I bought a used ez curl bar here last month for the small garage gym I'm assembling . I tried to use it last week and found the normal stop Collars would not fit. The ends were not a standard 2 inch. So I came back yesterday to find a solution. He asked me to trade in the Bar in question , gave me a 60 pct credit on original purchase price , I bought another used curl bar with a military Discount with the stops included. So a better bar , complete for Less net $$ than new collars on EBay. And I could make sure it all fit. He said he would deal with the other bar and figure out a way to make it right later on. So many different sports supported here! We come to the Play It Again on Speedway for all my kids' various activities. They grow out of equipment so fast that it's great to get less expensive used gear. The staff is so helpful, especially Chris. He always finds just what we need, and the kids have been inspired to try out new sports too. I don't worry about buying the extra stuff that they find there because it's so reasonable. We even found a bike for a friend who was wanting to learn but her family couldn't afford one. The best part is that we can also bring in the stuff that didn't really get used or damaged and get store credit or cash. Play It Again on Speedway was an incredible find! They have lots of hiking equipment (packs, sleeping bags, etc.) to start off New Year's resolutions right. Chris was really helpful and knowledge not only about the stuff in the store, but also about what else might work for specific needs. Their prices are great compared to the big retail stores, and I really appreciated the assistance getting just what I needed. While chatting, I also learned that they've helped get several seniors in my mother's retirement community get set up with in-home equipment for those who couldn't go out for physical therapy. You can probably fine what you're looking for if it's a common sport, to include bicycles and weights. The store is organized by category but you'll have to dig through stuff to find the right "something." I wouldn't say it's dirty though you can easily tell it's a secondhand sports good store. I came here at the suggestion of a friend to find some bowling gear, but it was a less than ideal experience. The store smelled terrible. I have no idea what I was smelling, and when I asked the person working here what it was, he said that he didn't know, and that it had always smelled like that. It took me a little while to find bowling gear. but when I did, I found the stock lacking. Bowling gear is apparently not something that you can find easily, which is not the fault of the staff here. However what they had in stock was old and terrible looking. I didn't check for the price, but would not have even paid a dollar for them, since it looked like they had been in there for many years. Other than that, it was well stocked with equipment, and the customer service there was decent. The selection of bikes was also pretty good, though it looked like some of them were too expensive given that they were unclean and in need of maintenance. read more

I called this store selling my treadmill. I spoke to Chris the owner who was great. He knew his stuff about the treadmill and gave me a more than fair price. The store is family run and have a huge selection of sporting goods. I didn't notice any smell in the store and I was able to look freely without any pressure of buying anything. Probably the weirdest experience I have ever had in a sporting goods store, possibly the weirdest of any retail store. Me, walking in to search for a snorkel mask at the same time as an older couple who proceed to immediately call for the manager before even looking around the store. He wants a bike, but, he explains in his thick Eastern Block accent, the seats are uncomfortable and there are no bikes that allow you to sit. The manager points out about 6 bikes in the middle of the room, that are just that, recumbent bikes. The old man is not satisfied with this and wants to argue some more. He has only been in the store about 45 seconds and has not even looked at a single bike! Every time his wife tries to speak he raises his voice and speaks to her in Ukrainian or some such until she is quiet. In the meantime, I busy myself looking at snorkel masks because that is what I am there for. I am confused by the mask situation because it seems as though some of them are prescriptions?!?! WTF. And I can tell it is going to be a long time before I get any service as the old man is still railing on the return policy and cuts both his wife and the manager off before they can get a single word in. My frustration mounts as I notice the prices for these masks are about the same as the price at Sports Authority for a brand new mask! Even though the masks Play it Again are selling are covered in sand, half are broken, most are smelly, and some appear to be prescription! After nearly 10 minutes of confusion I am about to leave and finally another customer service guy appears and I tell him that this selection is quite frankly gross, broken, or just useless. He picks up a mask, puts it to his eyes and says "whoa, this would give you a headache." Yeah, because it is prescription!!! He tells me the snorkel masks are half off. Well, fine. I select one and get out before this experience could get any weirder. read more

Their used Equipment is priced just under retail regardless of the equipments condition. I have gone to multiple locations for items ranging from weightlifting equipment to bicycles and camping gear, I have often found damage to the items, even a bike with faulty breaks ( they denied the breaks were broken until a full demonstration) and then said the bike was priced accordingly, taking into account the brakes were not working. If the staff was a little less arrogant it would help, but the staff is not knowledgeable about what they carry and what items cost new, but are quick to raise their voice and argue. If you are selling to them they will give you next to nothing, it is about markup - They do not have a lot of competition so I assume that's how they stay in business, I am finding that Amazon, bookmens have more for less, with better service. read more

