Do yourself a favor, spend the time looking and go elsewhere, even if it's only Chili's just down the street. I should have known better, I have eaten here many times before when I lived here '03 to '08). Big Al's is just the same. The prices are high, the service is low and the taste is boring. On a Sunday in early September, we had the (overpriced) seafood platter, it all tasted the same and not good (small, chewy oysters, over breaded shrimp, cold fries). We didn't even finish it, we decide to go somewhere better in a couple hours & eat again. Also, we called ahead to confirm they had boiled crabs, when we arrived 20 minutes later, they did not nor had they planned on having any that day. So went eat there Friday night around 9pm and the service sucked, the hostess was playing on her phone and didn't notice us until a waitress got her attention and she didnt greet us or tell us to follow her or anything and then our waitress took about 10 minutes to come get our drink orders. We ordered boiled crawfish with potatoes and sausage when we ordered our drinks. Figured she might not come back for a while. The only thing that saved it was the taste of the food. That was awesome. But $7.40/lb. for tiny (and that is not an exaggeration) crawfish? That's too much. Yes I know it's not fully crawfish season yet but that's a stretch considering how small they were. Had a few decent sized but some were literally the size of a quarter or smaller. read more

I live out of town so I had not been here since they moved from their old location years ago. I was so happy to find a hotel near the restaurant so I could be sure to visit since I had not been to Houma in awhile. My server was Kieran. When I asked about how various vegetables are prepared and how spicy they are, she was knowledgeable and her answers turned out to have dead on accuracy. The fried shrimp was absolutely delicious. I like a little lemon and tarter sauce. Their tarter sauce was very tasty and very fresh. Not watery or runny at all. The red potatoes were equally delicious. Some restaurants make them so spicy hot they are not edible. These are mild tasting, and if you like them super spicy hot, just add some hot sauce. After I finished eating, I noticed a section near me being cleaned. The people cleaning went to great care to remove the cushions, clean both sides (top and bottom), and everything else thoroughly. This makes me feel good about the kitchen when how clean they keep the rest of the restaurant. It's nice to see employees take such pride in the way they serve and clean, not to mention prepare the food. They also have nice looking T-shirts. I still have the one I bought years ago, but I bought 2 more tonight. Shirts are not cheap, but great quality and very nice design. So overall, great service, reasonably price delicious food, in a very clean restaurant. I highly recommend giving it a try. read more

i would like to say I flew in from Indiana just to dine at Big Al's Not! As a matter of fact I came to Houma La to work at Terrebonne hospital. The locals there strongly recommended Big Al's and the boiled dinner. I found the place to be interesting to say the least, arriving a 6:30pm on a tuesday I expected to have to wait as the parking was filled . This was not the case. My server Kamren was wonderful. I asked about the boiled dinner and she was thorough and polite Oh that southern hospitality. As I have never had soft crab or crawfish she offered me a sample of crawfish and even demonstrated the proper techniques of pealing crawfish so as to eat. I can only hope this was not candid camera, what a site it must of been. My dinner arrived and I was proficient With The crab or so I thought! ROFL is almost what Kamren did when she saw my crab yes I removed the meat from claws, as Kamren pointed out I left the best part, I was given a crash course in eating soft crab and Oh my goodness it all was delicious. And there is a lot of meat. WOW. Defiantly recommend this place. read more

It took me awhile to order something since nothing on the menu sounded appealing so I opted for the roast beef sandwich. I travel a lot with my business and have for 30 years. I love trying new places. I'm Cajun and I know what good Cajun food is. I loved our waitress. She was sweet and when I and my brothers two bowls of seafoodless gumbo came out with nothing but rice and juice, she was nice enough to bring each of us a little bowl of more juice with a few bait shrimp in it. We ordered the shrimp fettuccine with crab cake, burnt oysters on the blackened/burnt half shell, fried gator and salad. Went to an estate sale in Houma and ate here afterwards. It was good! Fresh seafood. We started off with some raw oysters. They were really cold, on ice, and perfectly briny. We also had some boiled shrimp. The boil was really good. The fried seafood was exactly like what you'd expect. I liked everything I had here. Service was a bit lackluster...nothing disastrous happened but we did need refills for a while. I wanna go back during crawfish season. read more
