A new food truck that just opened in time for this year's cruise season, Alaskan Bear Bread offers 3 different choices, the OG polar bear with just powdered sugar, the cinnamon sugar Grizzly Bear, and the Chili Bear topped with beef chili. For me, it was the OG that I was looking for as simple is often the best. For those who have never had fried bread, it is similar to a beignet but not as hollow. With it so close to the cruise port, gotta try this specialty.

But the halibut and chips (got onion rings instead) were stupendous, just out of this world good! Huge chunks of halibut, looking like fritters. But oh so good, and a great value for the amount of fish you get. For breakfast, standard fare is good - my wife had 2 eggs over medium, hash browns and a biscuit, and I had 3 eggs over easy, hash browns, rye toast, and link sausages. Both were great. And then there are the people - so nice, so involved with their customers. They've been there for a long time, and they know how to run a great business. If you do nothing else, get the halibut and chips. Sadly, my substantial tip (which appeared on my credit card slip) did not get entered into their machine after breakfast - they lost out on a big tip (or perhaps chose not to enter it?).

The store is very close to the cruise ship terminal, in fact we could see it from deck. The folks inside the store were very helpful, with plenty of samples and advice about what may fit our tastes. Ended up buying smoked salmon and halibut but they were out of the legendary smoked cod. I asked them about fresh salmon to be shipped home and they told us about their shipping program. When we returned home From our cruise, I gave them a call and ordered 10 pounds of fresh sockeye salmon. Unfortunately, due to Fed Ex dropping the ball, most of the salmon was partially thawed when it arrived. I called Jon at Dejon Delights and he immediately contacted Fed Ex then called me back. Even though Fed Ex refused to help out, Jon didn't hesitate to make it right for us. He shipped a nice assortment of smoked salmon and cod worth more than the original salmon shipment. Jon gave me great customer service, and has communicated very clearly with me. I feel he has gone above and beyond to make me happy. The fish products that we purchased in the store and the replacement fish have been excellent. I will buy more smoked fish from him again soon. My biggest criticism is that there are signs that say there's no WiFi, however, in a town with limited phone service, this restaurant has a QR code linking to the website and a QR code to rate it on Google, but not good enough service to connect. If you're gonna ask to connect to the website or rate the restaurant, make it possible.

The brewer who did our tour was super enthusiastic and fun to hang out with. He made sure our glasses were topped off and gave a great talk about the workings of the brewery and his passion for beer. We got to try three 8-oz samples and a full pint, all included with the tour. The beer was good and the root beer was great. I highly recommend that you make sure to try the root beer and the coffee stout; they were the most delicious. The lighter beers were good too, but not as flavorful. The tour was too short, though. Our day in Skagway was quite long, and this only filled part of the afternoon. And it could easily have been longer, too, since getting people to chug four glasses of beer in less than an hour really rushes the experience. The bus company that took us to and from the brewery was also very good. The drivers talked extensively about the town and its history, even fielding impromptu questions.