I'm surprised by the number of one- and two-star reviews for this place. It seems, though, that many of those reviewers were complaining about their trade experiences. I have only been there as a buyer, so this review should be taken for what it's worth. Having been there numerous times, I can't say that I've ever had a bad experience. Everyone has been friendly to me. I will agree with others that I've often gone in there expecting lower prices for used goods. But I've also been to Bookmans Sports Exchange, which is several minutes to the west of them, and if anyone's prices are out of line, it's Bookmans'. Between the two, Play It Again generally charges less--never by a wide margin, but enough to make a visit worthwhile. Depending on what you're shopping for, Play It Again either has a better or worse selection than Bookmans Sports Exchange. If weight training or competitive sports are your thing, you will likely have better luck at Play It Again Sports. For bicycling and cardio the selection is about the same. For camping and other outdoorsy stuff, go to Bookmans Sports Exchange; Play It Again has next to nothing in that department. Finally, go to Bookmans if you want something weird like juggling equipment or darts. Chances are, they'll have it. read more

Went into Play it Again Sports for the first time on Speedway and Swan. I will be honest after reading the reviews on this store I didn't expect much. I was pleasantly surprised. I was greeted right away by friendly staff and lead to what I was looking for. The pricing was great! I made my purchase while trading in the equipment I brought. I was given a very good price on trade. This store is huge with tons of used equipment! I visited this store today after going to the Bookmans sports exchange down the street. They have parking right on the street and more on the side. The store is a bit old but once you step inside WOW talk about a sea of used equipment. I was helped right away by a very knowledgeable sales person. I found a great deal and they held it at the counter while I shopped around for some camping gear. I wanted to see a tent and the sales person set it up right I front of me. Hm. I was really excited to stop by here with my boyfriend since I recently got back into working on my fitness and needed some weights and a jump rope! The store seemed well stocked with new and use equipment of all sorts. I quickly found what I needed and headed to the register. The man who checked me out was quite nice (seemed to be the owner), but there were 3-4 other 'employees' walking around during my visit just completely ignoring me! It made me super uncomfortable and even my boyfriend noticed how odd the other employees were? Are they not there to answer questions or help? I bought a soccer ball here for $20 with no labeling or packaging except for the price sticker. It was very heavy, perhaps an indoor soccer ball.. not what I needed, so I took it back to the store within the 30 day return policy. and the guy would not let me return it. he was trying to SELL me another ball. Play It Again has a fine concept, but used sporting goods should be discounted more deeply. Charging $30 for a used Thermarest isn't exactly putting it to the Man. I wish I could give 0 stars. I go in to buy my son a coach for coaches pitch baseball and explain to the sales guy they play with hard balls not with the soft balls used for t-ball. The sales person ensured me the NEW IN PACKAGED bat was for baseball. First at bat with the new bat there is a huge dent. I take the bat back that is now only a week old and am told that their are no refunds. While i understand that makes a ton of sense on used equipment not on something new. What bothers me the most is even though the bat comes with a 1 year manufacturer warranty it wont do me any good because they are going to resend me another T-ball bat. Coming in to a place like this my expectations are pretty low to begin with. But what I'm assuming is the supervisor brought that down to an amazingly lower expectation than I could imagine. After having my stuff checked out one of the employees came up to me to say they'd give me x amount in cash. I replied and said ok, so she told me to head over to the desk where I'd be taken care of. Standing at the desk the "supervisor" was ringing some folks out so I waited quietly. Once the last person leaves he turns to me without saying anything and try's to hand me some cash. I ask him if I could do store credit and he replies "it's too late, I've already bought the stuff from you". I politely replied telling him he couldn't have possibly bought anything if I don't have any cash in my hand. He then clearly got defensive and proceeded to tell me he already put the items in his system and he couldn't take them out. Then gave me in these words "take the cash, or take your stuff". Finding that I didn't have time to argue with this man and that I would never be coming back, I took the cash and left. Note that at no point in time did I change the tone of my voice or raise it. Here's a couple of notes to the owners when deciding who to have represent your business: -At least try to judge an employees intelligence: Store credit would have obviously been far smarter for him to give me. It would have kept cash in the drawer and brought me back into the store. -Had he truly been "unable to take them out of the system" how could he tell me to take the stuff or take the cash? -It was quite clear this employee was simply too lazy to redo the transaction. (Which he conducted without my final approval) Even the slightest bit of customer service would have been appreciated from this gentleman. -I understand this is a used sporting good store, I'm not expecting five star service, frankly all I'm expecting is someone to run the register and say thank you, use this to your advantage, the only way you have to go for customer expectations is up. It's rather unfortunate to cross a long time local business off of my consideration set. read more

I go into two different Play It Again Sports in town--the location on Oracle, which is far away from me, and the one on Speedway that I could practically walk to. Unfortunately, the one on Speedway is horrible. And it's not the prices or equipment that make it so. The older gentleman who is always in there (owner?) is non-stop rude. No matter what you ask, no matter what you say. He is rude. I don't get it. I've stopped using this one and go and buy my used sporting good from the Oracle location as they are helpful and polite. read more

They knew exactly what I needed and got it right away for me, they even assembled it for me!
