was tired after working almost 11 hours, I planned on exchanging it for the correct caliber the next day. After carefully checking the receipt for return/exchange policy on ammmo and finding no prohibitions, I confidently returned today to exchange the incorrect for the correct. I spoke with the "assistant manager," who stated they cannot/will not accept returns/exchanges on ammo, despite it being their fault. I asked to speak with the "Manager," but the "assistant manager" said he was "the Manager..." He attempted an insincere "apology," and even though said ammo had the original sales receipt, was obviously un-opened AND in the Big 5 bag I'd been given, he steadfastly REFUSED to take the ammmo, walk 5' to pick correct ammo off the shelf and put the incorrect ammo on the shelf. My husband wanted an electronic dartboard for Father's Day. We found one at a great price at Big 5. He opened the box and it had obviously been returned to the store and put back on the shelf. Half of what should have been there was missing. Instead, we found opened, empty plastic bags. On Father's Day, my husband had to return one of his presents. He told them what had happened, picked out a different dartboard and opened it to make sure everything was there. When he got home, we noticed that on the receipt it said, "Returned gift, didn't like". I am afraid that the first dartboard was put back on the shelf, yet again. If you shop here, open anything you buy that is boxed and make sure it's intact before you leave the store. This incident nearly ruined Father's Day for my husband. There wasn't any apology from the customer service employee either. Bad experience, all around. read more

I have been searching for rollerblades and though Big 5 wouldn't be a bad place to get some. After finding someone helpful in the store over the phone, he said he would put a pair on hold. When I arrived in the store I waited for 10 minutes only to find out they were not. The salesman in the store thought I meant roller skates and then thought it was a kids product. They did not listen and then when they finally did point me to the rollerblades they offered me no assistance at all. I will not be returning to this store. read more

Just your basic, cheap sprting goods store. Always something to look at. Great hunting and fishing section. My man needed new sunglasses and he swears by this brand at Big 5. He also bought some cool shoes. We were the only customers for an hour. read more

Sunday 3/13/2016 3:30 PM WOW !!!!!! When I walked in the store I was greeted and welcomed to store by cashier and asked if she could help me with anything. I told her I wanted to buy new binoculars and she called up help at the gun counter and directed me there. Clerk came and helped me and was very plesant. Paid for my purchase and was done in know time. Very plesant experience and different clerks in the store than 3/07/2016. Clerks attitude make a huge difference in retail. read more

My son is playing T-ball for the first time. I took him to Big 5 Sporting Goods to get a glove, pants, and cleats. I never played baseball and this is his first time, so I have no idea how things should fit, what sizes he needs, etc. Turns out, no one at Big 5 knows either. They literally told me they know nothing about baseball. Don't go there if you need help figuring out what to buy. They are clueless. read more

I was in the store today 5/7/2017 and asked for Skechers Men's after burn memory. I told the young kid with a purple dress shirt and tie what I wanted and my size 9D. He could not find any up front but did bring two from the back. One size 9 regular width and one size 9 2E width. I picked out a pair of ankle socks to but because I came in flip flops to try on the shoes. The kid those (socks) are the cheapest). I tried on both shoe sizes. One was a little loose and the other a little tight. I waited for the kid to return or anyone to find out if these shoes come in width D, if yes does another store have D width in stock and to find out if they had other models in stock. No one came back. I went to the check-out and bought the socks because I agreed to buy them even if I did not buy any shoes. The socks were $15.00. I bought them and told the person I will never come back. read more
